i got my packet today and I interviewed on the eight...it says the $1000 deposit is due on January 27th (which is exactly two weeks after I got the acceptance email) but I'm going to try to get an extension

u sure? can someone who recieved the pkg confirm? (still waiting on mine)...ugh

if u interviewed jan 7/8 and have the acceptance pkg can u post the date listed on the letter (it's two weeks to reply from that date correct?)

Yeah I'm sure I was accepted in December. I got my package about a week after the acceptance date.

I sent out my deposit today! Here I come Jefferson class of 2015!

Is anyone planning to bring a car? I can't find permanent parking 🙁

P3 here - I would advise against bringing a car unless you're living in the suburbs... if you're in center city, parking is expensive and not necessary. Everyone uses public transport or walk... and if you really need to drive somewhere, some people use zipcar or phillycarshare.

Thanks. What's zipcar? I live by myself and I wouldn't know what to do with my car if I choose not to bring it. Do you know the monthly fee for parking? I'd like to get an apt or efficiency, but I'm not sure if they'll give me one since there aren't many.

We have met, and you have correctly guessed correctly. Zipcar is a car sharing service in Philadelphia similar to PhillyCarShare. If you want to bring your car with you, I would suggest living in the suburbs and commuting to the school that way. It would save you some money as you could find cheaper apartments outside of Philly than you could near the campus. Parking and living in Philadelphia can get outrageous, with parking per month going up to $250. I highly recommend the public transportation options for getting into and around the city though.

Are you looking to stay on campus? if so, check out the housing website: http://www.jefferson.edu/housing/

For Jefferson housing:
I've found many P1's living in Martin - dorm room style.... not my cup of tea
1 bedrooms are plentiful and expensive... at least 1k/month
Studios are rare and as an incoming student, its impossible. Current students get first pick of rooms so they'll most likely be taken.

There are a lot of students living off campus... even around 13 - 16th st Chestnut/Walnut area, studios go for 7 - 800/month... just do a google search or use craigslist

Living in the suburbs vs on campus really depends on what you're looking for as a student...
Adv to being on campus:
1. Better student life ...many students live on/very close to campus and hang out with each other/study together
2. I leave my apt 5-10mins before class begins (I live in Barringer) -- this is esp impt when theres severe weather (like what we've been having this year)
3. I study best in the library ...its across the street, 24hrs... esp helpful when its finals time and i'm in the lib until 3am
4. Its a university wide policy to have lunch from 12-1pm so there is no classes at this time, since I live so close, I can run home and eat lunch instead of eating out everyday.

Adv to living in the burbs:
1. Getting out of Philly haha, its a love/hate relationship with this city... can be dirty/smelly/unsafe
2. Having a car / cheaper rent / bigger rooms
3. BIG ADV: with having a car --> can go to IPPE/APPE sites that are only accessible by car -- theres only a few of these sites but its nice if you find a place you like since the majority won't be able to get there... you'd likely get that site.
4. Access to many more restaurants/shops vs being restricted to center city

Thats all I can think about at the moment... I live on campus and love the convenience of it. Especially when there is a snow storm (jefferson rarely closes the school).

Wow! Thank you ADN1226. I'd like to be friend with you 🙂
And the pros and cons between Barringer and Orlowitz?

Refer to this previous thread since things haven't changed much regarding housing... where to live... student life questions.
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=9278178&highlight=barringer#post9278178

I've always lived in barringer and prefer it from what i've seen/heard from my friends in Orlo. I have a studio so its cheaper for me to stay in Barringer than in Orlo (b/c the cheapest single occupancy is 1bedroom > 1k) But some NEW problems with both:

Barringer: elevators are unpredictable... we have 3 but sometimes only 1 will work. Its not too bad, just annoying. We actually don't have any fire alarm problems unlike Orlo.

Orlo: Lots of idiots pulling the alarms for some reason... and worst off, its usually after 2am. But this probably changes year to year... elevators are pretty bad too. Orlo is taller and will also have 1 elevators working so imagine people on 20 floors waiting for 1 elevator... (good thing is, you can always walk down the stairs haha, barringer doesn't have that... stairs lead to the fire exit)

Those are the only changes i've seen... but yes, def review the old jefferson thread, i'm sure we all had the same questions

Can anyone tell me about the financial aspect of attending Jefferson? i'm really interested in the school, and I've been accepted. It's my second choice, but I'm really scared at how much this could put me into debt. All I found on their site was some figure that was like 29k/year tuition. I was wondering if that goes down to (maybe) like 20k/year after the aid (in general)? That's not accounting for other costs like rent, food, life, etc. After 3 years of undergrad, the potential cost is really starting to scare me.

I'm still waiting for my packet 🙁

that sucks! by the time you get it the two weeks will be almost up and then you still have to mail it back?! (assuming you interviewed on the 7th or 8th). can you get an extension? good luck!

If you call them they can give you an extension for the deposit...I called today and they gave me until February 10 (originally it was January 27th)

I wish I had an extension. Karen faxed me the Enrollment Decision Form today, so I'll have to pay tomorrow. No packet yet.
Where is everyone from and is anyone planning to bring a car? Hmm...

I'm from New Jersey and I'm still deciding about the car. From what I understand parking is very expensive and having a car is not necessary. But I love my car and ideally I'd bring it with me. So we'll see.

I've been trying to find out the exact cost and location, but no luck. If you know anything, let me know.

Did they let you get an extension?

To those who have been accepted, is anybody planning on going to their financial aid workshop on February 5?

I got a mail today about the financial aid workshop on Feb 5th as well (will definitely attend!). There was no accetance information though. Does it mean that I am accepted?

Does anyone know where I can get information on the financial aid workshop on Feb 5th? Thanks

If you didn't get an acceptance email, then I would not assume that you were accepted quite yet. They would have emailed you and sent you a packet. It could mean that they are considering you though. Did you interview?

They sent out papers in the mail inviting you to the financial aid workshop.

I believe the financial aid workshop lectures are recorded...at least they were last year...
My interview was on the 22nd and it went very well. Did anybody else who interviewed receive an acceptance email?

I'm probably going to go. See what options they're offering for loans and stuff

I just got my acceptance via email at 12:25 PM central time. Check your email!!

I will let you know if I find anything out! I'm also not attending the financial aid workshop because I'm working. I called the financial aid office this morning though, I'm planning on filling out the forms asap.

Just an FYI to anyone coming to the city anytime soon .. there is a ton of snow everywhere. Give plenty, and I mean plenty, of time so that you are not late!!

Also, congrats to my new fellow classmates!! =]

Does anyone know if we still have to do Academic Update on Pharmcas if we already got accepted? or we can just send jefferson the transcripts after the Spring semester before school starts? Thanks 🙂

It was my understanding that once you are accepted and paid the deposit, you don't have to deal with PharmCAS anymore and that your transcripts should go directly to Jefferson.

Where can you find these interviews you are talking about?

hey guys...for those of you who were accepted into jefferson, do any of you know how many seats are left in the class? i know that they need to see my 2nd PCAT scores (from january) to consider me, but they can only do that if seats are still available when the scores come in. just curious if anyone knows anything, i'd love the opportunity to go to jefferson! 🙂

X2 I also would like to know approximately how many seats are left for the fall '11 class. Pharmcas is so backed up they still didn't process my application yet😡

Hey everyone,

I had my interview back on January 22nd and received my acceptance via e-mail on January 26th. I mailed out my enrollment deposit yesterday, so just wanted to say hi to everyone else admitted.

I look forward to meeting you all in the Fall.

If anyone has been accepted to this school, please let me know so you can be added to the roll call for 2014/2015. Please post in the sticky thread or PM me your acceptances and the program you will be attending (if accepted to multiple schools).🙂

Hey. Long time lurker. First time poster. Swear I'm not a rapist.

Anyways, I'm interviewing here on the 12th this Saturday and coming in on the 11th. I got a double at the Holiday Express on Walnut Street. If anyone wants to split the room cost just shoot me a message? It was $119 without tax for one night. So divide by two? Seems everything around here is super expensive because it's right in downtown.

I believe they give student discounts, especially to those going in for an interview to TJU if im not mistaken. Just show them a copy of your interview letter and they should discount it

I also called around a bunch of other closeby hotels in the area and that was the cheapest quote I could find for one night...if anyone else can find something better please post?
