if you dont mind driving to the actual location or calling a taxi, there's a place i stayed called the microtel inn thats a couple miles away from philadelphia international airport. I think it was 65 ish a night.

Hey,

Jefferson offers visitors to stay overnight or a little longer at one of their dorms for much cheaper!!! Check out their campus housing page.
 
You could stay in Lindenwold, Haddonfield, or Camden NJ and take the PATCO (train) which is about a $5 round trip. It drops you off in Center City, about 2 blocks from Jefferson

coming from the west, this was one of the only other schools i applied out of state and am considering taking back my interview after reading the reviews...any current TJ students on here? i dont know if its worth the expensive airline fee plus accomodation for an interview since this is my 2nd choice school after my in-state school (UNM)...

As a student who has lived in and attended school in Philadelphia, I can tell you that what is said on there about the area is not entirely accurate. The area of the city where Jefferson is located is perhaps one of the better areas in the city (much better than say, Temple's pharmacy program location). Yes, there will be some anomalies, but for the most part, the city is under good security and the issues mentioned in there were most likely a one-time incident.

Also, you will see those kinds of concerns come up regardless of which school you look into which is situated in the heart of a major city. The area should be the last of your concerns.

As I will be attending in the fall as a P1, I can't really vouch for the other concerns such as the financial aid office, but every time that I have been in contact with them, they have been more than accommodating and helpful.

Will the studying be difficult (as with any pharmacy school)? Yes. Will there be some kinks because the school is newer? Yes. Does that mean that you should cancel your interview based on the opinions of a few disgruntled students? Absolutely not. Jefferson has one of the best health care networks on the east coast. Don't let a few negative reviews from a handful of unhappy DPT students sway your opinion of the Pharmacy program.

After reading some of the reviews posted on that link, I'm not too sure if I made the right decision to attend the SOP...
 
Lol, I remember reading this stuff the summer before classes started, anyway most of those reviews are for the PT/Nursing programs, I've never dealt with their faculty so I have no idea whats going on there. The only pharmacy review seems to have come from a student would have preferred to cram the night before exams and expect to get an A. Never had an issue with the faculty or anyone in the office, and neither have most of the students I know...it must be a disgruntled upperclassman :meanie:

Best option (if you guys are still concerned) is to find the facebook groups for the classes of 12' 13' and 14' and ask for their input...

Hey im a P1 at jeff right now and these reviews are totally off.

First of all, theres only 3 reviews and two of them are from the PT program. The review thats about the pharm program is 2 years old so that would mean it's from the first pharmacy class jefferson started. I don't really know how things were like back then but I have never been treated rudely by any of the faculty on campus. And sure, there's alot of course work (which is to be expected) but the faculty is pretty approachable so I never really had much problem with confused about assignments and stuff.

Also, as to the complaints the other reviewers made about the city being unsafe... Jefferson is in the nicest part of philly. There are campus police and city police all over the place. It is also heavily populated which means that you probably won't get attacked because there's so many people around. That being said, it is still a major city and there is still crime and people do get mugged. But as long as your not walking around drunk in the middle of the night...you should be ok...I'm from a suburban area in cali so I was a little concerned about safety when I started school here. But so far, I haven't had any problems or know anyone who has.

But yea...I hope these reviews don't influence your decisions too much...

that is all true. thank guys. you all make a great point and those reviews don't justify anything. its really hard to tell what a school is like just from a few people and being far away makes it all that much harder! i guess i wouldnt know unless i take the leap and go for the interview!
 
I am currently not a TJU student, but I've visited school few times. I believe TJU location is much safer compare to any other cities in America.

I'm curious as well...what is the cost of attendance for TJU? Those accepted already, any ideas...
 
Tuition is 29K a year, its on par with what most private schools charge around here and about the same for "out of state" tuition for the state schools. I don't believe you will receive any financial aid since this is no longer undergrad. Rent also varies, you can do some searching and find studio apartments off campus for ~$500 a month, I believe the dormitory style housing the school offers is about the same price. The apartments on campus are a bit more pricey, ranging from 700-1000 a month depending on which kind of apartment you want. If you choose to do some apartment hunting off-campus, you can definitely find cheaper housing.

what's the class size? looking at pharmcas...not really sure
 
p3 is about 60ish
p2 is about 70ish
p1 is about 80ish

but I dont think they'll be accepting much more then 80ish people this year.
 
anyone that interviewed on Feb 12th hear anything back yet? Been a week and they say a week to hear a response so now I'm getting nervous 🙁
 
I have my interview on the 26th.. If i get in, I'm going to be extremely torn between my choices. Either stay near home and live in the city (Temple Grad so I'm pretty sick of the urban lifestyle) vs. an 8 hour drive from home but in a nice rural setting... This is going to be rough

The only advice I can give, according to the schools you applied to, is to choose a school in a location where you would prefer to work 4-6 years from now. Market is pretty crappy, especially the philly area (along with all the North East), therefore the location to where you choose to go to school will most likely be the area where you are going to be able to network, make connections, and probably intern...and eventually find a job.

Unless of course you are already interning/working as a tech somewhere already, then disregard my message.

I'm thinkin about it but I haven't decided. I don't think it's mandatory .. it's just like an opportunity to eat and meet people and tour around the school!
 
Does anyone know if the 1BD apartment at Orlowitz or Barringer come fully furnished? Or students bring their own furniture? Thanks...

Oh yeah..I interviewed on thursday, and they sent me an email on monday... Yeah.. I was really sad, cus it was my first interview.
 
Hey guys I have a question. How soon after Pharmcas mailed out your applications did you hear back from Jefferson for a interview invite?

Man I have some time then till I hear back. They finally calculated my GPA this past Thursday after a month of e-submitting. I hope it's not to late to get asked for an interview. Does anyone happen to know how many spots remain for the fall class?
 
According to the pharmcas website, they hold interviews through April, so there's still time! Don't give up hope!
 
Had my interview on Saturday and just found out via email that I was accepted today. If tuition and living expenses were cheaper, I'd probably go to TJU. I already have a big debt hovering over my head so taking out big loans isn't an option. Plus, I'm tired of the city.. (Temple grad) School definitely seems good though, and their connections are definitely a big plus.

If referring to me, University of Charleston (WV). I like the area and I feel like they have a great asset in that they are right across the river from the state capitol. From what I understand, they have a program that actually has students going over and talking to lawmakers about advocacy programs.

Tuition is cheaper, living expenses are cheaper, and hopefully the job market will be less saturated than in Philly. It sucks that it's 8 hours from home, but I truly am sick of the city and city life.
