To be very specific, on average the three Texas schools have about 900 in state applicants and will accept about 95 of those. (According to ADA Handbook). Each school interviews about 250 instate apps and accepts about 120 of those. About 20% of those accepted don't accept or go somewhere else. This makes your chances about 45%. These are averages tho.

i don't think that document is telling the truth. theres no way only 900 ppl from texas apply. furthermore, i got rejected from houston last year, and in the email, it said they had like 1300ish applicants. someone isn't telling the truth

IDK man I've seen these same stats in the ADA handbook. Take everything with a grain of salt I guess.

I think that's what @#IWantedToBeALawyer meant is that there is 900 IS applicants that apply to TX dental school. Also for Houston they said that 280 interview and they give 150 acceptances to fill their class. So their interview/acceptance rate is around 55%

Speaking of Houston, has any heard back from them since they got hit from the hurricane or are they still trying to figure out what they are doing as far as rescheduling people goes?

This sounds right. 900 IS apps then like 1200-1300 total apps. I sure hope 55% is the acceptance rate!

Does anyone know why dental schools are so notorious for dragging admissions out so long? My pre med roommate said that medical schools are very prompt with filling the entire class in December. I've just heard stories of pre dents not getting rejected until April or May and by that time they don't really have anything to improve their app with for reapplying so they're just in an awkward position possibly scrambling to get into a masters program. Wouldn't it be better to just accept waitlist or reject by the end of January?

i know what you are saying, but thats life. this whole process is nerve-wracking, and you can't do anything about it.

Oh yes it is what it is and nothing by any of us can be done to change it. I just don't see why it is that way when other programs are not. I feel like it just does a disservice to the applicants and also masters programs that the applicants may have to jump out of last second if they get a call in June to come to D school.
 
As far as an academic update is concerned when the semester comes to a close, if one does not get an acceptance super early December, will schools just camp out and wait to see your newly posted grades before they decide on you?
 
Hey guys! I know it's tough. Trust me I've been in your shoes. Best thing you can do right now is just relax. Trust me there's plenty to stress about once you get into dental school as well lol. I was still in my last year of undergrad when I got accepted, and I didn't know where I was going until February. The best thing you can do right now is focus on your grades (if you're still in school) or focus on becoming a better applicant next year. It'll keep your mind off things and it can't hurt. If you end up getting in, great! You have some new experiences you can bring with you to dental school. If not, you have a whole semester of new experiences to talk about in your essays next year instead of just saying "I was just waiting around all Fall semester for a letter".

I actually ran into trouble with TMDSAS since my dentist LOR didn’t have a letterhead or signature, and he never replied to my email to edit it. I thought my chances to Texas schools was over! Here’s some hope to everyone else with below average gpa or turned in their application late.

Interesting. Mine was submitted 7/13 and still not a peep from SA.

When should we start getting nervous? No word yet from tx schools and 4 out of state interviews. You think its worth some extra effort anytime soon?

I’m getting super nervous. I have only heard from SA, and nothing from any of the other TX schools or any out of state schools. Idk what to think!

If its any consolation my buddy got 6 pre december invites last year and 6 post december invites which happened to lead to a san antonio acceptance...thats not everyone though, i would hate for jan 30th to roll around though and not have given any extra effort...just want to make sure if i do reach out its timed well..ahhhh sucks, oos is so expensive!

Sending them an email wouldn’t hurt. Not sure if it would help either though. It’s worth a try.

Hi, I am an out of state applicant. I have an interview at Baylor this Friday. I was just wanting to know what the interview process is like. Hoping to get some answers from those who have already interviewed.. If not, anything will help.

All I know is that I think out of states have the best chance at Texas A&M CoD than the other two and that the out of states that the school does choose are usually states without a dental school or are border states i.e. Alaska, Arkansas,
