Very cool! Thanks! When are they going to put a DO school in Albany or somewhere else in upstate New York? That's the one I want to hear about.;) :D

Thanks for the info

It would be nice to finally clear this up once people can designate touro-Harlem as a choice and Touro-Harlem puts up their website.

:luck:

I think you can add it. This is from AACOMAS. Isn't the Touro in NY the right one?:)

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences MO 02/14/2007
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Nevada NV 04/15/2007
Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York NY 06/01/2007
Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine OH 02/01/2007
Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine OK 02/01/2007

If you go to AACOMAS, you can designate Touro-Harlem as a choice now.

I just added this school. I am really exited, I didn't think it would open this cycle. It is supposed to have very good professors coming in and have brand new state of the art fascilities!! :D

It will be a very good school to go to. According to the admissions at Touro, they will be interviewing and accepting students to the program ASAP! :D

this is very exciting to hear more schools being accredited. hopefully one day the question of "what's a DO?" would come to an end.

I would consider adding this school, except rent is going to be insane. Anyone else worry about that problem?

once your in school you will learn this is not a good thing. More schools aren't the answer.

ah, but if the schools stand strong and there are more of them, i thought that more people would recognize the DO profession more. That's assuming that they become good institutions of course.

Hi Mletter,

I am just curious if you have any online resources that can shed any more information on the new school. Thanks!

I want to see these rotations also. They have to have some great sites. I do agree though that if we pump out some well trained DO's to go into the area that it could possibly help the profession.

I'm just excited to see the DO profession expanding. That's three new schools in one application year. Somehow, I'm proud. :D

Hi Mletter,

I am just curious if you have any online resources that can shed any more information on the new school. Thanks!

When I went to my interview at Touro-mi I was talking to the admission staff about the school. For now, I am sure the admission staff at either the Mare Island or Nevada location would be a great resource for info about the school, rotation sites, and housing until the Harlem website matures. I have heard from other premeds that the school will have on campus housing. Rotation sites have got to be many and good I mean the school is right in the middle of a wonderful hospital and educational district!

This school looks very interesting!

I would consider adding this school, except rent is going to be insane. Anyone else worry about that problem?

ooh yea.. its not going to be cheap i'll tell u that

Plus they want $200 for the secondary. That is insane!!!

Does anyone know the address to send the LORs to?

The legend is true. It DOES exist!

Plus they want $200 for the secondary. That is insane!!!

Are you pulling our legs? Where did you get $200, from their website? Maybe they have extra costs to cover for for this first class.
Anyway, I know one thing for sure, I think A LOT of people will apply for the location alone...I mean, hey, it's NYC...And the fact that NYCOM favors in-state and regional applicants might play in as far as OOS applicants are concerned.

So far my impression from most people is that the biggest considerations might be living expenses and the "guinea pig factor" (which is an obvious consideration for any new school).

I'm personally curious to see the outcome of the admissions culture in terms of stats and demographics (which will be interesting because it is slightly later in the season, meaning some of us will have already put down deposits or are already making plans around our tops choices). I also suspect they will get a fair share of solely MD applicants (again, for the sake of it being NYC).

That being said, I'm excited!
EDIT: OK, I found where you guys found the $200 fee...

So MSU is still planning on expanding? I had heard about it, but nothing recently so I thought that plan had fizzled.

You can see it yourself right here: http://www.touro.edu/osteopathic_medicine/prospective_students/admissions_ps.html

That is the cost of sending out several AACOMAS apps. And I thought $50 was a lot for secondaries.

I notice that the gallery doesn't show the outside of the campus. I wonder how the school looks like itself.

That part of Harlem is full of small shops and is very touristy. Unless they put a prominent sign on the facade you might be able to walk past the building without noticing.

At night when all the store fronts are shuttered with metal gates it should be easy to find though.

and you can hang out w/ pres clinton

sounds like an interesting place to be for med school

Makes you wonder how much these osteopathic medical schools are profitting to opening left and right...

Yeah there's on campus housing alright...it only costs $15,000 per year...thats like half the cost of med school right there....kinda sucks! even for NYC

Mare Island, Henderson, and now Harlem. It's only a matter of time before Touro-Kalamazoo...

this is very exciting to hear more schools being accredited. hopefully one day the question of "what's a DO?" would come to an end.

I volunteer in an ER and the woman in charge of answering phones and entering patient info didn't even know what a DO was...

I would consider adding this school, except rent is going to be insane. Anyone else worry about that problem?

According to their website it's $15k just for student housing. I dont know what it's like at other schools, but that's TWICE my undergrad room and board.

secondary application fee is $200

Hah. Well I'm glad other people caught that. Maybe the one in charge of designing their website got carried away and moved the decimal place over. Not that it should deter anyone who truly wants to go, but still.. this entire process is not only a tad bit stressful but definately costly after applying to multiple schools. 200 dollars is quite a chunk of change for a single school.

But to those that do apply -- good luck and hopefully a successful investment for you!

$200! Crap, I wish I had known that before I dropped the $50 on the primary. That's so much. It's the only school I would have considered in addition to UNECOM, which I love love love. But, my fiance and I have always meant to go back to NY. Oddly enough, just as a balance for the $200, the overall tuition and fees is 6-7K less than UNECOM.

Yeah there's on campus housing alright...it only costs $15,000 per year...thats like half the cost of med school right there....kinda sucks! even for NYC

Are you kidding? $15000 a year is nothing for NYC.

does anyone know what month school starts?

Well the initial email does mention that the application is now open for the Class of 2011 entering in August 2007. Which would be weird if they have their secondaries open until early June. but yea...August for sure

is anyone else concerned about the crime rates in this area?
