WHAT?! I thought they only interview first 2 weeks of each month?!

This makes me wonder how many people will ACTUALLY get interviewed between now and my date (Dec 8th) 🙁

In spite of the fact that they may interview more people than you thought, they may not accept everyone they interview and some applicants may not even show up to the interviews. I think you've still got a great shot in Dec.

Like Postal said, you're fine. Don't worry too much about earlier is better and the number of interviews given already. Of course, that helps, but it really comes down to how you execute on your interview day! Plus, December is not terribly late. Interviews in Sept.-Dec. are considered favorable interview months.

So that 200$ threw me off i did not realize it was an Auto interview. Should i still send in my secondary now. Mcat 30Q, GPA Science Freshman 2.8-->Cumulative Science 3.2 Lots of EC and Work EXP I am really good with interviews and I think harlem would be pardon the expression but Badass

lol all my friends have been using that word to describe why they want to visit me.

If you do essay in next few days, it will take secondary a week or two to arrive (depending on where you live) and than a week or two to confirm they received it. On top of this you have to wait another few weeks to get interview schedule. So that may put you too late for your stats

I dunno that was my experience so you have an idea of what a timline can be like with Touro

Thoughts?

Don't worry about interviewing in December. I had my interview early this month (and got the call this week!!) and one thing that stood out to me is how the director of admissions told us that they usually interview about 500 people to get their class of 135 and that their return rate is about 50%. He also said that last year he went about 20-30 deep in their wait list too.

So for those of you who have gotten accepted, is anyone for sure going here? I know that I am and I would love to make a friend beforehand!

I have my interview near the end of November. Did the direction of admissions or anyone inform you on information of rotations and updates to the school in the future?

But it is true that i would be guarenteed an interview. I just interviewed at LECOM-E and should be getting a letter in the next few days. I was planning on waiting on that. Are you a student at touro right now?

All that was said to me was that they're working towards a rotation in Manhattan but due to politics and other schools being at the hospitals, it's proving to be difficult. The one thing that the students told us also that changes is the professors. They said that at the end of the course the students evaluate them. I guess if they don't get good evals they are replaced? Those were the only newer things that I was told about.

I was about to say the same thing about rotations. I asked a few people and they all had a similar response of "oh it's impossible to know what rotation sites will be available by the time you get to that point since our rotation sites are always a work in progress." When I asked specifically about possible Harlem sites, or even sites in Manhattan in general, I was told "well we DO already have some spots in NYC!" which made me feel like the answer was most likely no...

I mean it is true though. They are a new school and need to get their name out. Obed said to us that it's hard because these hospitals have to go on blind faith that the students that are sent there are going to be trained properly. I would like to think that by the time I get to 3rd/4th year that they have expanded their rotation sites. And if not, when I interviewed they said that it's possible to set up a rotation elsewhere with admin approval. But I totally got the same feeling you did. But the way I look at it, I got accepted and medical school is going to be what I make of it, you know?

Just wanted to say that they interview 550 to accept only 100 students. They reserve 35 spots for their feeder programs such as their Master's program and their BS/DO program.

That makes no sense. They need to accept far more then 100 students in order to makes sure they fill their class. Remember that not everyone who is accepted decides to attend that school.

Hope this is indeed true, I mean it does make sense. And I have a feeling in particular about Touro-NY, that they need to accept extra because they are new, dont have rotations properly organized, and the deposit is huge with acceptance. Thus I do believe that many students will get accepted but if they have multiple acceptances, go somewhere else...unless they really love NYC or really want to be a part of a school that focuses on helping the under-served community (ie harlem)

I'm pretttty sure she meant to say they only have 100 seats available, not that they only accept that many.

They interview around 10 people a interview day (+ or - a few)

They have 8 or so interview days a month (+ or - a few)

They inteview starting in October ending in June. (7-8 months due to holidays (jewish included) + break)

so 10*8*7 = 550 or so interviews.

They accept around 50%-100% over what thier class is so around
150-200 people are accepted.

Something you have to remember is the fact that even though if you meet the cutoff you get an invite, is that many people cancel before thier interview. So they probably offer interviews to around 800-1000 (this number is based PURELY on conjecture.) but only fill around 550 slots.

Just some napkin math for those skeptical about the amount of people they interview. I pushed back my interview from Oct 4 to Dec 8 due to unforseen circumstances. Boooo.

Nice I will be interviewing with you dude. Do you already have an acceptance anywhere else, I vaguely remember reading on another thread that you got one?

Good luck with LECOM! Hope you get some good news🙂

No im not a student, just an applicant. I COULD and hopefully will be a student by end December (2-3 weeks after my interview)

Yeah thanks, that's what I meant lol.

They interview to fill only 100 seats

And I agree with the fact that their newness may be a discouraging factor for many applicants. I wonder if, to lure in more applicants, that's why they decided to go with the cut-off/secondary= invite strategy.......

Hey guys I read the email and I keep reading on this forum that a secondary=interview but I just wanted to make sure again cause I am willing to throw down the $200 if that's what it means. Thanks alot everyone.

A secondary application does equal an automatic interview invite. Good luck!

Ive tried calling this school at least seven times, on different days/times and I am finding it impossible to get someone on the phone. You guys who say that you have actually spoken to someone when you called, what time did you call? I haven't tried Obed's extension because I figure hes too busy, so I always try the extension of the assistants.

So if I get my secondary out by this week you guys think the earliest I'll get an interview is around Jan or Feb?

I sent in my secondary a week or so ago but I am waiting for a physician recommendation letter. Do i need to have my letter submitted before I receive an interview?

Yes you do need all of the required materials before they will process it-including the photo. I forgot mine and had to send one in later.

And as for you who is having a hard time calling in, do this instad: e-mail Obed. He will respond (usually) within 2 hours. Whereas when I have tried to call, I could never get a hold of anyone. But when I did call, I called right when they opened at 9. Good luck!

I would think that it would be Feb/March. If it's only the end of October now and they're scheduling through December, and you're just turning in your secondary now...Think about it. It takes probably around 2 weeks to process it, and then they'll contact you for an interview. I think the school is worth it, but it's up to you.

Im turning my secondary in today, I just hope interviewing that late doesnt kill any chance I have. Thanks for the reply.

Hi, guys:

Quick question. Did any of you who recently interviewed or interviewed two weeks ago receive an email today stating that the decision on interview would be delayed 'til next week due to the deans and some of the staff being at a conference this week?

Also, did the email include a "Technical Standards as Part of Admission Requirements" attachment that we need to sign and send back...either via email (after scanning it) or by postal mail?

Thanks! And good luck to all!

You will definitely have a chance by that time. Even if you are high wait listed. He told us that he ad to go about 20-30 deep into the list last year to fill all of their seats. Just be confident and you'll ace it. Don't worry!

I got this too. I'm not sure why the technical standards form is needed so urgently. A little odd, considering we don't know whether we've been accepted or not.

Maybe it means you got accepted and they just want you to hurry so they can see what your decision is😛

Thanks alot man, your response makes me feel better about mailing up that $200 check. Okay so its all sent out, now its just a waiting game. I hate waiting 🙁

Ya with Touro its brutal. I HIGHLY recommend in a week or two weeks to start checking your email EVERY HOUR or so. Yes this sounds crazy, but let me explain why. I received my email about scheduling interview date (i was offered 4 dates) and it was about 11am (pacific time). I emailed right back from my bed on my labtop. Yet somehow I didnt receive the first date I picked because it was full. So im assuming that the email went out at like 9am Eastern time. Within that little time, the first date was picked and I got screwed with a date a week later!

The email checking is easy if you have emails sent to your cell, like I do

I got this too, did you guys interview in NYC on Oct 12th?

Do you think we got in?!?! :luck:

Do I need to send my letters before I receive the interview or can I wait until after?

I don't want to say yes and then be wrong, but i got accepted last week and had to do the same thing. I know that it was part of their secondary to sign a technical standards form though too. But whatever you end up hearing, I hope it's good!!
