TOUROCOM-NY Acceptances

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hoping to get in to Touro! I have had to turn down two other admissions to DO schools and go on the waiting list for my backup for an interview, just trying to get in here. This is incredibly frustrating. Won't I feel like a complete idiot if I don't get in and have to repeat this whole process over again and wait a year. Ugh, this is a true test of patience to say the least. Anyone else feel like we are always hurrying up to wait around?

Hey, nope, i interviewed with you on the 27th, and still no news yet.

Why did you turn down an admissions!! Why not just cough up the deposit to the better of the two and wait if Touro comes around--Worse case scenario, you lose money, but at least you still have a guaranteed spot. You know the proverbial 'bird in the hand is better than one in the bush...kinda thing.'. Good luck to you though...It really would suck to have to go through the application again.

Hey all... I interviewed on 3/6. I haven't heard a decision yet, but...is anyone concerned about the fact that the school isn't even finished yet??? i know everyone has their personal reasons for choosing NY but that fact worries me, a lot. I am also concerned about the fact that there is no cafeteria, no gym on campus, no coffee shop or alike, no established student organizations...can anyone make me feel better? i am a New Yorker at heart. I lived in NY for a few years and moved back to FL (home base) I feel like I left my heart in NY. I really want to work in underserved urban areas, but I am worried about so much. HELP!

Gotta tell you, for myself--all of the above are things I actually LIKE. I like challenges, and progress and having the potential to create my environment, and be a 'pioneer'. This is one of the biggest reasons why this school appeals to me. Sure we dont get the ready made 'Tourocom NY Medicine' shirts, sure we might need to walk down to NYSC to exercise, sure we get to start student organizations up from scratch, and yes we might even take a few classes with lingering sawdust on the floor and the smell of new paint in the air--but you know what, every school had to have its first class. WE get to be the first class!! I for one much prefer to be at the forefront of something new and exciting instead of being just 'another' in a long line of 'anothers'.

If this potential role as a trailblazer worrys you too much, you should really take time and consider if this is the right fit for you. You know every one has a school which fits them better than others so you just have to make this decision for yourself. ANyways, you will have 119 other trailblazers with you on this journey so we can all share in the blood and glory!

FOR BLOOD AND GLORY!!!!!(Sorry just watched 300😛 )

that explains the delay.. hey we were promised 2 weeks, lets give em till then to panic haha.. as far as marsvenus's question: they are really receptive to suggetions. they asked at the interview i attended for ideas at any time, regarding shuttles to/from the hosipital, security etc. there arent student organizations cuz there are no students! you can make them if u have the time and desire im sure they would be really welcoming and helpful about it. We addressed the cafeteria issue, and they said they were going to try to work something out, what exactly is still up in the air. the gym is across the street tho i would rather run through the park nearby. um and ure in the city, theres a starbucks every 2 feet. there happens to be one down the street from touro, we made an effort to hunt for one while we were there.

hope that helps.

*still waiting on touro's decision*

Thanks for your input. I think it would be amazing to be at the foundation of what will one day be an amazing school. I love NY and I think that is really important. I have an acceptance at Nova (which I just forked over cash for). It is close to home for me. It is the comfortable, safer bet for me because it is a "med school in a box." I have parental pressure to go there. I guess more than anything I am looking for SOMEONE to approve me taking "the road less traveled." NY is the place for me. I can picture myself so clearly standing there with the NYC mayor, possibly the president, and many fellow classmates in four years feeling really proud that not only did we do it, but we helped make the school what it is. This is all very exciting for me. I guess I am just looking for someone to approve.

I heard all those things also at my interview. Just trying to break out of my comfort zone, thanks for the input!

Hello Mars and Venus, in reply to your post I also interviewed and was accepted at NSU. Though I turned it down initially for other reasons than not liking the school (I was very impressed at the interview at NOVA), most everyone I have talked to since Sept. who have heard about the school from friends and relatives have stated that it was probably a good choice to have done so. There are lots of pros and cons to each school but personally I could not get over the mandatory attendence, dress code, and the huge class size (240 at NSU compared to 120 at Touro NYC). My next interview after NSU was at Touro Vegas and seeing the smaller class size, people were a lot more friendly and seemed to know everyone else, and the way they were dressed in casual clothes seemed to be a much better, relaxed atmosphere, and I hope that Touro NYC will be pretty similar. NSU may be established, but who's to say that is always a good thing? If you say NYC is the place for you then I really do think you need to send in that deposit. I mean what better time to live in NYC than as a med-student when you will be living on loans and not worry about having to earn an income. Focusing on studing most of the time and knowing that there will be lots to do on weekends and breaks seems pretty exciting to me. Let us know what you decide. 😀

edit (sorry I don't know if you were accepted yet but best of luck)

*whistles to act casual and not get yelled at by dr kay*

I'm the one from long Island...the one who sounded like a horse (I was crazy sick that day) didn't come across as I wanted to 🙁
I remember you mentioning the "you're not accepted to TOUROCOM..." question (the worst question I've ever heard) but I'm not really sure which one u were...are u the one from Maryland? the one who was in the cab that wasn't paid for? 🙂

You are not getting yelled at:laugh: , I'm just trying to get you to relax and not stress yourself out. By the way I distintively remenbered telling you not to post anything unless it is an acceptance😡 . kidding (I think), I'm definetly rooting for you, like TerpDO, you are one of the reasons I check this thread hoping you get in soon. best of luck:luck:

TerpDO, Dr Kay - I don't y'all, but I am already loving you guys (or gals). Thank you for being so supportive. It's extremely sweet, and makes me want to get in Touro even more so I could be in the same class with such awesome people.

And btw, I am one of those people who needs a little yelling once in a while to keep myself from going berzerk, so dr kay, more power to you! and thank you...hopefully tomorrow I'll have some good news to share with you folks 🙂

They were supposed to send out emails and letters this past Friday, but because of the flood, they got backed up. I was told that they should be sending letters out in the early part of this week - so until then, we keep waiting and hoping. . .

I got my official acceptance letter this past friday 3/9, but maybe that's because I'm local to the school.

Hey guys, I got my letter today. I'm in, and I will be attending!! Can't wait to meet all of you guys when school starts! I'm so relieved.

medtechdoc ... oh ok i remember you!. Yeah, I was the guy from Maryland that was in the unpaid cab.

OK, do I know I said I would not post anything until I heard from the school but I'm freaking out here! I hear that people are starting to get snailmail letters. I moved 2 months ago (after I sent off my primary and secondary). I figured it wasn't a big deal b/c I have the same e-mail. I changed my address with AACOM but not with every individual school.

I have been trying to get in touch with anyone at TOUROCOM to make sure my correct address is on file (just in case they want to send me one of those fancy acceptance letters!). But I cannot get anyone on the phone. The admissions voicemail is full. I know they had a flood and the phones and internet were damaged or whatnot ... but still ... argh!!!

Any suggestions?

Congrats to the latest people to get in ... and good luck to all the rest!!!

Ok ... back to crying and shaking in the corner of my office ...

for all you who recently interviewed, when did you send in your secondary applications? I just want to know what the turnover is...cause i talked to obed and he pretty much implied that ill get an interview, but my secondary is being sent to them in just a few hours...

this is by far my top choice of schools, and i have an apr 15 deadline for LARGE deposits on other schools...i hope i might know by then, is a month enough time? (please say yes)😕

call later in the day..i got in contact with obed around 515...but try calling the school and dialing dr sexters ext which is 2008 (bc he is away for the week) you will get their secretary (?) and ask for obed, she will connect you or leave a message...either way, its better than NOT being able to leave any sort of record of your call

Thank you for the suggestion. I couldn't "hold my horses" anymore so I tried calling again. I was able to get in touch with Obed (I think, I didn't ask)!!!

They said their systems were down and they are now back online ... as of like earlier today. He stated that the decisions for the 27th and 28th should be e-mailed "shortly" ... I'm guessing a couple of days. And hard copies will follow in snailmail.

Not too sure how people are getting their hard copies first ... but doesn't really matter. Congrats you guys!

The Horrible Waiting: Round 2! ... ding ding ding

I just managed to get in touch with Obed right now (around 1:55pm CST) and he said that they've just managed to get their system online and emails should be coming around, for interviews or otherwise.

Hope that helps those who've been trying to get in touch with them lately (like me).

I interviewd on 2/14. I recieved my e-mail accpetance on Friday 2/23 and I got my official mail acceptance 3/9

Hey guys, random question. When you mentioned Touro in the secondary, did you type TCOM, TouroCOM, or did you spell out Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine everytime you mentioned the school? Thanks!

I believe I put "Greatest School In The World and I'll Kiss You If I Get In COM" whenever I mentioned the school .... 🙂

I put TouroCOM throughout ... but put Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine for the first mention of the school.

Hey guys just got my first acceptance 🙂 Got the letter via snail mail. I interviewed on 2/28. My stats: 3.4 overall, 3.2ish sci, 25 mcat. I'd have a bit more enthusiasm but I haven't slept in 36 hours. Time to grab a beer then pass out. Good luck to everyone else!

hey congratulations highballa33 🙂 ...hope to join u soon...btw which interviewee were u?

I need someone to clarify what this says 🙄 My brain isn't fully functional right now.

1) Does my $1,000 tuition fee have to be received (or post-marked) by March 15th, considering I only get a little over a day to send it out?

NOTE: All accepted applicants are required to submit two deposits in order to secure a place in the Fall entering class. This includes a $2,000 non-refundable acceptance deposit (payable within two weeks after the date of the Letter of Acceptance) and a $1,000 tuition deposit due prior to May 15, 2007. These deposits will be fully applied toward your first semester’s tuition. The tuition deposit (1,000) is refundable provided cancellation is made prior to the first day of mandatory orientation.

THANKS for the help!

well it says "prior to May 15, 2007" so I would make sure it's there by May 14 if not a week earlier...hope this helps! 🙂
