Tufts c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Would anyone be coming down on the late afternoon of the fourth from the NYC area and be willing to carpool?

Alternatively, is anyone going to be driving out to North Grafton from either the Boston airport or a train station and would want to split the cost of a rental car?

I'll be driving from the airport and wouldn't mind splitting the cost- that is if we need to. I read in the email that we are supposed to be receiving another email concerning travel, so I'm thinking we might have some help getting to/from the airport or maybe they're doing the program where potential students stay with current students?

Anyway- give it a couple days and I'll let you know! My mom gets rentals super cheap, so we might be able to get a great deal!

sounds good! i don't think they'll be offering much help getting to north grafton from the airport, since they didn't last year, but i could be wrong. but we'll see when we get the follow up email. it would be nice if they could arrange for us to stay with some current students...flights and trains get expensive, avoiding hotels would be great!

I have been looking through old threads on this forum for information about interviews, but have not really found anything except for advice on attire. Any chance someone could link me to an appropriate thread on the topic? Thanks!

Try the interview feedback section of the veterinary forum. I posted a pretty detailed bit when I interviewed at Tufts.

I hate to be THAT person, but I just spent 15 minutes going through old posts (including those of orca and kaydubs) and I still can't find anything. Would you mind PMing me some of the info you've been able to find? Just the links will do- a starting point or whatever's convenient. Sorry. :/

If you have any direct questions, feel free to PM me. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have. From basic to specific.

Does anyone know if we are supposed to reply to the email saying we are coming, or they just assume we will be there?

It seems to me that they assume we will be there, no response necessary. I think that's common. Why wouldn't you RSVP as "Heck yes!" unless you've decided to pull your application?

All we have to do as a response is wait patiently for that extra information they promised would be delivered "shortly." Adcoms have a funny definition of that word, it seems 😉

I think if you are planning on bringing an additional person, you have to reply. I'm hoping there will be follow-up ****EMAILS****. You can always email for clarification.

 I was in immunology when I was responding. my bad 😉

Follow-up animals. Bahahaha! Show's what you've got on the brain!
Such an appropriate slip considering the context!

Hey all, I double checked with admissions this morning and Tufts DOES STILL offer overnight accommodations for prospective students with current students. Please keep an eye on your e-mails for more information sometime in the next few days! 🙂

I haven't heard anything from Tufts... I am so nervous!! I hope they are still sending out invites!

nothing in the mail. SIGH*

I hope everyone who is waiting to hear just like I am receives good news soon!

OMG! I got an interview invite too!!!! I am in shock and disbelief as I can't believe that I actually got an invite!!!! I cried like a baby and my eyes are still misting up. Unbelievable!!!!!!!

Congratulations on the interview! Just tried to reply to your message - SDN says your mailbox is full... ?

Me 4 =( Has anyone tried calling? I called VMRCVM yesterday and actually found out I was on the interview waitlist....

no word is better than a rejection letter!

My sentiments exactly!

No, I haven't really called anywhere yet. Going with the flow. That sucks they didn't notify you that you were on the interview waitlist. I wish these schools were a little more up front with that information... by that I mean I wish they'd let us know by now!!! I know, patience is a virtue 🙂

Just received an email that I've been wait listed for an interview! Good luck to everyone that's interviewing in the upcoming weeks! :luck:

I got waitlisted for an interview! I am unsure if I should be excited or not.. Tufts is one of my top choices though! The thing is.. I have another interview already offered for Feb.6th for my bottom choice university. How likely is it to get off the waitlist?? Especially at somewhere as great as Tufts !

Yeah me too! I got waitlisted for an interview, doesn't really feel like bad news, even if its not good.

I also got wait-listed for an interview... Not totally sure how to feel, but it's better than a rejection! It's also my first glimpse of any type of good news. :xf:

Good luck to everyone!

Next email from admissions for interviewees should be arriving by the end of the week according to their office! Will include RSVP info, guest info, dietary restrictions, and more! Whoop whoop! 😍

Congrats to everyone who has heard back with some sort of news! At this point, I'm guessing that no news is just no news...

Very exciting. I will probably print that email to basically memorize for no rational reason.

Ahhhhh! Just got not one, but THREE emails from Tufts! I've never been so happily overwhelmed!

Are there anymore tufts interview weekends? I would do anything for an invite 🙁

Congratulations to everyone who got an invite!!! 😀 Best of luck on your interviews.

Yikes, so they could notify us through email, snail mail, or by last minute phone call? That's nerve racking! I guess I just assumed that schools would email for interviews and save the snail mail for acceptances and rejections. I suppose it's fine as I'm already stalking the mail man anyway.

I still have not heard a thing either. Sent an email to vetadmissions. Would be great to find out either way! I was accepted to csu but would love to have the opportunity to interview with tufts. Both are such great schools!

Just got an email from Tufts saying that we should be able to check our admissions decision starting at 5pm EST today. Not looking good to me. 🙁 17 minutes of freaking out until I know for sure.

Hi, for those who were interviewed in December, would you mind sharing what kinds of questions you were asked? Thanks

Hey everyone. I've seen a couple people post about rental cars and driving. I thought the public trans in Mass is awesome. Could any current students or locals comment on if they recommend private versus public transportation?
Thanks!

I didn't even get an email about status checking or anything. Just sent an email to vetadmissions to see what is going on!

Public transportation in Boston is decent, but I definitely wouldn’t rank it with top marks like some websites have done. The T is pretty old and everything seems to be falling apart despite fare increases. That being said I haven’t had any major problems with it because I don’t commute by it everyday.

If you’re flying into Logan and want to get to Grafton, a good way to do that would be to take the Silver line to South Station, then to take the train to Framingham/Worcester line to Grafton. The station is about half a mile away from the veterinary school. You could easily walk it, but there are no sidewalks just to let you know.

Thank you for that info. I don't mind walking down roads without sidewalks since that was the only option in the town where I grew up, but I generally assume that sidewalks are present nowadays. I can just imagine my delight to find muddy road shoulders where I expected flat concrete after 7 hours piddling around airports and planes followed by an hour+ ride on public transit :diebanana:

If you haven't already, check out the interview feedback page on Tufts.

Poke around there. Various people have submitted tons of questions from their interviews. I've been obsessed with that page since I got my interview invite.

Anybody have a change in the admissions decision yet? 🙁

The MBTA system is great and all as long as you live along certain subway lines within certain parts of the city, but I would give it a pretty poor grade otherwise. So if you can avoid the commuter rail situation, I would since it really sucks... especially going outbound in reverse traffic. I don't remember what time the interviews start, but realistically there's only 1 train that you can take in to get there before 9am. That would be the 6:50 am train out of South Station that gets to Grafton at 8am. The next one won't get you to Grafton until 10:30. Personally, getting ready for the interview and taking whatever train from the hotel to South Station by 6:30-6:45 (or heaven forbid, straight from the airport) would be stressful as all hell. If you absolutely have to take it though, I'm pretty sure you can call the campus police and they will pick you up from the commuter rail station if it's a yucky day or it's super cold or the street is not amenable to walking in pretty interview clothes. Here's the schedule if you want to take a look. Gross.

Taking the commuter rail + T fare round trip is going to cost $24-25 too, so it's not exactly cheap. If you can share a rent a car with someone, it might be REALLY worth it. The Boston area has a ton of zipcars, so if you're a member that's actually probably the best deal you'll get. That's how I got to my interview and back when I lived in the city. At $7/hr and not having to pay for gas, it really couldn't be much better.

Check the interview feedback also 🙂

From a current student: I have several classmates who live in Boston and commute. I think it's easier to live local & cheaper but others may disagree. I live about 15 minutes from campus and typically carpool with my 2 roommates (fellow firsties!)

The commuter rail is doable but you just gotta know the schedules. You may be able to hitch a ride with a current student going back to Boston in case you need to catch a flight. If so, I'd try contacting admissions about it or the 2 girls in charge of overnight accommodations. Looking forward to hosting some of you 🙂
