i hope uci and ucsf follow suit. by now chances seem slim but it would be nice to officially know their decision.

UCLAMAN, yeah, it's about time to have some closure from those UC's that are keeping us hanging.

Just bummed @ SD since I really poured my soul into that 2-pg autobio & was looking forward to having an excuse to visit the lovely San Diego weather. 😀 I can't complain though since I've gotten some love from a few UC's.

Violinrose, hope you'll hear something good. I'm trying to have faith that the UC process will give us all at least one chance to stay in CA.

i just checked my status for UCLA and it says that my final decision letter was sent 2/20/03.... the suspense builds!!! i guess that means they sent a batch of everything out... so go check ur status!

I'm throwing in the towel with the UC's...time to face reality that I will not be returning to Cali for medschool. Oh well. UCLA is my last hope, and they are sending secondaries out through the end of the month. Not looking likely that I'll even get one at this point. Good luck to the rest of you in the waiting process. Hope you all have better luck than I. 😀

hey dr. dodger dog,

I wouldn't count on the letter coming tomorrow because their status page dates is usually a few days earlier than when they actually send the letter. For me, status page said letter was sent 1/28, but it wasn't actually sent until 1/31 and I received it on 2/5 (i'm in NorCal).

There's a good chance it is good news since the rumor is that they send out acceptances once a month and seems like it's about time they send another batch. Best of luck!

i feel ur pain. final decision was sent for me on 2/20. guesss that only leaves uci as my lone hope.

just received an email from teri hall of ucdavis saying my app is being held for further consideration, will not have final decision until all interviews are finished...I was hoping for better news...oh well...

Dude, my wait has been nothing compared to yours. I was there early Dec. But still, 2.5 months is long enough.

I was reading threads about UCLA from last year, and it appears that outright acceptances occurred 1-2 months after the interview, which is not so good for us, but who knows. Waitlists and rejections didn't seem to get sent out till April or something. More waiting for us. 😎

Oh yes, one more thing - Hooray kiping and lola!!

i haven't received a rejection or interview at ucla yet, so everynow and then i check the status page hoping to see the final decision letter sent, so that i know they won't be stringing me along much longer. Today, i was checking it and my girlfriend was here and I saw that the final letter box still wasn't checked and i went off on this big tirade about how wrong it is of them to not just reject me and get it over with and what the **** is there problem just keeping me in a pile trying to mess with my mind because i know theres no way they're going to call me in for an interview because they've had my secondary forever, etc. etc. this whole time my gf is giving me a wierd look and as i was shutting down the page and finishing my selfindulged tempertantrum she said, "i don't get it, it says interview requested on there."
And I looked and sure enough, they had requested an interview. I thought that was pretty funny. I was so stuck on being negative and i didn't even think to check and see if they'd actually requested an interview i was just waiting for a rejection. so, everyone ~~~positive thoughts okay.😛

and major congrats to Dr. Dodger dog, lola and kiping. good luck on the interviews!!!

Anyone know what the UC Davis 'hold' category is all about? According to Terri Hall, people are put into this category until all the applicants are interviewed, at which point the committee will make a decision. Does anyone know how likely it is to get an acceptance from this category or how many people make it to this category?

just checked ucla status and see my final decision letter was sent 2/24. i didn't really think there was actually any hope of getting a secondary this late...

uci is my only california hope left now and i'm still on hold for interview 🙁

It sounds as if they just sent out a batch of pre-secondary rejections, so if your status page does not say final letter sent, I think you may just get a secondary

For a pretty darn good school ucla has the lamest admissions timetable. I realize that it is difficult to go through every single application, file etc....but other schools get the same volume of applications and don't lag this much. To still be sending out secondaries in March is a little overboard.

My premed advisor says that UCLA is notoriously the slowest UC. Their attitude is that they'll take their sweet time processing their thousands of applications because, no matter what, they'll still get a good class.

I still haven't received a secondary or a rejection from UCI. Does anyone know how long they are sending out secondaries 'till?

Looks like I'm USC bound this fall as I withdrew all my apps from out of state schools as soon as I got that acceptance. It'll just be massive student loan city for me! But I am thrilled I not only got in somewhere, but at a school in CA that I really liked

lola, I can't volunteer since I'm still waiting post-interview. Btw, congrats on the UCI interview--that's great you'll have a chance to stay in CA!!

After having visited UCSF, comparing how LA and SF treat their interviewees is like night & day. At LA, they just let you sit and wait for most of the time, the tour lasts @ 15 min, and they're not encouraging at all @ having apps go sit in on classes (it's not part of the interview day activities). My interviewer was 40 min late, and barely apologetic--she actually spent another 15 min or so just chit-chatting w/ the admissions staff. I felt as though my interviewer intentionally tried to throw me off balance a few times, and made me feel as though I had to justify my background/experiences. I didn't get an overall good feeling at the end of the day. I remember that last year, some SDNers made similar observations.

The Drew interview day was actually much better. Our tour lasted one hour! We visited the NICU and I remember our tour guide saying something like at UCLA, there are many parents who refuse to let "short coats" (students) touch their babies. At the Drew/King MC, on the other hand, students are welcome to come up to the NICU and help feed the babies and hold them. This might be an overgeneralization, but my impression was that there are some differences in clinincal training.

At SF, they organize a great day for you and basically give you every opportunity to see almost any part of the program you're interested in. Most of the people you meet are super warm and friendly. My interviewers were only a few minutes late and they both apologized profusely, and they conducted the interviews in a really gentle manner, not making me feel at all that I was being tested or drilled. At the end of the day, I could only describe SF w/ superlatives.

I don't mean to knock UCLA, b/c it's a great school (esp. now w/ the new hospital and extra funding), I'm sure there are wonderful people there, and I've heard claims that students are happy. Just wanted to share my experiences. Guess it all reflects the culture of each program.
