This thread is for discussing applications to the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in the 2024-2025 (class of 2029 hopefuls) cycle.
This is what I was told by the admissions committee:Does anyone know the prompt of the supplemental personal statement? Or at least what it has been in past years?
No not yet! I was starting to get worried about it too.Has anyone been sent the info to do the supp. app. yet? It was supposed to go out in mid-August
I've just received the email for the applicant portal which includes all the secondary application info I believe!Has anyone been sent the info to do the supp. app. yet? It was supposed to go out in mid-August
Same here I got mine as well on the 27thI've just received the email for the applicant portal which includes all the secondary application info I believe!
On your applicant portal, you can view the GPA being considered. I think the science and cumulative GPA is calculated by VMCAS while the last 45 is calculated by Davis. I am not sure how they look at retaken classes though.I am a uc davis undergraduate student and I’m wondering if they will go off the vmcas calculated GPAs or my gpa calculated through the university. My vmcas gpa is lower than the university one but I’m not sure which they will use, or how they look at classes retaken. Does anyone know?
Dang that means I’m kinda screwed 🙁 it’s okOn your applicant portal, you can view the GPA being considered. I think the science and cumulative GPA is calculated by VMCAS while the last 45 is calculated by Davis. I am not sure how they look at retaken classes though.
Editing to add that I just found this: "Cumulative GPA: UC Davis and VMCAS include the original and repeated grade in all GPA calculations even if your college did not include the original grade in the overall calculation." This is on your applicant portal under GPAs.
Thank you I hope so!They use science and last 45 GPA to initially rank applicants so if you meet those requirements, I am sure you have a good chance!
No it isn’t. A professional degree is like a PharmD, MD, DVM, etc.Hi guys, for the supplement application question of a professional degree, is a bachelor’s considered a professional degree? TIA
Yeah exactly! It will just submit automatically at the deadlineUC Davis supplemental application does not have a submit button right? It automatically submits on its own tonight the 15th??
I’ve not seen any official statement about how exactly they consider GPA. I’ve been told that vet schools in general do take the difficulty of your classes and school into account, and I’m sure majoring in chemistry at Berkeley is about as rigorous as anything you could do. It’s also worth mentioning that no school picks applicants based on GPA alone—your experiences matter, your personal statement matters, your essay on the supplemental application matters, etc. They’re also not going to pick a totally homogenous class, but one that includes people with a variety of strengths. Having a lower GPA doesn’t preclude you having something worthwhile to bring to the table.Does anyone know if Davis factors in which school/major you graduate from when ranking GPAs? I'm a chem major at Berkeley and I'm worried my GPA doesn't compare to the stats listed.
Mine is the sameMy portal still has the message explaining that it will automatically submit all supplemental material on October 15th, which seems odd since the 15th was some time ago. I was expecting that message to disappear and some change to be noticeable in the portal after the deadline. What do y’all’s portals look like?
I think you should be good!Hey everyone, just a clarifying question. My application said “ready for portal” on oct 15, but said “application complete” on Oct 16th. Am I good?
I don’t have any rejected pre-reqs (at least, not yet), but I also just decided to retake one in the spring, so I’m planning to call admissions tomorrow morning and ask how they’d like me to document that. I’ll let you know what they say!Hi! One of my pre-reqs got rejected and I am
planning to take the class in Spring of 2025. Would I email to clarify that I will take the pre-req since it’s not in my planned courses? Or how would that work?
Couldn’t find a number for them, so I sent them an email—hopefully will get a response soon!I don’t have any rejected pre-reqs (at least, not yet), but I also just decided to retake one in the spring, so I’m planning to call admissions tomorrow morning and ask how they’d like me to document that. It looks like they’ve announced the release date about a week beforehand in previous cycles. If they’re on track from last year, we should be getting that announcement any day now. Then again, I know some schools have had an unusually high number of applicants and it’s caused delays in processing—hopefully that won’t be the case for Davis. I’d almost rather not know, I’m going to be anxiously checking all day, whenever it is!When does UC Davis notify us regarding the interview invite release date?
They told me that we can message them on the applicant portal! They didn’t specify what information they’d need about the course, but every other school I asked wanted the course title, course number, name of the school I’m taking it at, and the semester I’m taking it.Hi! I’m in California 😄 I’ll be checking my email all day… it has to be this week…It has to be soon!! Their interview dates are in 2 weeks. It could still be later today, they are a few hours behind in California
For release date or decision by 9/15?In previous years they sent an email about the release date. But it has consistently been before 9/15 8 pm PST for the past 3 years
Gosh I hope! That's exciting! Hopefully that means we will hear something this week!
I saw that too and wondered if anyone else saw iton the portal, there’s a “interview” section on the left hand panel. This should mean we’re getting a message anytime soon
I think that’s been there but I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure I noticed it around when the supplemental application was due in Octoberon the portal, there’s a “interview” section on the left hand panel. But idk if that’s new
Also an fyi, they just responded to an email I sent yesterday and they’re planning to send a message this week
