"Review the Principles of Community for UC Davis, both Prologue and Principles of Community sections: Principles of Community.

As a pre-veterinary student, how have you upheld these principles within your current, former campus community, or work environment? As we look at the context of the profession, how will these principles influence you as a DVM student and into practice?"

I am a uc davis undergraduate student and I’m wondering if they will go off the vmcas calculated GPAs or my gpa calculated through the university. My vmcas gpa is lower than the university one but I’m not sure which they will use, or how they look at classes retaken. Does anyone know?

On your applicant portal, you can view the GPA being considered. I think the science and cumulative GPA is calculated by VMCAS while the last 45 is calculated by Davis. I am not sure how they look at retaken classes though.

Editing to add that I just found this: "Cumulative GPA: UC Davis and VMCAS include the original and repeated grade in all GPA calculations even if your college did not include the original grade in the overall calculation." This is on your applicant portal under GPAs.

I’ve not seen any official statement about how exactly they consider GPA. I’ve been told that vet schools in general do take the difficulty of your classes and school into account, and I’m sure majoring in chemistry at Berkeley is about as rigorous as anything you could do. It’s also worth mentioning that no school picks applicants based on GPA alone—your experiences matter, your personal statement matters, your essay on the supplemental application matters, etc. They’re also not going to pick a totally homogenous class, but one that includes people with a variety of strengths. Having a lower GPA doesn’t preclude you having something worthwhile to bring to the table.
At this point in the year, none of us can change our GPA for the application cycle, and although that evokes kind of a helpless feeling while we wait, I think it’s worth pointing out that just being qualified to apply took years of hard work; that’s something to be proud of. And, I really do think that being a chemistry major at Berkeley is more impressive than a less rigorous major elsewhere—I don’t know exactly how Davis measures that kind of thing, but it definitely counts for something.

I was expecting that message to disappear and some change to be noticeable in the portal after the deadline. What do y’all’s portals look like?

Mine also looks the same. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I think the next time the portal will update is mid-November when they extend interview invites. However, its my first application cycle so I am not too sure

I just got one of my courses conditionally approved which they initially said didn’t count, but after some back and forth and archive hunting for an old syllabus they just sent me an email saying to “keep this email in your records for the future”!! I would like to believe this is good news for me considering their decisions for interviews are supposed to come out in about 3 weeks per their website.

It looks like they’ve announced the release date about a week beforehand in previous cycles. If they’re on track from last year, we should be getting that announcement any day now. Then again, I know some schools have had an unusually high number of applicants and it’s caused delays in processing—hopefully that won’t be the case for Davis. I’d almost rather not know, I’m going to be anxiously checking all day, whenever it is!

They told me that we can message them on the applicant portal! They didn’t specify what information they’d need about the course, but every other school I asked wanted the course title, course number, name of the school I’m taking it at, and the semester I’m taking it.

I saw that too and wondered if anyone else saw it

That’s been there since the portal opened! I noticed it back in October 🙂 it’s just where they’ll upload it if we do get an interview!

Also an fyi, they just responded to an email I sent yesterday and they’re planning to send a message this week

did they specify if that would be interview decisions or just an update?
