I like it too, but I am a little confused about the pre-req drop-down part of it. They do not list in which courses labs are required, only credits taken towards the field of study. For example, if I have taken 2 O-chem lectures that satisfy the credit requirement, should I continue listing the 2 labs I have taken to satisfy the lab requirement listed here: http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/students/dvm_program/admissions/required_prevet_courses.cfm

I did now just to be safe. Anyone else a little confused about that aspect?

Send an e-mail to admissions and ask!
 
Are they going to add a submit button or just take whatever's saved on the portal?
 
Not having to pay a fee + press a "submit" button makes me nervous.
 
My portal now says that I have done everything I need to do for my application to be complete! Yay!
Now I just need to finish that optional VSTP app....
 
So...... The portal says 12 quarter units of English. I have 8 units because that was what was required of my degree.....

Looks like you have to take some English this winter or following spring to meet the prereqs. I'd call em up to make sure though.
 
Does anyone know if the supplemental application is up yet? I've filled out my info on the portal already.
 
Does anyone know when invitations to interview/rejections come out? I know it'll be mid-November but was hoping for a more precise answer.

The portal still just says "Early November," and I haven't heard anything else from the professors I talked to (then again, I didn't specifically ask them when the offers would go out). It could be that they don't know when they'll get to it, given the new admissions process.

I would hazard a guess that even they aren't exactly sure when interview offers will go out, given the new process and the drastic change in time frame.
Also, if they give out a specific date, they will have a thousand applicants breathing down their necks at 12:01 am on that day. :laugh:
 
Because Davis changed their admissions process to pure number crunching, and my strongest asset is not my science GPA (way lower than other "average" applicants). I am super pessimistic about my chances. And we're supposed to get invites/rejections in ~1 week.. That's terrifying.

You truly NEVER know with admissions. It's all a bunch of craziness. I know telling you to not worry and that everything will be ok won't make you feel better so I won't. But hang in there and don't count yourself out yet. I understand the terrified feeling, and there's not much anyone can say to make you feel better.

They are placing heavy emphasis on your recommendations, too! The PPI evaluations have a section for recommenders to write paragraphs about you, and I know Davis is looking at that.
 
Got an email from Davis this morning saying my application was complete. For a minute my thought was "wow, that was a quick rejection", but I jump ahead.
 
Oh man I thought the exact same thing! I figured it was a super quick rejection. Now I know what a panic attack is like. I am never going to make it through this application process.

Wait until every email you get (ESPECIALLY if you have a smartphone) sends you into a mini panic attack. You get used to the stressful heart race of anticipation as you open your email to make sure it was indeed a LivingSocial ad and not an email you want.
 
I got a notification as well, and definitely panicked for a second 😳
 
Well I had a heart attack a week ago after I saw a missed call and voicemail from Davis, CA. Turns out it was about my online shoe purchase.

So needless to say seeing this email and not remembering my login did not turn out well.
 
Hey guys, don't fret. This is really really new for Davis so I doubt they are doing "pure" number crunching. And just bc your gpa/vet hours aren't anywhere resembling the average does not mean you are donezo. I am living proof!

Btw I'm one of the class of 2017 liaison, and I barely know what's happening with you guys! My friend and I were just emailed yesterday by Yasmin about coming up with interview mentor/tour guides! Yesterday!!

I'll try to keep you guys posted if I hear anything. Remember, if you aren't hearing anything one day from Davis, does not mean you won't hear positive things the next day!

So interviews are supposed to be scheduled in a month...this is driving me crazy!! Not that I think I have a shot at Davis anyway, I knew it was a crapshoot to apply OOS with low stats. But still!!! Get it over with already 🙂
 
Better earlier than later!! It was painful to sit around for months when everyone else knew they got into a school!

I know! And everytime someone posts in this feed, I have a minor freakout thinking that someone got an invite for interviews and I haven't haha. No bueno lol
 
Well, good luck everyone!!! I take things literally, so when they say "mid-November", I'm thinking November 15 is going to be the lucky day 😉 Best of luck to you all. Honestly, this is just a terrible process, but I hope there's an ending we can all look forward to!
 
I'm pretty sure I know WHEN interviews are ... Unfortunately it's during our 3 finals and winter break. So I'm pretty sure you will hear soon!

Yea they do have it posted online that interviews are Dec 13, 14, 17, 18, & 19 🙂

Hopefully invites start coming out soon!

Well poop. How come they don't tell ME that! I asked if those were set in stone and I never got a yes or no.

They emailed my friend and I last week about getting you guys mentors... I really don't know how we are going to swing it because everyone's either going to be stressed out during musculoskeletal block finals or gone during winter break. Ugh problems of a vet student!

That is weird that you didn't get a definitive answer, guess we will see! 🙂

And yes I bet it could be difficult to find some mentors during that time but I am sure all the interviewees will be grateful to all who help 😀

Maybe I'll guilt trip people with this idea. Or start playing poker and having them owe me via mentorship.
 
Hehe I like that idea. Hopefully you are better at poker than me! This might be a silly question, but what are the roles of the mentors usually?
 
I'm sure everything is still a mess there at admissions. I'm wondering if they might push their schedule back a bit to accommodate. But I don't think I could take the extra wait!

Well they USED to have a interview orientation where you guys came up several weeks before and listen to us gab about how to prepare for the interview and how life is at UC Davis blah de blah blah. Unfortunately this year, we can't really help you bc we don't even know how your interview is (and believe me, people have asked me to be on the nonexistent Interview panel- maybe that's why I have friends 😉

Last year they started an interview mentor program where when we came to interview, we had a person to contact beforehand and to meet up with us after we interviewed. UNFORTUNATELY, we have exams during two of the "sessions" (dunno what that means) so I don't even think they looked at what's happening to our schedule.


I would like it pushed earlier. I think you guys would agree with that 🙂
 
Maybe they're waiting till Thanksgiving to send invites...

Last year I got a rejection letter on New Year's Eve. It was my day off and I had planned to sleep in. Was woken up to open the letter, read it out loud, tossed it across my bed, and went back to sleep

I have a feeling invites will begin no later than the 19th. At least that's what my magic 8-ball says.
 
Gah! I feel like I have been saying "today is the day" for 2 weeks straight. Oh well I am resolving to not obsess until the 19th now...
 
I wonder if I should even bother looking for an email until people on here start getting them. My last name starts "Zu," and I'm betting they send them out alphabetically.

By the way, I talked to some of my friends who are M.D.'s, and to a few UC Davis professors, and they all said that the MMI format is much, much better than the traditional interview in terms of fairness to interviewees. So now I'm not worried about that so much, at least!
 
And apparently I was so wrong!

I just got my interview offer via the portal, and I got an interview offer for the VSTP as well! I haven't scheduled my interview yet, but it looks like several people already have (based on what spots are available).

I hope you all find out soon!
 
I'm a bit new here (been lurking for a while though), but I just had to pop in and say that I got an interview offer for Davis too! So excited!

I just got that email too...my heart was pounding out of my chest. I was like "oh no...rejection email maybe!" Are you guys instate or OOS applicants?
