This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Many things factor- upward trend in gpa, your extracurriculars and devotion to underserved, qualities of LOR, and also application completeness as much as a whole bunch of other factors. Definitely do not have a preference if you live/from Irvine. Only one member of our cohort was a UCI undergrad. However, like the other programs they do accept on a rolling admissions basis and they have a early priority deadline compared to the rest
Would it be possible to get your contact info! I have been accepted to Davis and Irvine but am having a really hard time deciding. Thank you !!

Having so much trouble deciding between Davis or Irvine :/ any reccomendations? I know that UC Davis has a writing specialist but have also heard amazing things about UC Irvine. Also happy to answer any questions about the application process :)

Similar boat. I would choose UCI and here is why.

1. Smaller cohort 12 v.s ~20 (more attention will be placed on your needs, more likely to stand out in a smaller group, more personalized letter, it is a very selective program and medical schools know this (12/600 - 2% acceptance - congrats!!!) )
2. Year-round MCAT prep
3. The program coordinators at UCI have been on top of everything. They don't want you to be scrambling for a place to live and want to avoid any delays receiving your financial aid.
4. The majority of undergraduate students at UCD are pre-health (more competitive environment)
5. The post-bacc program coordinators at UCI are a part of the UCI SOM admissions staff
6. They now have a 90% matriculation rate (can't find the stats on Davis)
7. ~8 min away from Newport Beach

Thank you so much for your response definitely so many amazing reasons to attend the program! Would you happen to know about academics at Irvine ?

Hello, I spent an hour yesterday asking both UCI and UCD questions regarding their program.

But first, I agree with the people recommending UCI over UCD above!

It seems that UCI does have or close to having its final cohort so those of us in the waitlist are unfortunately out of luck. I asked about how their waitlist works (such as is it based in the order of our application submitted, merits, etc.), but I did not get a clear answer. If anyone has any information and do not mind, can you please share.

Unfortunately I did not receive (yet?) my secondary interview. If you did not receive one yet, there is hope! To confirm to see if this year was at all similar to last year's process, I asked UCD about the stage of their cohort decision (basically if we still have hope). Similar to last year, they are/will still be sending out requests for primary interviews "maybe" until May. A personal story about this is my upperclassman friend getting a primary interview mid May last year despite people already getting accepted early April. Some others experienced this in last year's forum.

I got mixed answers for UCSF when calling them. Previously they mentioned they did not send out invites for the interview until late April to May (which matched the last 2 years timeline in SDN). However, another time I called to confirm this, they mentioned they are already sending out interview requests. Looking back in the history in this forum, it seems there has already been two people accepted to the program (man I'm jealous :p ). What I like about UCI and UCSF is that they at least send out rejections similar early so you know when to start crying (unlike UCD that leads you on and gives hopes).

Anyone else stuck in the UCSD waitlist?

Good luck on the process and cannot wait for the results!

Hi everyone,
I Just wanted to let you know that I got an email from the UCI program director that our cohort is complete as of this morning (12 students). Those on the waiting list may have an opportunity to get in if one of us drops out / chooses another program. I know it’s not the best news, but keep your head up there is still hope. Good luck everyone!

How was your UCSF interview experience?

It went really well! The interviewers were really nice. One of them had thoroughly reviewed my app beforehand, and the other interviewer had not, so she was essentially the one asking all of the questions. It lasted about an hour and they pretty much asked the same questions as the other programs. They seemed to be pretty heavy on community service.

Does anyone know how realistic it is to get accepted from the waitlist of UCI? Their program is my first choice, sad I didn’t get automatically accepted, but still grateful to be on the waitlist.

Thanks for the info!

Hi not sure if it’s been answered already but chances of being accepted from waitlist are pretty much non existent. They will only look to waitlist if anyone drops out which is highly unlikely. This was told to me last year from the director of UCIs program when I was waitlisted as well.

Someone who got into the program posted above stating how their director sent out an email stating that their cohort has bed finalized (12 students)

Hello, very last minute, for UCR applicants who are submitting their applications tomorrow, or have already submitted their applications. What have most people done for their 3 recommendation letters? I was thinking 1) Dentist whom I've shadowed, 2) Professor, 3) Volunteer work.

I was also wondering when they review my transcripts, would they consider my higher overall GPA for classes that I had to retake and got a higher grade in? Or do they keep both grades in play? Thank you and any last minute input would be amazing!

For my LORs I did: a Family Med doctor I shadowed, a UCR professor, and the Founder and CEO of the nonprofit I work/volunteer at. So I think your list of 3 are good as well.

Im not sure what they would do for your GPA.

That’s strange, I submitted my application before the deadline, but haven’t heard back from UCI yet.. I contacted the central office just to make sure they didn’t overlook anything, and they said they couldn’t tell me much other than I was still in the screening process. I figured no news was good news, but now I’m not so sure lol. Have all applicants been notified?

Just a quick follow up: I contacted them regarding this and was quickly sent a denial letter. It’s a bit upsetting, but also a relief to finally know. I’m really looking forward to hear back from Davis and San Francisco.

For the UCR app, does anyone know if you get an email conformation for when they receive your LORs and transcripts?

I haven't gotten any confirmation for my LORs. I got a confirmation from my school's online transcript portal telling me that UCR downloaded/received my transcripts.

One of my letter writers told me that UCR emailed them back confirming they received their letter, but another letter writer said she did not hear back from them. I'm sure everything is fine.. good luck!

Are you guys reapplicants and applying to UCR? I'm a first-time applicant. Do we need to upload a resume as well or is the application enough?

Nvm I just checked back on the program website and it doesn't say that a resume/cv is part of the required documents. Although I'm a little paranoid...is there anyone who is a first-time applicant. When you submitted your app (for UCR), are you still prompted to upload supporting documents?

Yeah.. I'm confused as well as it says that it is still missing documents !

You didn't get the email about the UCSD waitlist? The email said, "Unfortunately, we won’t be interviewing anyone from the waitlist this year. It was an extremely competitive cycle, and we did not anticipate as many applications and interviews which were the result...."

Yay glad your interview went well! How did you prepare for it? Also, how did it seem they were heavy on community service?

Is there anyone who hasn't heard from UCD or UCSF yet? I was hoping to get atleast a primary interview from Davis by now :/

When I interviewed April 1st, there were 8 of us who interviewed. Four of us got in but only two accepted the offer. The next group is on the 22nd. I believe it will be another group of 8 or 9. With that being said, UCD usually tries to have a cohort of about 16-20 so there is a good chance that they might send out more interviews!! Don't lose hope!!

SAME! thats why I'm concerned, but I know for a fact all my LORs were sent and that they received my transcripts

Yes everything should be in, but let's just hope that's enough! I know that they are sending that the LOR have received a follow up email to them.

Also, I heard from the program that we should be expecting a response in May/June for interviews/acceptances!

For UCR applicants, I called them about our “missing documents” and they said they are backed up with uploading them but as long as we submitted our application on time, they are moving forward with the review process and documents will be updated as they get to it. Basically everything I was told. So we’re all good!

Do you know if there’s still hope if you had your primary interview but haven’t heard back?

Wow congrats to everyone for the acceptances! But I'm really worried now since UCD and UCSF are the only two schools that have yet to give out rejections...does that mean everyone that hasn't heard back by the end of this month is out of the running?

I just got an e-mail today from UCLA asking to input my transcript into an excel sheet for GPA calculations and then to email it back to them. Anyone else get this?
