UF 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hoping they send out more interview invites, cause it seems like everything sent after 11:11 has been a rejection šŸ˜…

Bummer, I've heard that fewer schools are doing them. I don't remember my UF file review being particularly helpful when they rejected me, but my Illinois one was. It would still be worth reaching out to all schools that have rejected you and seeing what info you can glean.

If you don't end up with anything this cycle and want to apply again, let me know and I can offer you more specific suggestions offline šŸ™‚
Schools seem to be discouraging students from doing this. I emailed Illinois and got back a generic ā€œthere was a lot of applicants this cycleā€ email.

I hate to say this but this is my last cycle. This industry clearly does not want me, regardless of the many years I have spent working to show I’m worth it.

I got an IS interview and I’m a UF undergrad. Everything comes down to what seats they need to fill, what specialities everyone applying seems interested in, and how they think your application fits into the student profile they are building. The doctors I’ve worked with have all told me time and time again that there is very little true rhyme or reason to the admissions process especially when everyone is qualified as far as GPA and hours go.

For anyone feeling down, I didn’t get an interview for UF (OOS) last year and it was my first school to hear back from. I ended up getting into 5 other US schools, so don’t let it ruin your perception of your chances.

So do we think there will be another round of emails today? And I’m wondering if that will include rejections or not.

I have no clue UF has never done things like this before and no one knows what’s going on 😭
This happened last year with like 2 schools, CSU specifically comes to mind, where a large batch of students never received their rejection letters in their email. The school was basically like sorry they were all sent out idk why you didn’t get itšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø. Could be a similar situation where the system malfunctioned? I’d email to confirm bc usually things aren’t sent out over a span of multiple days

Yeah last year I got my rejection at the same time every one got their email. UF has also never sent things out this late before. I can’t imagine them intentionally sending out emails at 3 am but who knows.

Other schools as well. My letters are from board certified doctors and professors from my masters. The most controversial thing about me is my explanation statement, which goes into details about how my dad did not initially support me being LGBT, which resulted in him withdrawing financially support during a year which resulted in a few B-ā€˜s and a C because I had to find a job and work long hours to support myself.

Not saying this was the reason for you, Turtle, but I also had circumstances that affected my grades in a few terms during my undergrad. Last cycle when I applied to a few schools, I didn’t get any interviews. I ended up ā€œtoning downā€ my explanation statement and focusing on accomplishments after the fact to showcase my resiliency. I also boosted my GPA to the ā€œcompetitiveā€ range, and now I’m getting interviews. I read in a med school forum that some people can harbor implicit bias against certain topics even if they rightfully should go in an explanation statement. I also found out that an LOR was average (surprisingly) so I switched up my letter writers. And one school wanted paid work experience outside vet med. I think you applied to a school that does file reviews so you should utilize it, especially if you haven’t done that before

IS rejection. You and me both. I have found 3 people’s stats who got interviews and their stats are less than mine in terms of GPA and experience…. I hate it here
Exactly! Like I’m not trying to be butt hurt or feel more deserving. I just honestly don’t get what vet schools want now a days. I fit the competitive applicant for most school however here i am with 2 denials and on waitlist. So was just hoping for more info from those that were lucky and got an interview. Which I’m happy for those that did get interviews and only wish the best for those ☻

I don't get it. I haven't heard anything and my portal hasn't changed. I'm sooo confused. Oh, and my last name is Aguilar so it can't be by alphabet.

thank you for saying this because this just made me feel a lot better! cried myself to sleep after getting that rejection from UF this morning because i thought it was setting the tone for this cycle.

Maybe we'll hear something tonight. I did submit mine on the deadline so maybe it's by date, but more than likely I'm 1,000% just hoping that's the case

Wait this makes sense, I sent mine close to the deadline. To the people who got an email around what time did you submit?

IS and still no email. I submitted my app on the 16th and my last name begins with C. Not to be pessimistic but I feel like they would've sent something already. On to the next school b/c this day has been so stressful and I'm sick of refreshing my mailbox. šŸ™

I submitted the day before for UF but had already been verified like a week prior for a few other schools. I emailed admissions and crickets…. So maybe it’s another wave tonight.

I got my rejection email at 11:59 pm and saw it at 2am and could not sleep after that. I interviewed last cycle and did a file review after getting rejected. I honestly was hoping to get another interview. I don’t understand their process and dont think I ever will. I have two graduate degrees but I guess they want something different than what I could offer. I think this is the end of this dream for me, best of luck to everyone!

Awe, I'm so so sorry. I have no doubt you have incredible attributes to offer this world. Life is strange; sometimes, one door closes because 100 others are waiting to be opened. I wish you nothing but the best šŸ’“

I saw some of you mentioned a portal for UF... What portal are you guys talking about? The only portal I know of is the ONE UF portal for the professional application which has updates on residency status and the supplemental application submission. Is that the one you're referring to, or is there something else I'm missing?

Also, do we know if UF wants us to send them our unofficial fall transcripts after this semester is over?

Thanks!

That's the portal we're talking about! I'm pretty sure if you have outstanding prereq courses you're supposed to send them, but maybe verify with someone else šŸ™‚

I recieved an email back and they said my application is still under review.
I read a post on Reddit that an applicant called and they told them that they weren’t sending any more emails out and that they never send emails in waves. That they had sent out all the emails and they have received multiple people calling about their applications. He said it didn’t sound encouraging and that claimed they were going to look into it.

Yeah, I saw the Reddit you're talking about, but the person who is saying people should assume rejections was blatantly rejected. I don't really know what to believe since a lot of things have been said without solid ground. I think our portals would change if something happened. I don't think they are allowed to leave us hanging.

This happened with schools last year and they indeed did leave people hanging. Their system probably malfunctioned and they don’t know what people didn’t receive their emails so they can’t adequately contact them. If you received nothing it is most likely a mistake and you should reach out to the school for clarification.

Unless there’s something I’m missing about the portal, it doesn’t update status.

IS interview here, can confirm the portal doesn't update status, at least it hasn't for me. Interestingly, my portal still says undetermined for my in state residency, but the email I got said they confirmed it, so I don't think the portal updates until final decisions in February, but I could be wrong.

It was a system malfunction. I have a friend that is a current fourth year there. They were told that the glitch was fixed and all emails have been sent. I let her know that there are multiple people that have not received anything. And she emailed one of the doctors that’s on the admissions committee to let them know that there were still people out there hanging. She said she would get back to me and let me know what they said. But I’m gonna call tomorrow.

If at this point you have not heard from UF I would absolutely call admissions and let them know. We’ve moved into preparing for interviews at this point.
I’ve also garnered a bit more information for those who sought more insight on how cuts were made for interviews. There was an internal GPA cut this year, at this point I don’t know what it was (in the past it’s been around 3.5). Around 15 applicants who did not make that cut were offered interviews anyways due to their packet (they added these interviews as extra). The video question was immensely important in selecting candidates based on how they conducted themselves.

Thank you for letting us know! Out of curiosity-will the extra 15 people be on the same playing field/considered the same as the other applicants even if their gpas were lower?

Do you know if the cutoff is overall undergraduate, overall including graduate, science, etc.? I am below the cutoff for some GPAs and above for others. Trying to figure out if I'm one of the 15 lol.

I’m not sure but I believe overall. Even if you were, you were selected for a reason and you should be proud of that.

wdym due to their packet?

Is the application basically to get you to the interview and then decisions are made off the interview? It feels like the 15 would have a big hole to climb out of otherwise.

That’s from their website for candidate selection. The interview and packet review weight almost the same.

I believe everything is still considered, but I’m unsure at this point. At the end of the day I don’t know much as a student, I just share information I know to be correct to be helpful to those looking for further insight on decisions. Our next meeting for interview training is the first week of January.

Well, thank you for the info. I do appreciate it. I am unquestionably a member of the 15. šŸ˜† That is both terrifying and cool. I guess.
