UF 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

To the current UF students, when are we supposed to apply for housing? I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about that until like June 😂
Apartments start leasing like a year in advance here, so people start applying in September, which is insane, but you should be okay to find housing if you start looking now for places you might like, and then once you hear back from UF you apply. Realistically, you could definitely find housing in July and even August, it might just not be your top choice.

Thanks I appreciate your response! Happy I learned about that now and not in June 😂😂

Follow up question: Does anyone have experience with housing/dorms through UF? What are pros/cons of renting independently vs living at the UF graduate housing?

I didn’t start looking until after I was accepted so like early April for my class and there was still plenty of availability

I don't have any experience with either since I applied this cycle but according to the website grad housing has a wait of at least a year

Had a friend in another graduate program living in graduate housing. That lasted about 1 year because it was … scary. But that’s just one place and my only experience.

Did they elaborate on what they meant by scary?

For non-admitted people: did anyone get an email for gator champs? Just wondering if it’s something worth doing?

I may have missed this on another post, but does anyone know when acceptances/rejections are coming? Thank you!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to jump on this forum since you guys are the only ones who can understand. I find that every moment that I'm not actively doing something, my brain goes to this interview. My first initial feeling after the interview was that it went great. As time goes on, I get more and more anxious and am afraid of failing again (second year applicant). I want this so bad.

During my interview, one of the DVMs invited me to find her email on the UF website and email her if I had additional questions about the program. Last year, they gave us an email to send all thank you messages toward. Well, since that wasn't done this year I decided to email the DVM that told me to find her email on the UF website and thank her that way. She hasn't responded and it's been about 1 week and I am really scared that I may have overstepped? Any thoughts on this? Or is anyone else dealing with some anxiety about all of this? How are you handling it?

If she told you to do this, I don’t think you overstepped. I will say a lot of faculty can be a pain to reach over email (when they’re not teaching a course), especially when they’re off of clinics.

As someone who interviews applicants for externship programs, if you send me an email and said thank you and didn’t ask any questions, I absolutely wouldn’t reply to a simple thank you email. What would you want them to say? Thanks for your thanks? I suppose maybe they could say “you’re welcome” but is that worth their time? If they did reply do you reply to them again? Like where does it stop? Why can’t you saying thanks be the end? If you asked a specific question, it’s very likely that they just haven’t seen it or not had a chance to reply. I know admissions are super important to you and any person who cares enough to volunteer for an admissions committee has an interest in it, but at the end of the day, most faculty members have hundreds of people wanting/needing their attention and admissions stuff is always going to fall lower down the list than patients, current students, your administrative tasks, research needs, etc. People care, but there are only so many hours in the day, and sometimes certain things have to give.

Does anyone have an idea when we will hear any news? Just feeling super anxious today!!
Hi! I feel you about the anxiety! During my interview they said decisions would be going out toward the end of this month, but they didn't give a specific date. My gut is telling me that maybe the decisions will go out on February 20th (no reasoning why, just a weird feeling), so I'm hoping we will know within the next 2 weeks!

I feel like every time im not actively doing something, all I can think about is the interview/vet school admissions. Is this the same for you or anyone else?

Same here! I am doing my best to schedule something every day this month (appts, hanging out with friends, solo adventures) just to keep my mind off of things and to have things to look forward to even if I don't get in. 😊

In the same boat as all of you. I’m trying to let myself enjoy the blissful ignorance but it’s pretty hard to do that. I started a new job and I do three 12-hour days in a row and these four day weekends WOULD be awesome but I feel like the time off leaves me with nothing to do but spiral.

My spidey senses are also telling me around the 20th!!! I did look at the thread from last year and it took something like 3.5 weeks after the last interview.
It’s funny though, it feels like business hours are out the window this year. I have received PLENTY of emails outside of the hours of 9-5. So, we may get a curveball with that.
Didn’t interview invites for UF come out at like 4 am this year lol?

Lol true! I got mine at 11:11 pm.

Does anyone know if UF has an accepted student day (this is thinking positive and assuming we are all getting accepted soon!).

Hi guys! Just checking in to say hello, the anticipation is DRIVING ME CRAZY. Can't help but feel like my interview went well last month but also do not want to jinx myself or get my hopes up too high. Hope everyone is hanging in there. Only about 2 ish more weeks or so until we know!

I can relate. I am worried my hopes ARE too high. I used to have more of a “I will take any school” mindset, and I mean, I still do. But, now that UF actually feels within my reach because I got this interview… it’s just changed things for me. I want this sooo bad and I want it to be UF. I know we all do!
ETA: I have no acceptances elsewhere so far. So far, rejected from all other options except LMU waitlist and awaiting UGA. So, it’s pretty much UF or bust I am thinking. I told myself if it doesn’t work out for me this cycle I will open myself up to the island schools but I just feel differently now. I really don’t even know how I feel about LMU so far. I am dreaming for UF.

It is crazy how much my mindset has changed after actually going through the cycle. I wasn't even that interested in UF before besides it being my in-state because I had somewhat delusional dreams about my top schools. Then I got my interview (and rejections from said dream schools) and feel incredibly passionate about UF. I want it. SO BAD. As I'm sure everyone, like you said, does. I love living in a fantasy world that I might get in so the actual letter coming in scares me but I'm ready to know.

BTW does anyone know if it comes in as an email with the decision or one of those "your portal has been updated" alerts?

You will get a full email notifying you of your admissions status (accept, waitlist, declined).

Wonderful so for all I know I will be sitting on my couch, deep into an episode of Lost when I receive a gmail notif and read either "we regret to inform you" or "congratulations!" from UF

I am so scared that it’s going to happen while I am in public because either way I am going to completely crash out

Apparently UTK and UGA are expecting decisions by the end of the week—wonder if we can expect the same

Is anyone else feeling maybe tonight? 😩
I’ve always thought that if they could send it on a Monday, they could’ve sent it the previous Friday. But who knows… after the 11:11pm interview emails we can’t expect anything at alllllll

This Friday marks the 4 week mark since the last interviews right?

Yes, it does! It took about that long last year, looking at the forums but also I believe there were a significant amount more interviews so maybe next week is more likely? Either way I have been spiraling WORSE than before which I did not think was possible
