OMG. I knew we probably wouldn't hear anything today, but I feel like I'm going to explode. UF will be the first of the schools I hear from post interview and it is the one I like the most. So, good news would make my life fantastic!
 
Considering I just broke up with my BF of 4 years yesterday and moved out this morning, a rejection would be DEVASTATING right now! :boom:
I really really need all of you UF Gods to help me! 😀

I broke up with my 5 year BF about 2 weeks ago after a "what we see in our future discussion", in which he said if I got into vet school our relationship would be over. I need this to be able to tell him to F-off one more time. :meanie:

Can either Bearby or Chinola answer some questions for me if you get a chance?

-Do you have tutoring services available to students?
-Is there a list of current clubs anywhere? All it says on the website is that there are lots of them 😉
-When do clubs meet? It looks like the lunch period changes depending on the day, so I don't know if that would make sense to use consistently.

I literally have no clue what I learned in pathology today because I just stared at my inbox the entire time. Cannot. Deal. With. Waiting.
 
Just as a reminder, Jonathan told our group (although he also told our group the 14th and 15th lol) that he would be sending them in batches throughout the day. So as HARD as it is to NOT freak out, don't think its all over if people start hearing now and you don't hear for a few hours... 😱

Even as I wrote that ^^ I was laughing at myself... "yeah right, like you aren't gonna be a total nut job" 😉
 
I got my Interview email at 1:50pm hope news comes earlier today.

My girlfriend is giving me the same crap. We're still together though. Although we'll see what happens as soon as UF sends me the e-mail I'm waiting for!!!!

Tutoring services: Not sponsored through the school or anything (that I know of) but you can usually find classmates who are able to help you if you are having trouble.

Clubs: There are a lot of them and there used to be a website that had a list of them with links to their websites, but they JUST redid the school's site and now I can't find anything. Here's a list of some of them that I can think of off the top of my head:
-Aquatic Animal Club - for the fish and marine mammal peeps
-Food Animal Club - for the cow lovers
-SCAAEP - Equine stuff
-PAWS - non-profit clinic
-Canine Club - woof
-Feline Club - meow
-Pathology Club - dead things
-Zoo Med Club - lions and tigers and bears oh my!
-Behavior Club - to attack or not to attack
-International Health Club - hola
-AAHA - small animal practice stuff
-Internal Medicine Club - insides
-SCAVMA - good food, generally boring meetings. gotta go to stay active

There are more, I'm sure, but I can't think of them right now. Most of them meet in the evenings at like 5 or 6 and have food out half an hour before the meeting actually starts. During lunches there are sometimes gross rounds for path, internal medicine, zoo med, etc...but they're just short case discussions.

Thanks so much Bearby! Just curious--is there a shelter med club (I would assume so since UF is so big on shelter med!)?


Also, how do you like UF? Anything that really irks you? Do you feel like you're getting a good education?

There is, I just forgot. I'm telling you, there are more clubs than you could ever need. The certificate program is a great way to get involved in shelter med and get a lot of practice doing spays and neuters prior to graduation.

I like UF, there are people who are on both ends of the spectrum. Some people love the school some people hate it. I'm middle of the road, I guess. I really like that there's so much to do within the school. You can be as involved as you want to be. There are clinics that you can take part in, palpation labs pretty often, other really cool wet labs, etc. Not to mention the stuff unrelated to school. Our class has parties and/or bar trips pretty often. There was a kick [butt] scavenger hunt at the beginning of the year. Some of the faculty (read: Dr. Stone, Dr. Farina, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Abbott) are super awesome! The thing that has been irking my class the most (it doesn't bother me very much anymore) is that the schedule changes a lot. We get e-mails fairly often about classes being moved around, taking place in a different location, exams being moved up then back then up again...and then back. The new associate dean, Dr. Ginn, is apparently going to try to work on this because she knows that it's frustrating.

As far as the education, I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I feel like it's relatively good. We do all the normal first year so it's pretty boring and a lot of the lecturers just read off of their powerpoints so that's kind of obnoxious because I know how to read. I'm most excited about entering into clinics after 2nd year so I can get an idea of what I want to do before going in the classroom and "tracking."

I'm IS, interviewed on 2/4, and my last name starts with P... I'll probably find out last UGH
 
got in. interviewed 2/4 and last name starts with a V. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason with how they are sending out invites. Best of luck to those still waiting to hear back.

I know this sounds rather annoying coming from someone accepted, but don't lose hope yet, there is a LOOOONNNG way to go still! And you made the GD waitlist 😉 so you should be very proud! Hang in there!

I believe GD is a blasphemy that we all feel like saying when placed on a wait list. Still waiting to hear. 🙂

I just called there are 25 and they typically go through 15. And no they wont tell you number.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I WAS ACCEPTED TOO!!!! 🙂 UF is my top choice so i'm sooooo excited!!! I got my email at 12:02 and I'm OOS with last name starting with K. hope everyone else has good news too!! woooo hoooo!!!

I was waitlisted as well. I wish I could know my number so I could see my chances. I am curious the timeframe those offered a position off the waitlist, whether it was a few months after notifications went out or just before the start of school. My number two choice is across the country and I will need time to get an apartment there etc so I couldnt wait until a few weeks before the start of school to give up hope on UF and start preparing to move to my number two choice. In addition, I would have to take animal science to go to UF. I am not sure if I should wait a few months and see if I get a call or take it now with the chance it was for nothing.

Jonathan said during a debriefing that I sat in on that if any OOS students were waitlisted and were having to choose between going to UF and going to another school that they were already accepted to, that he might be able to tell you your chances of getting off the waitlist. He doesn't like ranking, but...he understands the situation that people are in and will try to be as helpful as possible. I would wait until April before you call him though because you may get accepted before then and if not, you'll still have plenty of time to look for places either in Gainesville or elsewhere.


PS...Congrats to everyone who got good news today!!! I'm super excited to get to know all of you!!

I know, but I would need to start getting moving on Ohio pretty soon (a lot of housing gets snatched up early), so I'm not sure whether to wait or to commit to OSU and start looking for apartments. *sigh*

This is true, and I don't mean to sound insensitive. But I think UF was my #1.
