Hey, I figured I'd start this thread! Just peeked at the new VMCAS essays for UF... and one of them includes a video essay. 😵 Thoughts?? LOL

hey there! I am honestly so excited for a video essay because I am able to express myself so much better than through words on a computer screen.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew if UF is requiring a CASPer test this cycle? I don't remember reading anything about it on the Programs page in VMCAS and I'm reading over their website now to confirm, but I thought I'd ask on here in case you guys caught something I miss. Thanks!

Ok so I actually found this on their website, at the bottom of the "Admissions Criteria" page:

So to my understanding, we don't have to worry about the CASPer test right now, only when we get invited to an interview?
 
If the advisor says dont apply, get a second opinion. Theres a few of us in my class who were told we should not apply. Also poke me if you have questions. I might be able to answer.

I think so. I took it anyway since both Kansas and Michigan wanted it before September 15th and included Florida in that since I don't wanna take it twice
 
Last cycle, UF sent out a free code for students to take the CASPer exam if they hadn't taken it already, but those that took it for other schools got a free code to send it to UF (they didn't have to retake it). But I think that was because UF made a last-minute decision to make it part of the final selection process.

I believe we hear back with interview invites in late December 👍🏼 They had sent an email out with a general timeline as well, it was sometime in September I think.

Does anyone notice any views on your video? I got three so far. I'm assuming that means my grades were in the threshold to have been further reviewed? (purely guessing I'm not sure if I was further reviewed or not).

I only have one view from a month ago. Maybe that’s bad?! It means you have other people watching your video and I do not (assuming you made it private).

I only have 1 and for the life of me I can't remember if that view is from me rewatching it after I uploaded it or if that's from the UF admissions committee.

If you didn’t mark it as private people can find it with the title. Look up “UF application” and you’ll find some other applicant videos.

according to analytics, someone viewed it on October 31st and November 6th. other than that nobody has seen it other than me too obviously. I'm assuming 2 people from admissions viewed mine. Just a guess tho cuz I couldn't find it on youtube when I looked it up.

I looked at the average view duration and it was literally 57 seconds like bro what💀
 
Mine was viewed twice. LMAO It's like stalking admission. I'll give my info so yall can do what you will. I'm OSS btw. Mine were viewed on nov 20 and nov 23 average view was 1:18 and my video was 1:19.

Has anybody submitted the SSAR part of the UF application? I just saw it today and saw the deadline was yesterday, but I’m not sure how we are supposed to get our exact high school course codes and grades?

Last year they sent them out on December 17! so if they stick to the same schedule probably sometime next week but they said in an email in November they'd send it out mid-to-late December so honestly who knows
 
Anybody else have no views on their video submission? I'm afraid I might be getting a rejection, speculating I did not make the gpa cutoff so I didn't get a file review. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

I don’t think you’re over thinking it. I have no views either and it’s probably a good indication no one even read my app. Again.
 
My video has two views, one on November 10th and then one on the 16th. Not sure what exactly that means though and if it necessarily means it was someone from admissions.
 
The average view time on my video is 11 seconds which I think is just from me watching it over again. I think I'll get a rejection based on gpa.

I have heard they are more concerned with science and last 40 than cumulative. Do you really think you'll get a rejection based on GPA? 🙁

Most likely, I had about 3 C+ in the last 45, and had retaken a class I got a C in during it which lowered my gpa considerably. I was rejected from Michigan St. my in state for gpa reasons since I have more than enough experience and extracurriculars. If I even get an interview it will be a miracle, but I’m hoping my interest for the MPH program will help.

The woman who runs that instagram (or at least was in the video) seems so nice! definitely calmed my nerves a bit even though I'm anxiously waiting for emails
 
If you have questions please direct them to the admissions specialists. Alex Avelino is the advisor however I will be truthful and say there are a good number of students in my class that she told not to apply and they did anyways. Including myself.

I will say my overall was a 3.1 with an in person master's last 45 was 3.8 with a 2.8 science ( why Avelino said don't apply) and had over 3500 vet hours. It's a combo and it's really based on applicants. I do know if you are in a master's or degree program they do not like to take you until it is done.

Last year folks heard around end of December and we heard late Dec early Jan. Realistically we go on break on the 23rd and come back around January 4th so anytime before or after then is game. I'll see if I can ask the admissions specialists tomorrow after class.

Spoiler alert. After interview invites are out GPA doesn't matter. With my GPA I got into MSU, wait-list accepted ( would probably be taken off and accepted ) at ISU and CSU but UF Is cheaper.

Invest in a good scooter or bike we have no parking especially with class increase your year. 120 ( 2024), 130 ( 2025) I believe you're supposed to be 140 or 160. Unless Jesus comes back and starts doing the fish and bread thing with parking and class seating I have no idea what's going to happen.

So after interviews are sent out decisions are based solely on the interview? Like our application doesn't matter anymore? I know thats how VMCVM does it but wasn't sure about UF
