haven't checked mail yet today but im hopin i hear back at least from stratford. this waitin is killing me... =(
hey everyone!
I've been secretly stalking this thread and just got my acceptance letter to Newark on Saturday. I figured I wanted to know who was getting in when I was waiting to hear so I thought I'd let you guys know. I received my "complete" letter on March 13th and my acceptance letter was dated March 26th (I currently live in Chicago but am technically an NJ resident). I will be attending the program, so I can't wait to meet everyone else who's going there! I had a 3.3 cum gpa, and 3.0 science gpa from Northwestern; 30P MCAT. Good luck to everyone else... I whole-heartedly feel your pain!!
alright so i called both stratford and newark this morning. stratford said it has already been sent to the review board and i should hear back within two weeks. Newark said that they should hopefully be reviewing today and I will be hearing back within a week. It's crunch time now. Fingers crossed
congrats to all those who are receiving their acceptance letters and good luck to all those still waiting. =)
I am getting confused...
Why is this thread under Postbaccalaureate Programs?
Yes, the program at Rutgers is for those who don't have med school prereqs, but for all the other ppl with prereqs, they have their own reasons as to why they want to apply to UMDNJ's master's program. Perhaps they want to get into an in-state school (bc UMDNJ looks favorably upon its grad students), save money, raise GPA to apply to other schools not necessarily UMDNJ, or some of us just have a lag year and dont wanna work...etc!It seems like everyone in here is apply to the UMDNJ 1 year Biomedical Science MS degree if I am not mistaken. I thought Postbaccalaureate Program is for those students that have BA but lack premed courses. I know Rutgers University (Central) has Postbaccalaureate Program where if you do your premed at Rutgers and is above 3.5 and MCAT like 30ish (?), you are guarantee an interview with UMDNJ's medical school (NJMS, RJWMS). Thats sweet but its through Rutgers University.
If you guys already have a BA/BS in sciences, wouldnt it be better to apply to somewhere else like Loyola where if I am not mistaken, its 1 year MS degree and if GPA higher than x and MCAT higher than x, you are automatically in for their medical school. Drexel have something similar too.
Its been a while since I was once interested in Postbaccalaurate Premedical Programs and Biomedical Science in MS (1-year).

Hey Jxc, congraduation to your acceptance to Rutgers/UMDNJ. Is it a MS program you got into?
Hey guys, hope all is well, just thought I'd drop in and let you know about the MGM stuff!
I emailed the program last week about the MGM courses at the GSBS and they said that selection for that program is highly competitive. They base their decision on a variety of factors including desire of the student to pursue a career in medicine and academic standing, ie GPA and MCAT scores. They also told me that if you express interest in medicine and accept their offer quickly you are automatically given a spot in the applicant pool for that program. Once they have accepted the entire class for fall 2009, an admissions committee meets up and looks at all eligible applicants for the MGM core. Then they select the students based on the aforementioned criteria and notify them via email before orientation in August.
I am hoping that I can take the MGM core, it would look really good on a med school app!
As for now I am trying to get my email account set up with UMDNJ, there was some miscommunication and I am having some issues with it. There is also a mountain of medical forms that I have yet to fill out. I'm in the middle of midterms and studying for the MCATs so that's one more thing on my to-do list!
Some courses she advised would be good for allopathic which will be given this fall:
Histology
Fund. of Pharmacology
Viruses, cells and disease - very hard virology
Stem cell bio and applications in modern medicine
She also said you may want to avoid special interest classes like Bioterrorism when applying to MD.
So for the MGM course, I know it is a core of 8 credits, but what courses are associated with that particular core, ie what courses compose the 8 credits, and do you take special medschool-esque electives like histo?
Hi guys,
Anyone having trouble setting up their account on https://startup.umdnj.edu/ ?
When I try to put set up my password it says "no non alphanumeric characters allowed" but I'm not entering any facking non a-n characters!!
got my stratford acceptance today but as a non matriculated student. not that it really matters anyway. either way that's one less concern now but I was always more concerned with Newark. Hopefully I get an acceptance there. =/

You can try to the housing directly with the school, you can live in the little townhouses in Society Hill..or try housing at this place down the block that is pretty cool..University Centre 250 Central Avenue..
univcentre.com, def check out all these places..and of course at UMDNJ there are always postings for apartments for rent.
dr. chuck, i will be withdrawing from stratford as well. hopefully that improves your chances of getting in there since you wanna go there haha.
as for albuterol, congrats man! that's two pre-dents now. we're gonna be best buds next year haha. work together to get into umdnj dental together! =) see you guys during orientation!
for all those still waitin, good luck guys! hope to see everyone on this thread getting their acceptance letters soon and joining us next year.
Univ. Centre is mad expensive! My brother goes to NJIT and lives in Newark and if I attend I'll live with him. 3 bedroom nice apartment in a decent-ish area for $1800. $600 each plus utilities with off-street parking & laundry hookups is pretty good.
Oh and Kudos to everyone on their acceptance!
damn sorry man. if it makes you feel better, stratford accepted me as a non-matriculated student cuz my application wasn't "competitive" enough but i was accepted at newark as matriculated. So from my experience, Stratford seems to be more selective than Newark. And if i'm not mistaken, Stratford's class size is smaller than newark. That being the case as well as you having applied early, I think you still have a fairly decent shot of getting into Newark. What were your stats if you don't mind me asking? Because my GPA was pretty damn low and I still miraculously managed to get in haha.
Dr. Chuck I'm sorry to hear that you got rejected from Stratford. Hopefully Newark will bring better news. I have also heard that Stratford is more selective since they only admit 60 in the Fall and 60 in the Spring. Did you apply to any other masters programs besides the 2 umdnj ones? Keep the faith dude...I'm hoping it works out for you!
Sorry to hear it DrChuck, but as the old cliche goes 'one closes another one opens...'
deadline's June 1st for both Stratford and Newark.
