UMHS, St Kitts contacted me and wanted to arrange a meeting at their office (quite a far ride). I haven't even submitted my app yet. If anyone else had similar experiences, then could you please shed some light as to what this meeting would entail?

Wait, in their office? Like at the school or is this an office in the States? Either way it sounds like a sales pitch. (especially considering you haven't submitted an application)

UMHS contacted me today, asking for a meeting. I know you posted your comment several months ago, but could you tell me what came about at your meeting? I am working on my application and haven't sent it out yet, so I was a little confused.

I'm speculating you probably checked or didn't check some box when you signed up for your MCAT and your information was made available to programs that know you're interested in the health professions.

They're assuming that you're a med school applicant and they want to get you to listen to their high pressure sales pitch before you have a chance to get your apps in.

I have been to an UMHS meeting. They asked me to bring my transcript and basically showed me the video about the school, had and informal interview and answered any questions I had. They also gave me a folder with the school's catalog and a dvd of the video. I hope this helps.

Its pretty much an interview with a video presentation tied in. Someone from admissions sits you down in a nice fancy room, shows you a power point and asks you if you'd like to see the video which is on their website.

After the presentation is done the admissions person takes out a pen paper and begins asking you questions. They ask all the basics: strengths, weaknesses, what do you think sets you apart from other applicants, how would your peers describe you and clinical/research/volunteer experience. Its pretty informal, my admissions person called it a 'preliminary interview.' I got accepted 3 working days after meeting with them.

it almost sounds like they're so desperate that they're accepting all who show up to interview...

guess it's not easy being a caribbean startup with no track record.

What are you bumping for? It's a sales pitch to go to their Caribbean school, if you're interested in Caribbean schools you should check out that section. The majority of people here aren't too friendly about those schools...

Horrible school. Here's why: The school is owned by Warren Ross, son of Dr. Ross of Ross Medical School. They sold the school to Devry for millions of dollars, then took that money secretly opened first as a "school of nursing" to avoid a conflict of interest breach in their sale contract and now slowly transition into a Medical School. They currently recruit 90% of their students from Puerto Rico so say you are in an anatomy lab, don't expect to be conversing with your lab partners unless your fluent in Spanish. Even Dr. McCraken, who is actually a good professor had to remind everyone daily to speak in English ! Which they didn't follow of course. The dean Dr. Purcell is a complete and utter joke and probably one of the worst parts of this school period ! Everyone of the staff laughs at him. All he cares about is preparing and doing his Karaoke at Patsy's Bar every Friday because of his delusions of grandeur of being a rock and roll star, very pathetic. They are understaffed so he teaches Histology too, which he is horrible at, worst teacher by far, he's about 80 years old so he spends more time telling you stories about his rock and roll days than actually teaching histology! Dr. Herrick, a good teacher, horrible test maker and he does this with a purpose, behind the scenes owns part of the school. He is known to fail 30-40% of the class in immunology every semester for , you guessed it more profit $$$. They are bringing in about 130 students but have only about 50-60 seats in Maine where they do step prep, THIS IS THE WORST PART; you have students, but not enough clinical rotation spots ,many have to wait MONTHS just for something to open. Please do yourself a favor and RUN FAR AWAY from this school. If your going to go to the Caribbean pick one of the big 4 schools. These schools have been around for much longer and can much better prepare you to take the USMLE and do well in your clinicals . Best of luck to all, hope this review helps you in making the right decision in picking a better, more established school.
