UNECOM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got my offer of acceptance this afternoon! I'm very excited!

It's nice to hear more people getting accepted. This thread has been SO quiet. Congratulations, LLB2MD! Will you be attending?

Thanks Fay8! Yes, this thread has been incredibly silent...it's a bit sad! :-( I am fairly certain we will be classmates, but I am still waiting to hear back from a few other places before committing. I will be very happy to attend. Seems like such a positive and cooperative learning environment. I love it there!😍

Hey all,

I know it's a little early to think about housing, but if anyone has any recommendations for dog-friendly housing in Saco/OOB/nice parts of Biddeford, could you let me know? I'm sure more places will come available on CL, but dog-friendly housing is a little tricky. I'm looking for an affordable 1BR or studio with heat/hw included. I have an 8lb well-behaved, house trained chihuahua that's coming with me. It would be nice to find a place that's not too far away from school, but with grassy areas/parks for the dog.

Thanks,

Fay

Hey guys! Does anyone know how filled the class is/how much longer interviews are going on? I sent my secondary in back in October and haven't heard anything since. Just wondering if I still have a chance 😳 Thanks!

they often interview into March. You still have time. Call them if you have questions - they will have more up to date information than anyone here.

I am almost done with my secondary. Does anybody know how many students they accept?

The class size is 124. Not to discourage you, but it's pretty late in the cycle to be applying. If your app is stellar, go ahead. Otherwise, you may want to consider holding off until June, then sumbit as soon as AACOMAS opens up for the next go around.
Good luck!

It is definitely not too late! People apply until very late into the cycle and get accepted. Go for it!

hey guys congratz to the people who got accepted..i got accepted to nycom its easier since i live close by and so i am withdrawing my appli

Here is a spread sheet that compares match lists, GPA/MCAT scores of matriculates, COMLEX scores, and other types of data. It includes:

-2011-2008 Match lists for many osteopathic schools
- comparison of match results between schools
-GPA/MCAT scores, a profiles of average matriculating students compared between all Osteopathic schools,
-COMLEX scores for some schools
- You'll also find comparison of tuition / graduate indebtedness between schools

https://sites.google.com/site/osteopathicreference/home

(I can't host the spread sheet on the forums because of size limits)

I apologize in advance that I will be mass posting this through out the forums this afternoon but many people have been looking for this data and I want the to be able to find it!

Interview request today for March 1! So excited as this school is definitely my top choice! I applied rather late in the season, so I am definitely very happy about this opportunity. Can't wait!👍

Does anyone know how many interviews (approx) they do each year? Thanks!

Rejected outright, 3.98 GPA, 25 MCAT. Ya kiddin' me?

Good luck to all those waiting to hear back!

Do they email you one way or another or do you just not hear anything back if you have been rejected?

ShyRem,

this is true, although isn't it only a couple points below average for last year's class? It's too cold in Biddeford, anyway!

GenusTide,

They sent me a letter.

Does anyone know the exact matriculation date at UNECOM (based on last year's)?

Got my letter of acceptance (via email) about an hour ago! Will definitely be attending!

Submitted secondary = 02/09
Application complete = 02/13
Interview invite = 02/17
Interview = 03/01
Accepted = 03/07

Can't wait to meet future classmates at Osteoblast!

Me too! Interviewed 2/29 and got my acceptance email today. I was really surprised at how fast the decision came!

What is it like being on the same campus as undergrads?

Somewhat annoying when they insist on using the small rooms in the Alfond center, and they seem to think the med students have everything. But generally you don't deal with them much.

3.59cum, 3.4sci, biology/chemistry double major, english minor, 33Q mcat. Complete 3/12, II 3/23.

Cheers!

Two ways to look at it: 1) it's annoying to share your campus with undergrad kids 2) you wouldn't have things like a gym, pool, athletic fields, etc without an undergrad campus. I'm ok with sharing

Hi all,

Congratulations on the recent acceptances!

I have a question for current students. Does anyone know how the class of 2012 did in the match? In particular, I'm interested in how people did in Mass.

Sorry if this has been answered already...were there any pre-interview rejections sent out from UNECOM or are they a silent rejection school? Haven't heard anything yet and am assuming I can wipe it off the list at this point. Congrats to all who were accepted!

Yes, I remember seeing a couple people on this thread who got a pre-interview rejection. How long since you submitted your app?

See you all this fall!

Me:
3.59cum, 3.4sci, biology/chemistry double major, english minor, 33Q mcat. Two posters at a regional conference, one semester's worth of research. MD and DO letters, DO letter from a 2007 UNECOM grad.

Timeline:
AACOMAS verified 2/6/2012.
Suplemental offered 2/16/2012.
Supplemental received 2/28/2012.
Application complete 3/12/12.
Interview invite 3/23/12.
Interviewed 4/11/2012.
Accepted 4/30/2012.

good luck to all those still waiting, if you exist, or those lurking this thread for the upcoming cycle!

congratulations, are you male or female? it appears that the percentage of female students is much greater than males.

I'm a guy. I'm also OOS (western mass represent), which isn't relevant, but might be useful to consider.

Just withdrew my acceptance. Hope it goes to one of you guys!

Thinking of applying in a year to this school.

I love everything about it. This is my dream school.

Will a 3.4 cgpa and 3.7 sgpa be enough for this school? URM and disadvantaged.

Did anyone else get this email?

The world of medical school admissions can best be described by one word: dynamic. Things evolve over time and we want to be prepared for any possibility, so we've decided to invite a select number of applicants to campus for an interview.

We have set aside some time within the next four weeks to conduct interviews. I'd ask that you please let me know no later than Thursday, June 7th if you'd like to visit campus for a personal interview; right now we are looking at mid-week days. We can then decide on a mutually convenient date and time. Additionally, applicants who are found to be acceptable, but who are not offered acceptance into the August 2012 entering class (due to space limitations), will be offered the opportunity to have their acceptance automatically carried over to the August 2013 entering class.

UNECOM was in my top three, so I'm pretty excited that they want to interview, though I am already attending another medical school, so I won't be attending the interview.

I got the same email. I am also already enrolled at another school but I might want to see what they have to offer. Any advice about the school anyone? Would someone born and raised in FL survive in Maine? Thoughts?

Just withdrew from UNECOM to go to elsewhere, so there are still spots open. Best of luck to everyone! (I'm trying to find someone to take my maine apt for my landlord, so if anyone is accepted/looking for housing, please message me!)

Just accepted to UNE-COM yesterday. I am looking for a roommate/ place to live. Please send me a message if you're interested.

Thanks!

Just withdrew my acceptance. Hope it goes to someone who really deserves it and has been waiting for it.
