University of California San Francisco Application Thread

How do you know where I live, what I do or do not attend, and what I am affiliated with ?
Surely you do not think that the world at UCSF is rotating around its pharmacy school. Or maybe, you do. Then, we have to deal with the clinical aspects of such a viewpoint.
Most of my time nowadays I spend in Berkeley, but I own a house in SF.
Actually, what is trolling ? Is it anything that you do not like ? Is this a reflection of the "professional" state of mind that Mary Anne is instilling in her students ?

You sound very bitter with UCSF while you were attending UCSF, but keep in mind most of UCSF SOP students go through their rigorous training and become stellar pharmacists in the field at the end.

You are a loser who could not pass that training and who could not endure cut-throat competitive atmosphere. Getting into UCSF SOP is great, but that does not mean UCSF can take care of everything! You are still responsible to be the best in the field and my classmates at UCSF SOP are some of the most hardworking PharmD students in the world and I am very proud of that I am one of them 🙂.

anyone feeling the pain of waiting? 🙁

we have to catch up to last year's thread, they were already up to page 6 by this time 😉

Yes. I feel your pain. 🙁
I know we won't hear anything until Mar/April, I don't know why I am so nervous checking mails! 🙁

:xf:I guess waiting is the hardest part!

When did you interview? I did 2/5, maybe we passed each other. I am secretly hoping that they start sending out decisions next week. 😀

I am definitely feeling the pain too. 🙁
I wish March would come sooner!
:xf:Good luck to all of us who are anxiously waiting!!:xf:

Haha mine was on the 1/28. So I have been secretly hoping for a while hahahaha!
I have been trying to keep myself busy and not think about the results, but it's really hard not to...🙁((

Bruin, I probably passed by you on the 28th? Mine was at 11:30.

yey to solidarity amongst the waiters ! 😀

I hope we all get good news. I keep trying to remind myself that I can't change my fate now and I shouldn't worry about it anymore.

good luck to everyone! :luck:

Probably! Mine was at 11:30 as well. We might have even been in the same group. It's so hard to tell who's who from sdn 😛 I was one of the many Asian girls interviewing there

I'm still holding on to that small hope that maybe if we interviewed earlier we'll find out earlier :luck: (even though Joel says your interview session doesn't determine when you hear)

I hear you guys! It was nice to have the first interview date but that also means we have to wait the longest!

I also had the 11:30 time slot....I was in the green group. Hopefully we will hear by mid March!

Does anyone know the date of the last interview session?

Feb 25th will be the last day of interview.

Bruin, I have been looking at the last year forum, it looks like people who were interviewed on the first day DO hear the earliest...

Just the smallest hope! hahaha I know I can't change my fate at this moment, but still I can't help myself thinking, "oh, I should have said it this way that way, etc..." I NEED TO STOP!

Good luck to all of us! :luck:

Good Luck everyone....I interviewed on the 5th as well (red team)....I know we are not going to hear anything till the end of March but I keep checking my mail everyday anyway.....hahaha!!!!

I was also interviewed on 1/28 at 11:30, i think i was in the green group too (i was in the group that did the student chat room first). so glad to get it out of the way, especially earlier in the day. i think i would have fallen asleep if i was in the last group of the day! my mail is actually going to a different place than my current address so i can't wait for a phone call from family. i'm so impatient that i want it that way so i can find out sooner (since it's closer to ucsf) 😀

do you think chances are slimmier this year? he said they are interviewing 275 people. it is kind of weird that they have classes of exactly 122 or do they just aim for that number?

yea, i keep thinking i should have said a lot of things differently 🙁

what they (i think) do is admit exactly 122 people and then put a bunch of others on a ranked waitlist. If any of the original 122 turn down ucsf then they admit people off the waitlist so that they always have 122 offers out at one time.

but 122 is an interesting/random number to pick for a class size. maybe it's based off a particular classroom size? then our fate (ie how many people they admit) is based off the way an architect laid out a classroom!

calculating percentage of admission - 44.36% ! oh no! Haha...sorry, just being obsessed 😀

Two people declined the interview. So it will be 122/273.

Guys! relax!!! 45% is not bad!

Lets stay positive!

let's round and say a 50/50 shot (esp counting people they'll probably pull off the waitlist). that's up from <10% before you get an interview. so i agree, stay positive and see the glass as half full

👍 Thats what I am talking about!

My friend is applying to med school, and their ratio is 1 out of 6 in the interview process, so compared to that, we have much higher chance to get in! 😀

🙂 lets keep the forum going! this might be able to distract us from waiting! hahaha😉

what can we do to distract ourselves? want to play 20 questions? 👍

Thanks for the info Pathology!

@monkieez, I like your optimism! I must have been in the same group as you. It was nice to have the chatroom first. I think it helped me relax before the interview. Is UCSF your first choice?

I'm interviewing at UCSF next week and I was wondering what do they focus on in the interview? Is it more situational questions or "what if" questions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Good luck on your interview.
Please review the interview feedback on SDN website.
Interviews are all very personalized based on the individual's applications/essay. Some people get what if questions and some people don't.

Yes, I think UCSF did a good job at individualizing the interviews. I know some people who received a lot of situational questions, but mine were more introspective. I think it depends on what you wrote in your secondary essays, as well as what your interviewers want to know about you.

Well said! 🙄 100% agree.

gwenyth! Ohhh that's sad! 🙁 I am allergic to cats (by skin testing) but nothing happens when cats are around me! so I don't know if I am really allergic to cats or not. 😳

I'm supposed to be allergic to pets too, based on a skin test over.. err... ten years ago... but nothing bad happens when I play with the neighborhood cats and dogs. I'm so glad because I love animals!

lol i guess i'm the opposite. never had a skin test, but my eyelids start swelling around cats and i start sneezing and everything. but i've never had any problems with dogs and those corgis are absolutely adorable! i've concluded that cats are evil, they are so durn cute but misleading.

Dogs are more fun to play with! in my personal opinion! 😀

Oh guys, do not get a heart attack or anything, they are sending out Thank you letters after the interview. Mine was postmarked on Feb 11 and just received today. So be aware! 🙂

you are foretelling the future! 😎

I can't stress out anymore, I found a white hair today. Please tell me that I am not graying already! 😱

Just got my thank you letter today, too. How nice of them to send one out 🙂

Just got my "thank you" letter too! yes, ucsf contact! 👍

According to Joel's blog, it seems like this past Friday was the last day of interview. I thought Feb 25 would be the last day...

If the 18th was the last day of interview...we might hear the results sooner? hahaha Just a wishful thought! 😉

You may be on to something! They are done pretty early. I like his new post, it's very inspiring. 😀

Does anyone know on average how mang people usually end up being on the waiting list and how many of them are able to get admitted eventually?

I think the number varies from year to year...there is really no way to predict it.

If it was predictable they would probably accept more than 122 students. since ucsf's competition is the other cali schools, how many they would accept off the wait list depends on other school's admission, like for example how many people get off USC's wait list and rather go there. it's unpredictableness (new word?) dependent on other unpredictable stuff.

i remember checking past year posts...some ppl heard as early as march 6th!! So we might have some notices by next week!

That sounds like an exciting news!
Last year people heard rejections starting on 3/5 and acceptance starting on 3/11...A month of waiting already killed me half way 😛

March starts tomorrow, so good luck everyone! 👍

Man does that mean the rejection letters go out first!!!?? If that's the case, I can wait a little longer. Hehe
