University of Colorado

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OK so I've read several posts on here that say to review the curriculum. what kind of questions about that were asked in the interviews? Also, how many people actually interview you? I've been to an interview at Belmont University, and it was only 1 faculty member, and it was more of a conversation instead of an interrogation. what type of heath care questions were asked as well? Any help would be much appreciated!

They just want to know WHY you want to attend their school, meaning, what about their curriculum stands out to you in a positive way? I wasn't really asked too much about that in my interview but it was a question on the essay portion. Very open ended... so just at least review it before going into it.

I had two interviewers, one faculty and one community pharmacist. Lasted 20 minutes total about... I didn't get any healthcare questions, more ethics questions and then random questions about my life, passion, etc.

would anyone recommend sending thank-yous to the people that interviewed us?

to someone who lives in the general denver area: what are some fun things to do in the area? what all does it have to 'offer'?

I live in Denver, I've lived in CO for over 10 yrs, so i know it quite well.

If you live in CO and take advantage of what it has to offer, you're likely in good shape. So skiiing, boarding, hiking, camping, fishing, biking, rock climbing. we are the out-doorsy sort.

We are also known for our craft beer, if you dont like beer, it's b/c you've never tasted good beer. Fort Collins (50m N of Denver) is our little craft beer capital- home of New Beligium: Fat Tire amber ale? Also, Golden is where Coors is brewed, and there's about 8 breweries around Denver. And home of the Great American Brew Festival.

Denver, in that past decade, has become a majour metropolitan city. So we offer all the generic things of a city of this stature. Majour sport teams: Broncos🙁, Rockies, Nuggets, Avalanche, Rapids, and the Mammoth (lacrosse). Then the arts and theatre sorts, like the CO ballet, and symphony, and many majour shows come through here too (Cavalia, Cirque de solei). Also theme parks like Elitches and Water World. And the Denver zoo and museum of natural history.

There are tons of hot spots for young professionals around town. Wash Park is quite popular come summer, Red Rocks Amphitheatre for concerts, LoDo (aka lower downtown) is where all the bars are.

Denver offers pretty much everything. We also have a weekly magazine the Westword, which is filled with all the happenings of the city that week, and its FREE!

If anyone has Denver questions feel free to give me a shout, I know this place quite well.

I didn't... I don't think it's necessary unless there's some specific reason you feel that you need to thank them personally. A hand shake and a verbal thank you should have been good enough right after the interview in my opinion.

If anyone has been accepted to this school, please let me know so you can be added to the roll call for 2014/2015. Please post in the sticky thread or PM me your acceptances and the program you will be attending (if accepted to multiple schools).🙂

I would consider sending them to the people in your actual interview.

yeah review the curriculum, the email i got from them said to review i before coming

also, im out of state so i may be out of touch with certain laws within the state, like pharmacy. for example, here in Texas, we need triplicate form for schedule II drugs but I have no idea if that is in effect in Colorado. Just a bit worried that they may ask me some ethical/pharmacy-work related question and that I may answer it wrong because we have different laws across states.

or maybe im just being a lil bitch and just nervous right now :scared:

the only ethical question I got was "describe an ethical situation that could happen in a pharmacy" and then they asked what i would do in that situation, so you can set yourself up if you get the same interviewer i had...

Guys, remind me when they let us know about acceptances. I can't keep all of the schools I applied to straight. Did they say a phone call in 2 weeks?

Mine was an email sent about 10 days after. You also get a mini packet with information through mail a few days after the email. :luck:

They said any time between now and the first week of April... It will be sent by email.

That's assuming they actually sent it to the right place. I had to have them email me the forms since mine never arrived.

Well, they just sent it to whatever address I put on my PharmCAS. It's not a very big packet so I guess keep a look out for it.

I was notified of my acceptance via email almost two months after my interview and received the letter about a month after that.

This school is a joke. I know a few students there. If you like working at a grocery store than this school is for you. Get ready to spend countless hours roaming the OTC isles at retail stores. LOL

I am sure you are employee of the month at your local King Soopers.

Nonetheless, you are making a prime example of the saying "misery loves company."

nah

anyways a question i wanted to add. I'm looking into rotations for the school and it isn't very clearly defined on their website. I was curious as to whether some current p students there could clarify.. Are there certain hospitals/medical branches that we are limited to in rotations? I know some schools in Texas such as Ut limit their students to in state hospital rotations. Or could we technically do rotations anywhere?

Thanks

You will do the vast majority of your rotations in state. They are assigned through a lottery of sorts. But most students end up doing some rotations in the Denver metro area and some in other parts of the states. There is no regional assignment to the Dallas, Austin, Houston, etc areas like the Texas schools. As I recall you can do 1 or 2 at out of state/country institutions.

Hey did anyone else receive an email saying they have a conditional acceptance based on a background check from the background check company (application station)? I interviewed here and Chapel Hill and I haven't gotten accepted to either yet but I got this email from the background check company...weird (I posted on the Chapel Hill forum too)

Pretty sure noone who has interview at UC since january has gotten an acceptance that I am aware of. I also wouldn't count on a background check email stating conditional acceptance unless it was directly from the school you applied to. Not only that but you just interviewed on the 4th, and some of us are from 1/14, 1/24 and so on and havent heard.

You get that email if you have been conditionally accepted to any of the PharmCAS schools. I got it when I got my first acceptance as well.

They told us at the interview that their first round of acceptance letters would go out three weeks after the interview. However, they wouldn't be sending out the final rejection/acceptance letters until March or April.

I'll ditto kmapes, it sounded like 1st decisions from the last fall interview would be around next week, but the final decisions would be late March and April for the whole process.

the wait is killing me! wish i they would send out more acceptance emails sooner :/

Hello,

I was wondering where/which hotels you all stayed at for the interview and did you rent a car? Also, was the interview more of relaxing or interrogation?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I stayed with my uncle in longmont, but I did rent a car. The interview that I had was not an interrogation. They ask you a question, collect your thoughts, and answer. Tips would be to know the curriculum before the interview. It could potentially be brought up. Actually, just expect it to be brought up. Not having a good answer for a question about their school is a huge red flag. If you can't invest a couple hours and learn about their school, why would they want you in it?

I stayed at Comfort Inns. Its not super nice but it was comfortable right in between the airport and the campus, about 15 min drive both ways. If you stay with them you also get a discount with enterprise.

Tip: bring a pen😛

Jeez I hope we hear something soon about acceptances. I checked the 2014 class and they heard ~5 days earlier than it is now! Must be a tough decision?

Relax. You're reading a little bit much into the time it takes to complete the admissions process.

Benelli, I feel ya. The longer it takes to hear something, the more I think its not going to happen. That is probably not the case, but that is how it seems.

There is always Super Shuttle too.

I can't believe you still use this! How are you man?

Whomever made a comment about "I can't wait for oral exams!" Just you wait and see!!

Love,
Shaun

Hi, I rented a car through Hertz. I chose them because they don't charge you extra for being under 25 and the going rate was only $17 per day which figured to be cheaper than getting a shuttle or cab. I used priceline to book my hotel and got a pretty good deal that way. If you plan on touring the city I would definitely recommend getting a car! Parking may be trickier now though... when I interviewed the students were still on winter break so parking was not an issue. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the campus. My interviewers were really nice and tried to make me feel at ease... I got a lot of questions on ethics... read the SDN interview feedback! Good luck!

How is the writing part? is it just based on the curriculum? or something general? i heard in previous years, they gave a passage and we would have to reflect on it..is that still true?

The writing part is pretty much the same as what you've heard. Just make sure that you review the curriculum before going into the interview. I made a mistake and didn't look at it well enough. I could only remember specifics on the curriculums of UT Austin and Texas Tech since I'm applying to both of those schools as well.... I'm just keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

I stayed at Hyatt Place which I got through a packaged deal with Priceline. I stayed 2 nights and flew out from San Diego and the whole thing was $239 (not so cheap but the place is really nice). I rented a car from FOX rental, It's like $10 a day but they charge $20 for being under 25 so I made out with $80 total for car rentals for 4 days and 2 nights. It was really fun driving around and checking out denver (me and my bf even went clubbing 😀 ) so I recommend getting a car! PS: if they offer that $40 gas without refill deal DO NOT take it because their cars are so economical that you won't do ANY damage to the gas tank. I drove all over denver, up, and down, and all around, and tried as hard as I could and only burned through one notch, if even. Oh and if you're a girl flirt with the dude at the counter you'll get a free upgrade to a pimp mobile!...well just a camry. HAHA!

I got my letter of Acceptance today but I will be denying my seat for the University of Minnesota, just letting those hopefuls know!

the times seem to vary with acceptance letters going out. Has any one actually gotten an email 3 weeks from the time you were interviewed?

I haven't heard a word yet and I interviewed 1/24. As far as I know, rwillia would be the first acceptance from the january onward groups. However, looking at last years thread, when they do acceptances they do a ton at once, so I am guessing they are just still reviewing?

Right there with you benelli. Interivewed the 28th and nothing yet, but I figured it would be a while.

I interviewed the 24th of January and received my acceptance this past Friday by regular mail. Maybe yours is on the way also, I would be on the lookout for it this week.

Good luck to you.

Sorry to ask, but do you live in colorado? I can't seem to access profiles on my droid for some reason. Btw, I was the dude with the black and green suit. Which person were you?

I am from Colorado. For some reason, I don't remember your suit lol. I had a dark blue suit, white shirt, and orange tie. If you are out of state, I would assume the mail would take a day or two longer.

Lol, I don't remember you either. I will be sure to be waiting at the mailbox Tuesday! Did you get any preliminary emails at all?

I actually interviewed way back in november, so ya don't be discouraged they accept a few here and there, and then the rest at the end

Interviewed @ CU 2/7/11 no word yet. Interviewed at Regis 2/4/11 and received telephone call with a very nice acceptance offer last week.

Yeah, I didn't get anything in the mail today either. Oh well, it won't be too long before something gives.
