University of Houston Class of 2016 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied in September and haven't heard anything from UH. At this point, I am set on Tech and UT.
I also have submitted my supplemental application in early December 2011.
I haven't heard anything from UH after the Residency questionnaire. 🙁

Does it mean we should give up for the interview invites?

No more Interview round left? 🙁

Based on the previous years, they interview until April or even May so don't give up just yet. You can always give them a call to make sure that your application is complete. Good luck.

No.. I am still waiting on mine.. 🙁 Did you just get it? what was your stat?
Do You think I have a slight chance of getting an invitation?

GPA:3.32(Overall prereq)
PCAT:83
Work experience: Worked as pharm tech 1 1/2 years

I am so depressed right now. T.T I can't even think!!
I got interview invitation from Tech, A&M and Incarnate word. But, this is my first choice since I prefer living with my family.

I am not getting any sleep tonight. :/

I don't think they send it all the interview invites at the same time. I was interviewed on the same day as a person I know but got my interview invite around 4-5 days later than him. Don't be depressed!

AGREED! you're gpa is WAYYY higher than mine

GPA: 2.83 (yeah really low)
PCAT: 95 overall (when I went to go to advising they said I had a lot of c's in sciences so if I did well on the science sections on the PCAT then it would kind of balance. So I made 96 on bio and chem 😀)
Experience: tech 1 1/2 years and then volunteered for a 1/2 year

I'm sure you'll do fine! I'm just freaking out because this is my first choice >----< and I'm uber uber scared of screwing this up ahhh!

OH and I got the e-mail this afternoon which almost resulted in a crash in the middle of rush hour -_-

LOL. I know what you mean. I would probably have screamed like a maniac in the car too.
Wow. you did so good on the PCAT!
Please let me know how your interview goes. 😉
Good luck! Hope you get a great news soon.

I will wait a little bit more. Although I am running out of my short patience (sigh)

fingers crossed for both of us. 🙂

I got an email from UH asking about when I will be talking my other 2 pre reqs left and what school? looks like a hope for an interview to me... Hang in there guys... hopefully we ll get what we all want.. 🙂

I'm kind of in the same boat as you lol. my science gpa is just a little higher. I got mostly C's in my biology courses. I took the PCAT again....my composite didn't rise by much, but my chemistry and biology scores look good. Hopefully the fact that I took my general bio courses again this past semester and made A's will help. #hoping

Although chances are slimming down by the week, I am still hoping for an opportunity. It is disheartening to not receive anything at this point from your own school, which I am extremely proud of, and devote so much time to help other pre pharmacy students.

Everything happens for a reason, but it looks like UHCOP will have a lot of fine students this upcoming class. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! Should you have time after you start, please provide inspiration and motivation for UH's own Pre-Pharmacy Association. I will be more than happy to be the liason for the upcoming officers next year if needed.

The best of luck to everyone. I hope to see you all succeed. Never give up!

GO COOGS!

Accepted!!! Didn't expect it this soon but I'm not complaining! 🙂

Hello!
I am currently a sophomore and U of H is one of the pharmacy schools I intend to apply to. I have volunteer experience at a pharmacy, but I have yet to obtain a pharmacy technician job, even though I am certified. I was wondering for those who have experienced interviews at U of H or those who are accepted, how heavily does U of H focus on "work" experience as a pharmacy technician?
-Thanks

Hey guys.. those who have been waiting like me, i just got interview offer for March 14. Has anyone else got interview that day ?

Volunteering is sufficient. Be sure to display that you have gained a lot of knowledge about the profession have a sincere desire to be a pharmacist based on your experiences. They don't focus on "work" experience a whole lot, it's just a bonus to have. I'm not even certified but I have volunteered and I got in. Good luck!

do they send out rejection letters? i really just want to hear something, ANYTHING, back :scared:

Anyone applying to UH for Fall 2012?? Their using PharmCAS now and have changed some things. FYI, the Supplemental Application will be sent to you AFTER you've completed the PharmCAS application. Additional info can be found on their website:

Ditto!!! I spoke to an advisor yesterday and found out that my application hadn't even been processed yet!! and I submitted EVERYTHING in late September!!! WTH?????

Can anyone tell me how I can find out if my application is complete. Pharmcas website doesnt state that. Thank you. UH shows that they revieved my supp app on 1-3-12, and thats it. Here a long wait. 🙁 or I m just ready to move out of Houston which I dont really want to.

Pharmacy school rankings are out for 2012.

Texas A&M tied with UH for 48th place.

http://grad-schools.usnews.rankings...s/top-health-schools/pharmacy-rankings/page+3

Edit: Just something to consider for those making a decision between the two

Rankings don't really mean much. Your gonna get out of a school how ever much you put into it. Besides if you already live near Houston, you can save money on an apartment and gas for rotations because A&M is in the middle of nowhere. Rotations are as far south as McAllen (2hrs away going and coming). Convenience wise, I'd say UH is better.

YAYYYYYYYYY. I got an interview offer for 3/23 Friday.. Words can't describe how excited I am.. Good luck for everyone who's still waiting.

it's been a LONG wait for me too.

Good luck for both of us! :xf:

Once you have been accepted and chosen the school you will be attending please submit your name and school to the following link, It is an Official Roll Call Thread. Also add any other school(s) you were accepted to. Think this is a great thread, it gives everyone a chance to see who their future classmates might be.

I just got accepted to u of h and I am wondering if it would be ok to pass/fail one of my classes that is NOT a pre-req. I figure I rather not worry too much about the grade since I already got accepted. Do any of you guys know if this will be a big deal?

BEST WISHES to all the applicants, hang in there guys..i know how horrible the waiting game is, still gives me goosebumps when i think back!! sdn really helped me a lot through the whole process, so i always love logging in here during the application cycle and help answer any questions or concerns you have about the interviews, application, or just pharmacy school life.

Good luck everyone, stay positive!!

As far as UH is concerned they only look at the pre-req gpa after you are accepted where you are required to maintain a C. But they dont really look at the non-req gpa, i know someone who got below a C after getting accepted and it didnt affect their status.

All the school's I've been accepted by have said in their letter that I must complete all courses at minimum C and maintain at least a 2.00.

I'm not sure if this is UH's policy or if the person who got below a C was an exception because his other grades were high enough that UH let it slide. It's safest to keep all grades above a C as it'd be silly to get this far in the application process, be accepted, and then have the acceptance rescinded because of a low grade.

As for pass/fail, it probably doesn't matter as long as the student passes. Personally I dropped a class that wasn't part of the pre-req courses for UH after I accepted. It didn't affect my status.
