I got an interview!

No email for me yet. Last name S as well so hopefully alphabetical order? Otherwise, does anyone know if they'll send rejections out at the same time?

Interview invite! wow really didn't think I'd get one!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! Interview invite! Last name starts with R.

I am soooo glad they chose to communicate through email for this. Maybe they were reading this thread. 🙂

Just got an interview invite!!!! (OOS) I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

Me too! It appears that it is in alphabetical order.

I just got my invitation also! I'm IS and my last name starts with T. Congrats to everyone else who got invites! :highfive:

Well on that note, is anyone up for dinner afterwards? =D

I'd be up for it too--I got an interview invite around 11 this morning and would love the opportunity to meet potential classmates.

I'm absolutely ecstatic! After rejections from the two other places I'd applied to this semester, I thought I'd go through this cycle with just straight rejections.

I forgot to mention, I'm from the Champaign-Urbana area (about a 15 minute drive from the school, tops) so if anyone needs a place to stay just let me know!

So does this mean they're no longer looking at our grades for an acceptance or do grades still play a role in how they pick the ones that get in?

Admissions decisions are only based on your non-academic and interview scores now. (75% non-academic factors, 25% interview). Since you've made it to this phase, they aren't looking at your grades anymore. They still want fall 2014 transcripts if you have them, but I'm pretty sure that's just so that they can make sure you haven't fallen below the minimum GPA or failed a pre-requisite.

I think they're looking at fall grades to make sure we still meet the requirements for interviewing but with the way the phases work I don't believe it has to do with getting a seat in the class 🙂

I'm still kind of confused about how the phases work. Are interviews given out based on Phase 1 & phase 2, then acceptances are Phase 2 & Phase 3?

Or are interviews Phase 1 only, and acceptances are Phase 2 & Phase 3?

Interviews couldn't have been just phase 1. My GPA is on the low side (~3.2) and I got an interview. My non-academic stuff is pretty good though.

I may just take you up on that offer since I'm from the East Coast and I wouldn't be able to drive while there. I could totally pay you for your trouble too!

From what students have said here, it sounds like the offer of interview is made based off of a combination of Phase I and Phase II scores. After the interview, phase I scores aren't used in the admissions decision because it's assumed that all the students who qualified for an interview meet the benchmark expectations of an academically qualified candidate.

There's definitely people who have below-average (for veterinary schools) GPAs who were admitted before. I'm sure that's because they stood out during Phase II. That'll be a huge advantage coming into the interview since your Phase II score is the largest factor in the final decision.

Yes, this is what I was told by Dr. Foreman when I met with him.

I've never been happier to be on the low GPA team. :')

I haven't heard anything either way. How are rejections sent out? Email?

Yay! My first interview invite!! (after 4 rejections, I was starting to lose so much hope)
(OSS applicant)
I'm also up for dinner afterward and meeting potential classmates. 🙂

I've never been more sad to have a high GPA! 😕

Don't be! Your GPA has nothing to do with how well or how poorly you did in Phase II. Everyone, high GPA and low alike, has a shot at admission. High GPA candidates are equally as likely to have an excellent phase II score. Phase II is simply non-academic factors like your vet experience, extracurriculars and beyond.

Everyone who got an interview offer has a chance at admission.

300+ applicants (130 Illinois residents and 200 non-residents) will be offered a personal interview to be scheduled in mid-to-late February.

80/130 Illinois residents get accepted
40/200 non-residents get accepted

In case anyone cares, may the odds ever be in your favor!

I just wanted to respond to this before it got buried. Rejections might be sent by mail. People who were in the first batch said they got letters in the mail. This is the first year that interview invites were sent out through e-mail. There's also the chance that they're waiting to send out rejections until the know who's accepting invites and who's declining. That way, if there's spots open they can offer it to someone else. I'm not absolutely sure on that. I'd probably keep an eye on the mailbox if you don't hear anything though.

You guys are right...logic is hard sometimes!

Good luck to everyone!

I know how it feels. I was in the "I'll never get an interview invite" sort of mood yesterday for no good reason. The interview process is long and I know that we're all really stressed. Congratulations to everyone who was offered an interview, and good luck for everyone who's still waiting to hear. 🙂

My rejection came via snail mail, then my portal updated later (I can't remember how much later).

Yeah for the record, my last name starts with C and I got my pretty early on (before 12). So seems like they are doing in in alphabetical order.

Portal updated, received interview invite @ 11am (last name C)

Congratulations to everyone who got an invite! As a current UIUC undergrad, I would suggest going to a bar on campus after the interview called Legends; very relaxed, grab a beer, and let it sink in that you rocked that interview!

Congrats everyone so far! Also, don't forget to check your junk mail because I know Yahoomail is horrible about that. Just a reminder that I have 1, possibly 2 open beds if someone can sleep on an air mattress. I don't mind being a shuttle on interview day either, and I have 3 cats and a dog.

I also got my interview invite today! OOS here 🙂 Congrats everyone!

@cloverbug I might take you up on that. I live at Purdue right now, so I'm not sure whether I want to drive in the morning or not.

I live about a half hour north of the school but I go in early on Mondays for wildlife so I'm always on campus by 8am.

What time do you think you guys are going to get there to register? The schedule says registration begins at 7:30 am, but my interview isn't until 1 pm and the information session doesn't even begin until 11 am. Also, do you think those of us who go to the first info session instead of the one from 2-3 will be done for the day by around 2? I'm just trying to decide when to book a flight back home after the interview.

You're supposed to register half an hour before your interview time. Glad I got an afternoon slot, so I don't have to miss work in the morning!
