😆😆😆😆

But really, they do things crazy different over there. I can only imagine how our veterans would react to a million "What are my chances?" posts instead of one out-of-place being posted every so often.

Massive retraction: just realized I had actually clicked on their "What are my chances?" sub-forum.....phone SDNing is hard

I was gonna say, things are run a little differently over there, but not that different lol I think that's mostly a side effect of the larger number of people and just...a different average personality type and attitude than seems to be the norm over here. Not saying that's gender-based either, because there are lots of guys in pre-osteo too and it's not nearly as cray (in general).

Now I'm just distracted by this forum. I now know that some med schools auto-reject reapplicants or those with MCAT retakes. Jeez.

I think they're night and day. There's a thread over there right now where a guy with a 3.7 is being told he can't make it as a doctor because his MCAT score is lower than average. Over here, even if someone comes with a 2.5, everyone is super helpful and positive. They tell you what to improve on and mention people that have gotten in with low scores, etc etc. In my opinion it's waaaaay more chill over here.

I was talking more about the running of the forum on a structural level than the interactions between the posters. I honestly know little to nothing about med school admissions so I can't comment on whether or not those statements are valid. I would agree that it is more chill over here - like I said, generally different personality type and attitude.

Thread derailed.

I mean, the whole crazy-stats thing isn't new to me. My roommate/best friend is pre-med with a 3.8ish. her first MCAT attempt netted her a low 20, and she flipped. She said exactly that-she has no shot with that MCAT score. I think it's because for med schools, it's actually true that if you have a low score/GPA, you really don't have a chance.

I will say that some of the pre-meds I've come across are downright some of the nastiest people I've ever met. Must be the pressure. Pre-vets can get nasty, don't get me wrong, but not nearly on the level I've seen with pre-meds. Plus, we're more upfront about it. And we don't go around saying other doctors "aren't doctors."

They have so many more applicants that the initial academic weed-out tends to be a lot more intense, from what I can tell.

I have a brother in medical school and when I mentioned him at my Illinois interview, one of my interviewers told me when you become a vet you can simply tell him he is just a specialized veterinarian, so clearly we rule😉

I love this! I watched a TED Talk recently called "What Veterinarians Know That Physicians Don't" and the speaker told the joke, "What do you call a veterinarian that can only take care of one species? A physician." 🙂

ACCEPTED! I'm an in state student and I received the letter this morning!
Congratulation!!! What city do you live in, if you don't mind sharing. I'm in Chicago and I'm wondering if my letter will be arriving today too.

Could I ask the first letter of your last name? I'm wondering if they're doing it alphabetically like they did with interview invites.

I'm in state and was thinking about checking my mailbox before my class but I decided to wait, now I'm kicking myself! I'll be counting down the next 30 minutes of class...

Aw, I live in Macomb and my mail came but no letter... 🙁 I'm probably a wait listed then. Congrats to everyone who did receive letters though.

Don't be so quick to doubt yourself. Read up a few posts. Someone said they didn't send them all out at once and that the rest would be mailed today. Chin up and remember that it's not over yet.

Thanks. 🙂

I'll try and stay positive. This has been a kinda awful week, so I think that's making me jittery.

Felixor is right - when I called yesterday I was told only some decision letters had been mailed, and they were mailing the remainder today. Don't lose hope yet! 🙂

I'll keep that in mind--I was turning a bit negative thinking maybe just the waitlister and the OOS decisions were delayed, but I think it's a bit silly of me to assume that. I'll keep waiting and hope the decision makes it to me Saturday or Monday.

I lived in Macomb for about six months. Not a bad place. The countryside is really pretty up there

About 6 hours away in michigan for me. I called home and my little sister is checking the mail for me lol

Edit: nothing yet! I'm thinking tomorrow or Monday will be the day for me. Deep breath!

I'm in Maine... Not only far, but we are supposed to get snow AGAIN this weekend. I'm gonna go crazy waiting for this letter to come.

Ooo, another Chicagoan? Not too many pre-vets around here! I am also Chicago - like actually in the city.

To those who have received their acceptance letters...Are they regular white envelopes?

You made me run out to the mailbox and get my dog all excited...and nothing yet!

It's actually pretty nice to hear that other IS applicants are still waiting here. (I thought you mentioned you were IS). I know all you OOS applicants are probably still waiting too... The anxiety will be over soon.

Edit: Apparently not. My bad! OOS will hear soon I'm sure
