me and my boys are gonna be down in south beach this weekend...anybody wanna meet up, we're thinking about hitting up prive, mansion, and the delano.
deuist said:The closest thing to a second look weekend is the FAU open house. Several of the students I met last year were going to the Miami campus. They stopped by to meet some of their future classmates.
As of today, 32 people have signed up for the open house. I sure hope that more people plan on coming. You'll get nerdery envy once you see this place.
Uh-oh, deuist. You've made caveman jealous.unfrozencaveman said:Why must you concern yourself with others besides me?

Consider yourself fortunate that I won't be in south beach this weekend lest I blind everyone with all my winter pale glory.labelwhore said:me and my boys are gonna be down in south beach this weekend...anybody wanna meet up, we're thinking about hitting up prive, mansion, and the delano.
Oooo, yes...I'll switch seats! 😉deuist said:She is certainly welcome to transfer... I'm sure that McMD would love to switch seats.

Algorhythmik said:Hey Guys:
I just interviewed about a week ago on Monday (27th March). I am supposed to hear from Dr. Hinkley by e-mail on April 19th/20th.
Does anyone know, be it directly or down the grape-vine, if the class is technically "filled" right now, meaning decisions given now are limited to Wait-List or Denied?
I'd be grateful for any pointers regarding this. Thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed til the 19th! 👍 LoL
Though approximately 75% of the waitlist at UM gets accepted eventually from what the stats show. Good Luck!foodlover said:Hi, someone reported a while back that the class was full and they weren't giving any outright acceptances anymore.
Can you tell those of us who couldn't make it about the second look? Thanks in advance. 🙂 I am also an FAUer.Algorhythmik said:Hey Everyone:
Although it was a long day in the bus that kept breaking down ... it was cool getting to know those of you who went.
I am now 100% sure I want FAU campus. 👍
Any thoughts regarding the campus choices for all of you??? 🙂

foodlover said:Thanks so much, that was a great description of the day!
I have one semi-stupid question though. I know that one day they are hoping that the FAU program will be a 4-year separate campus (i.e. you do third/fourth year rotations around Boca). But right now, entering freshmen will still do their rotations in Miami at Jackson correct? If so, what exactly is the relationship with the Boca hospitals that you visited - are they just for preceptorships during first and second years? Are they for electives during third and fourth?
Also, is the med school building on the regular FAU campus? If not, where exactly is it located?
Thanks again!!!
Algorhythmik, you rock! Thanks so much for that post. I'm sorry that I couldn't be with you all; it sounds like the food alone would have made it worth it!!! The good thing though is that I did pass my defense, although I'm technically not supposed to call myself a PhD yet until the degree is officially conferred upon me next month. 😛Algorhythmik said:PS: I am also an FAUer too, if you couldn't tell. I'm so psyched about this place. It feels like family with such a small group, you know? 😍
Organic chem. And thanks, for the congrats as well as for the post. 😀Algorhythmik said:Hey Q
What branch of Chem did you do your PhD in? Congrats! 👍
Man that does suck...and Miami is not a cheap place to live. What other schools are you deciding on? You could just wait and see what sort of packages they give you and then estimate your loans for UM and decide from there. But to save money, I say we all just pile into one apartment and steal lunch money from the gunners.foodlover said:2) Basically the reason they think it doesn't matter that we get the packages in June is that the fin aid office doens't give out any grants. It's only loans. Meaning the only scholarships come directly from the admissions office. So if the admissions office hasn't given you a scholarship, you can pretty safely assume everything else is loans. So that's pretty depressing.
I'm not giving you my lunch money. 😡 And you stink, penguin breath, so your apartment idea won't work. 😛MrBurns10 said:Man that does suck...and Miami is not a cheap place to live. I'm sure they do.RunnerMD said:So what happens when ppl who have been offered scholarships, drop their UM acceptance in on May 15? Do they redistribute the scholarship $$$?
I'm still holding out hope for some $$$.
I second that motion, but I have a dog and a cat, so we'll have to steal extra money to feed them! 🙂MrBurns10 said:Man that does suck...and Miami is not a cheap place to live. I know I shouldn't, but, I will anyway:labelwhore said:i heard this the other day

foodlover said:Not sure. They said that most people get their scholarships pretty soon after being accepted, but that just because you haven't gotten one doesn't mean you won't get one eventually.
Algorhythmik said:HI THere:
I've spoken with UM and UM@FAU students. I know plenty of guys who have mp3 cd's and/or mp3 players with audio for lectures, which they put on while traveling/driving. I also know of a few girls at UM who have video iPods and take them to the gym - work out on treadmills, etc while listening to lecture.
Personally - I don't think you'll find time to REWATCH every single lecture ever given - I think it's more of an extra reminder ability - something you can go over again if something seemed unclear the first time around ... know what I mean? 🙂
SPeaking of money, UM will make ya:![]()

dancer4 said:speaking of money... i'm WAY behind the times here and have yet to purchase an i-pod. do you think it's worth it? i don't want to spend $300 if i'm not going to use it to watch lectures but, then again, it would be nice to be able to fast forward through bits of lecture which were slow, etc. and save time. have you guys thought about this? ugh- i HATE money 🙁
RunnerMD said:The screens on video iPods are much to small to WATCH a lecture on, in my opinion. I would prob use my laptop to watch the lectures, and my mp3 player to listen to lectures. You can get an mp3 player (which is the same thing as an iPod and usually has better features) for a better price. A 1 gig mp3 player will probably only cost ~$100.
Heh. Nothing in life is free, kids. Make sure you read the fine print before you sign anything.dancer4 said:thank you! maybe i'll check out that bank- freebies can't hurt, right?
Damn. I just bought my fiance the 30GB w/video, I'll have to get the widescreen for myself!! (actually he'll just steal it from me!! dammit!)unfrozencaveman said:Apple is apparently going to come out with a "widescreen" ipod-- one whose screen covers the whole face of the player (I just saw it on cnbc) to replace the 60 gig video ipod. Probably not the cost efficient strategy you were looking for there, but it is cool.
No te preocupes; it's totally legal. After May 15, he can only have one acceptance, but he can have as many waitlists as he wants. If he get off a waitlist, he has a week or two to drop either acceptance. This continues on until he actually matriculates (goes for orientation) somewhere. So he was good.Algorhythmik said:Hey People, Quick Question for yaz:
Say a student is accepted at School A and Wait-Listed at School B:
If that student accepts at School A by May 15th, can they still stay on the Wait-List for School B thereafter? Or --- are you done once you sign at School A, hence required to drop those Wait-Lists? 😕
[Reason I ask is because a friend of mine was planning on going to FSU last year, and he had his bags ready and packed to leave about a week before Orientation. UM then called him a few days before leaving and told him he was in off the Wait-List. He called FSU and told them he changed his mind and was now going to UM@FAU. I don't know how Kosher/legal this move is, you know what I mean?]
Can someone explain this simultaneous Wait-List and Accepted ordeal? 😱
Many Thanks, 👍
- Pablo.
