For the girls, are you wearing heels? Does that go against the PT comfort thing?
Need to get a suit too
A kitten heel (1-1.5 in) or flats is acceptable for business professional dress code. I wore a kitten heel on my interview day.

Most of the people at my interview wore suits. If you don't have a suit were something as close to business professional as possible.( slacks with a button down and tie for men and a business suit with small heels for women) I saw some peopl with a business suit on that wore these colorful cartoon socks. ( I feel that someone older and use to the business atmosphere would not do this) I personally would not recommend this because this is a professional job atmosphere. But then again that person may get into the program. So in saying that, wear what you feel would most likely express what you will bring to the program but remember this is a business interview for a professional career.

I'm wearing heels. They are 3.5-4 inches which a quick google search tells me is appropriate.

I was going to wear a button up blouse with a pencil skirt only, but now I'm feeling peer pressured to get a blazer as well, lol. It seems like everyone is overdressing when I compare it to the email!

Hi There! I bought my suit yesterday and am headed for Austins campus to interview next friday. Would you mind sharing your experience and/or questions? Hoping to set myself up the best possible to be enrolled in the Fall cohort!
I had an interview at the SAN MARCOS campus last week PM and i can tell you about my interview process

Update: I had my interview at the San Marcos campus last week friday. Interview I believe went really well, met some really cool down to earth people. Fell in love with the area. They told us 3-4 weeks after the interview is when we would find out about acceptance or not, and as someone stated before the wait is SOOO much worse after the interview.. I am not even a week out from mine, and stressing myself out!

Interview tip: at the San Marcos campus the person I interviewed with really helped by making it feel ALOT less informal.. She opened up by making a couple light jokes, EVERYONE involved in the interview process tried to make us feel at ease. reminding us that the hard part is getting the interview..

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL!

Thank you so much for sharing.
Did they ask the usual questions that have been posted on other forums.
What did you think they were looking for?

Just got an invitation to interview at San Marcos on the 24th :)

Thanks so much! I'm hoping to hear back by this Friday since that will mark 2 weeks. I was interviewing for the summer cohort so hopefully they don't take much longer since May is coming up quick. Will you be attending?

I still haven't made a decision because I was also accepted to UIW after interviewing on 2/25. I loved what I saw at both of the schools but I'm trying to weigh the differences in the teaching styles/curriculum/clinical opportunities/location/tuition to see what would be best. I am leaning towards USA right now though :)

Hi, sure thing! Here's how the day went down. Besides the ones I mentioned, I can't remember any other questions that I was asked but I'll post them if I remember!

The first thing we did was take ID pictures and get our info packets/badges. Everyone was sent to another room to wait for the presentations to start, so that was a good time to mingle and talk to the other interviewees. After introducing ourselves, several faculty gave presentations on the program, financial aid, clinical education and different campus departments (ex. the library, student services, etc.) as well as some current students who also gave us tours later. They went into good detail about everything and gave lots of opportunities to ask questions. We were divided into group A or B on our badges, and one group would do interview/lunch/tour while the other did tour/interview/lunch. The interviews lasted 30 minutes, and my group had 3 interviewees (including myself) and 1 interviewer. Many of the questions were situational ("What would you do if a classmate you're close with cheated on an exam?") while some were aimed at getting to know you ("What activities/work did you do during undergrad, what extracurricular activities would you do during grad school, and how do you plan on balancing everything?") or hearing about your experiences ("What was a negative experience you had while volunteering/observing?"). The interviewer went around 1-by-1 for the questions and really engaged with us, so it felt pretty conversational with the interviewer even though 3 people were interviewing together. At the end, each of us were given the chance to ask the interviewer a question so I would definitely have one ready whether you come up with it during the presentations earlier, or based off something mentioned during the interview. I asked about opportunities/organizations at USA to get involved in the field of PT as a student and I mentioned Direct Access, which they talked a bit about earlier as well.

Hi all - I wanted to ask the general thread about resumes and the weight they have in the application process. I'm a non-trad and have 7 years of experience in the IT industry under my belt, which will make this a very big jump to PT. For the non-trads in particular, did you feel like your resume told a good story and that it helped you stand out at all? I'm a bit worried about making myself stand out from the people that have thousands of hours working as PT aides and things like that.

I'm a non trad applicant myself. They didn't bring up my resume but you have the opportunity to bring that part up during the interview when they ask you to tell them your background. Use your experience to your advantage. Be passionate about why you chose the field. I think we all have different cards to play it's just about how we use them :)

It seems as if I am the only one on this forum applying for Miami campus. I know they are having an interview tomorrow, but I am constantly being told that my application has not been reviewed yet because they are so behind. I applied back in October, originally for summer, but missing a class so I got moved to fall. Is anyone else having this same issue as me? Do they do like a "pre-review" type thing to see who they are going to review, or are they just telling me they haven't reviewed it when they really have?
I was going to apply for fall in Miami but I needed at least one more prereq so I am waiting until spring

I am currently taking one pre req. sent one off last week and have 2 more to take this summer and I interviewed for a spot in st. Augustine on the 10th. So maybe it's because the Miami campus is fairly new and they actually haven't reviewed your application. But you may be right but stay hopeful they may be giving you the best chance of getting in by doing that. At least they didn't let you stay in that cohort and reject you.

I honestly can't remember for sure. The interviewer didn't ask any questions specifically about each applicant (such as our undergrad activities or GRE or GPA) so I might say that it was closed? Unless he chose not to ask about those things. Each of the interviewees had their own packet that the interviewer took notes on as we answered. Most of the packet looked the same (I think there were categories of sample questions that he went through and chose a diff question from each section for each interviewee). However I couldn't tell if the front page contained personal info about each applicant, sorry!

Side note, best of luck to everyone interviewing this Friday!!!

So I finally heard back from the Miami campus. Apparently, my human growth and development course was not accepted by the admission's committee. I was told to register for a class that is acceptable, and then my application will be able to move forward and be considered for an interview. I did register for the course today, but I am worried about it being too late. They waited all of this time to let me know that the course wasn't acceptable. The advisor told me that it was fine, which is why I used that course in the first place.

I almost made that same mistake at st. Augustine with the human growth and development course they wanted. I was told that it was ok. But I bugged my advisor every two weeks updating her on my progress and they caught the mistake. Which was good because the summer term is coming up and it would have been too late to register for a class. So my advice is to do what I did. Every 2-3 weeks update your advisor. Stay in touch with him/her and make sure they are receiving scores and all of that because you will get worried about it not making it to the school. Because they may have all of your info. And it may not update on your portal . But keep pushing and good luck.

I'm not really following you, sorry. The course that I was told to use for HG&D was taken a few years ago. My advisor, who is no longer with the University anymore, told me that it would be fine. After all of this time I was told by admissions that it will not work. I signed up to take the course that they will actually approve this summer. Therefore, the course that I will take in June will be fine. I was only told that I had to show them that I registered for the course, and I can still be considered for Fall. I was just wondering is it too late because they have been interviewing applicants already, whereas my application still has to be fully reviewed.

Ok I see. When I did my interview on the 10th the admissions specialist told us that she contacted a student last year on the first day of class and the student made arrangements and was down there in Florida the next week. So yes it is still possible to start in the fall. I know they have an interview session this week and I've read past blogs that said there were additional interview dates after the initial two. The advice they gave us was to always be ready for a call or an email. Have everything in place as if you were already accepted whether you are waitlisted or moved to a different cohort.

Out of curiosity, what about the course was not acceptable?

They said that it did not cover the psychological aspect per the description of the course. I received an interview yesterday after I signed up to take a more suitable course.

Right after this thread I received an interview for this Friday. It is super short notice, so you were correct about having to always be ready! Thanks for your help.

No problem at all. The good thing about St. Augustine is that they have 3 cohorts a year so they are trying to fill seats with quality students. If you have any questions about the interview process I will be happy to help.

They did the same to me and did invite me the next day ...so don't worry

I hope you all don't mind me asking general app questions... Just figured this is a good place since you all have the experience under your belt now :)

For science courses with combined labs (i.e. 4-credit courses), does anyone know if those still factor into the prereq GPA as 4 credits, or are they only weighted as 3 credits due to labs not being required?

For example, if I received an A in BIO 101, would that count as 4.0 x 4, or 4.0 x 3 towards the GPA? I know this is getting technical, but I want to be able to track my own progress and know how I'm doing.

Answering my own question, because I just got a reply from an advisor... If labs are combined/included, the full credits are counted (so in my example, all 4 would be factored in).

Interviewed today and it's true... The staff does everything they can to make you feel at ease. I left about 143 times more in love with the school than when I arrived, so I'm hopeful! The waiting begins... Does anyone know how long it'll be from now when we find out? I'm thinking next week since the first group was told they had 3 weeks and they interviewed 2 weeks ago...

I know Emily was saying that the admissions committee is meeting next week to go over all of the applicants from both interview groups and to expect to hear by April 1st!

Yea I'm looking forward to next Friday. Idk what the difference is between the 2 interview groups (such as when our app. Was turned in...flex dpt compared to full time) but the 2nd interview group has it easy lol. Only one week compared to 3. But good luck to all. And no matter the outcome keep pushing and stay passionate about Physical therapy. So in saying that I will be checking my email and portal 10,000 times between now and next Friday. Lol blessings to all

I'm not going to ask your stats because to me that is not as important as everything else but are you flex? And which campus?

I did.. all I care about is accreditation and how well they prepare you for the board exam. In the packet they gave us at the interview, did anyone else notice the % passing rate they have for the board exam or their % of students that finish on time? Kind of scary..
what was it?

Every school has it ups and downs and students that quit. Cant judege a school based off of what one student say or anything. USA isn't the only school that has bend sued, it isn't the only school that has went down in graduatation rate or has went down in the boards. Every school has that.. pertaining to this response in the link, when I interviewed, the interviewer actually told us that he failed a student on a test because the student did not give the patient an important piece of advice about safety , BUT the student was given a chance to redeem himself. So in saying that every job, relationship, school, piece of clothing has something that they have failed at or have something that is viewed negatively upon them. Research each school and everything they stand for. I am all about informing your fellow candidates. But do not get discouraged about it.

Hey guys, I'm the one that posted the other thread. It's not just me, it's a fair amount of students. The list of Pros and cons are more or less supplemental information that they don't provide. I'm the type of person that has an entire mental map of the city I live in implanted in my head with all the streetlights, traffic tendencies, etc I then can instantly make corrections as to which route will be the fastest one to take and then I don't think about it at all. To use that same analogy, it's like the city is undergoing construction and the city planner's don't want you to know that roads a, b, and d are now blocked off so they can use rads c, d, and e to get home within 5 minutes while everyone else gets stuck for 5 hours wasting gas.

Don't be afraid to ask your concerns now, because after your accepted you'll be even more afraid to ask. They basically hold your future employment in their hands and a partial 98% PT degree isn't worth anything at all, only a fully completed degree is worth anything.

*Just make sure to ask very politely and calmly about your questions and get it in writing.

There are a lot of schools that are doing this "professional dress code" because this is a professional career. And when pt's are making health suggestions to doctors about a patient it doesn't hurt to dress well rather than be in a t-shirt and gym shorts. It's just like a child. If the kid is bad we blame the parents for not giving that child proper home training. The same goes for every PT school. If you aren't respectful or professional or know nothing about PT we blame the school. But everything you are saying is alarming. And I am just like you. I did my research on st. Augustine before I interviewed(the pros and cons.) The only thing that is alarming that is coming from your post it that their curriculum isn't accredited. But the chances of it not being accredited are slim. When a new schools pop up and they have to get accredited (with new students attending) the chances of that school not being accredited is very slim, even if it does take 1-2 years. So I'm sure that USA has learned from their past and did their appropriate research to make sure it gets accredited. Every school has it pros and cons. Many schools accreditation is coming up for review that may scare people. A school in Alabama( that I will not name) recently lost their Dean of the PT program and is now short staffed because other teachers quit. you just have to chose the lesser evil between schools.

So does "reviewed" mean it was accepted or in the process of being accepted.

It's one thing to not have an accredited curriculum, it's another one to hide this information. That tells you something about the school... transparency is key. It doesn't matter whether the chance of not being accredited is low, let people know so that they can make the most informed decision. I agree with you that things such as dress code or being failed for little things, that can be subjective from one student to another and we were not there to know what really happened; but the administrative stuff..that's alarming. I'm not going to USA, but I have a friend that is considering applying there due to low GPA and location and I will make sure I mention to her that post. To me it's not discouraging, it's making sure she has more information she might not learn from the school. Thank you @StAugTruth for your post, Now I'm waiting to see what other USA students have to say
