University of St. Augustine Spring 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So for the biology class prereqs did you guys use animal bio/zoology? It says on the prereq form only human based biology, but then I remember seeing someone post in this forum that they used zoology? It doesn't specify that on the website.
I mentioned using zoology as a biology prereq. I think human-based biology was in terms of taking anatomy. They want the anatomy to be human-based

I just double checked and it is for biology. They ask for human-based biology.

Interested also in what the rule changes are.
Sorry for the late reply.

The rule change may not be news to you guys, but it was to me, especially because I specifically emailed them last year and it doesn't specify on their website!

1) On top of the pre-req GPA, they also look at a trend GPA and a science GPA. The trend GPA has always been a requirement; however, what changed from last year is that they now only consider your last 15 upper level courses within your bachelors program. So for those of you who are like me and have already graduated and wanted to re-enroll back into school to upgrade your GPA marks, USAHS will not consider these courses for the trend GPA. This was kind of a shock to me because I e-mailed them last summer prior to enrolling back into school to make sure about this requirement. Seems like they only recently made this change.

2) USAHS only allows prospective students to apply a maximum of two times. If you're rejected on your second application, you are not allowed to apply again.

p.s. [email protected] is Jocelyn's direct e-mail for those who were asking. I found it easier to just call the school and get them to directly transfer you to her line though as she's usually swamped with e-mails.

Anyways, hope this helps and good luck with the applications everyone!

@mh0408

That is weird...I graduated and didn't do well on a couple pre-reqs and retook them over the summer right after to help my pre-req GPA, so now that retake won't help my preqreq or cgpa at all? Are these definite rules? 🙁

From what the advisors told me it will not help the overall GPA(it's ridiculous) but it will help your pre-req GPA.

Do they focus more on cgpa? I feel like they focus more on pre-req?

I would say pre-req is more heavily weighted and I think cumulative will only help a low pre-req (if it's higher). I doubt a low cGPA would kill your chances of you have a stellar pre-req but that's all speculation.

@b_campbell04

That' what I was thinking also, for USA that is. Are there other schools in Texas that are similar to these rules of not helping accumulative after graduating undergrad?

Every school that I have looked into in Florida does it this way. It would be a totally different "post-bac" GPA. I am unsure about Texas schools as I am trying to stay in state to save on living expenses

I spoke with Jocelyn and she said that if your cgpa is around a 3.5 and pre-req gpa at around a 3.7, then you'll be competitive. For those who have a low cpga, she says the pre-req gpa should be close to a 4.0. Hope this helps!

which campus is Jocelyn located at?

Wow. My pre req gpa is a 3.54 and cumulative is a 3.23 🙁 my combined gre score is 302. So if joecyln is saying that then my confidence just went down lol but idk if it's different for each campus. I'm applying to the FL campus...has anyone spoken with Erika Forrest lately?? Keep calling but I can't get a hold of her.

Finally got in touch with her and set up a "phone appointment"...I'm going to ask her general questions like what's the avg gpa of applicants that get an interview. Are there any other general questions you guys would like me to ask and then reply back with the answers on this forum?

Jocelyn is at the SD campus.

Oh, also another thing I forgot to pass on! The school calculates their GPA a little differently, where a B-, B and a B+ are all B's. They disregard any -'s and +'s, so this might actually boost some of your guys' scores!

For the Florida Campus:
So, the average pre-req GPA for acceptance is 3.4-3.5.
There is a 6 month penalty before you can re-apply if you are not accepted.
They do not calculate +/-....this brought my pre-req GPA up to a 3.6!
We should be hearing back in August.

I have a C in Anatomy 1 and Physics 1, but A's in everything else (as far as pre-req goes). This is what could hurt my chances.

Hi all, I am considering applying for the Summer '16 term which has a Oct. 1st deadline... How soon should I submit my app to be competitive? Also, can you not submit more to the application until you've submitted your resume, SOP, and autobiography? I've read something somewhere about a log-in that they send to you once you've submitted these parts.... just looking for some clarification 🙂

I do not think you become more competitive by early admission. It's only for the individuals who submit after deadline date that their application will be looked at only if spots are available.... Unfortunately you cannot submit anything else until you do your essays, resume, ect. You will be given your login and then you can start on the rest. I highly recommend you submit the first part ASAP after experience you will not receive your login for quite some time.

Not that interview invitations were sent out already, but does anyone know the prospective date?

For Florida campus, I was told we would hear in August (didn't specify whether it would be the early, mid or late August).

In light of PTCAS opening up today, where else are you guys applying to?

I was scoping out last cycle for this term (Spring 2015), and I saw Florida had interviews Aug 1 and Austin's was Aug 8. I just want to make sure I keep the weekend open. I'll try calling this week and let everyone know. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get in contact with someone again

It sounds like invitations to interview for Austin went out last year around July 18th so if the trend continues, invitations for Spring 2016 will be out around next Friday.

@kmart756 That would be something. She did say it'll take them 4 weeksish to make decisions/process them but wow, its already almost been a month since the deadline already???

all I know is my stomach is in knots, I look everyday for a status change lol.. okay who am I kidding I look more than once a day 😛

So I had all of my stuff submitted by the deadline and the website shows it's all there but I still haven't gotten that log in or whatever it is. Nothing shows up when I click on application status. I've been trying to get ahold of Erika Forest for a month now. I've sent her multiple emails and a couple calls a week and NOTHING. I'm nervous that my application won't be processed or something. Does anyone know someone that actually answers emails/calls that I can talk to?

question... I am applying for the Fall 2016 semester, but am curious what is the best way to upload your unofficial transcripts? Mine don't copy and paste so well onto a Word doc....

Has anyone's admission status changed? When I click on that tab there is nothing there.

I saved my unofficial transcripts as PDF's and uploaded them that way.

I originally applied for fall 15' and I know most of us in there had to wait a very long time for our login. We were all equally as frustrated.

Oh man, reading all these post just makes me more stressful. I too was going to apply to USA(Florida) it's good to know all these details

Hey you all, I don't know if this helps but I was able to schedule a phone appointment with Erika Forrest (did so thru email) and she told me all of my documents were received and my application was complete and that she sent it thru to the admissions review. I dont know anything about a login. I just applied thru https://online.usa.edu/overview and created an account with my email.

Anyone who applied with the old application, https://my.usa.edu/ics (where I did get a login a while ago), should get in touch with erika forrest to make sure all the documents from that website were transferred to the new application (https://online.usa.edu/overview). That's what I had to do.

So are y'all going to this website, https://online.usa.edu/overview, to view the status of your application?? When I click on the Admissions Decision tab on the far right, it's just blank...anyone else?

I think it depends also because some people deferred their Fall 2015 app to Spring 2016. Like mine, I deferred it and I'm still on the old application site rather than the new one you sent. I'm going to assume they're just getting on the applications or haven't started reviewing them yet...hopefully :X

I'm on the new application. I spoke with Erika last week and she said my application "moved forward for review", but when I click the admissions decision tab it's also blank. I'm assuming it's the school still trying to get use to the new application. It's frustrating, but I'm just gonna trust my advisor when she said it moved forward. I would probably just speak to an advisor and make sure your application has moved forward as well.

Hey guys, how long should the USA Autobiography essay be? I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that it's 2-3 pages.

Okay great! She told me the same thing a few weeks ago! Thank you 🙂

My autobiography was 3 full single spaced pages and my statement of purpose was a full single spaced page.

I remember reading on past posts on these forums that the autobiography was roughly around 2 full pages. I had spoken with Jocelyn from San Marcos on the phone late last year, and she stated that the lengths of both essays were to be written at the discretion of the applicant. It appears that there is now a more clear length posted on their website for the statement of purpose:

  • Autobiography (An essay that includes information about your past educational, professional, and personal pursuits, and how they have brought you to the health sciences field)
  • Statement of Purpose (Formal essay detailing your purpose for applying to the University of St. Augustine. This essay is typically around 1200 words)

Nothing either. Stomach is in knots.

Hey guys,
So Erika finally emailed me! She just let me know that they are still in the review process. I wouldn't worry too much.

My advisory just said the same, applications are under review

Where is everyone applying to and what program? I'm applying for Austin DPT.
