University of the Pacific Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah.
UCSF (unlikely to accept me)
UCSD (maybe)
Touro (screwed up on the interview)
UOP has always been my number one choice so I don't really know what to do if they reject my application later on during the process.

I initially applied last cycle but due to some issues with one of my courses, I didn't get very far. I reapplied this cycle and one of the 2 schools that I applied to last cycle that didn't even interview me, sent me an interview invitation this cycle. If pharmacy is what you love then if you don't get in, just find ways to be a better applicant next cycle. Take it from someone who has been there.😉

However, it's still too early to be thinking negatively. Just hope for the best.

It's official! For the on hold people like myself, it will be a grueling and long application process...

I was put on hold too...I don't understand why....I have the GPA, thought I had a decent interview, have some EC's, and have 2 years as a certified pharm. tech so I don't get exactly what they are looking for.....the good thing however is that we were not waitlisted or rejected so we have a really good shot of getting accepted in March once people begin giving up their seats being that we were initially tier 1 applicants.....

A lot will happen between now and March!!!!

Did everyone receive their notifications already? I still havn't heard anything back yet..=(

Thanks for the insight Jason! This year, it is pharmacy or bust. I am going all in; I never actually thought that I would be in this situation but hey **** happens haha. It's ok if I call you by your name, right?

:xf: hoping for the best

fingers crossed till the end of march, haha.

If you interviewed on Oct 15, then you should either had a mail indicating if yor rejected or on hold or an e-mail indicating your acceptance. I got the letter today and it was dated Nov. 2. By the way, I live in California, so it might depend on your location.

Seriously! Now, I'm thinking that I might have really screwed up that odd sample statement. I have a GPA above 3.5, a student tutor, some leadership ECs, at least a year volunteering at an inpatient pharmacy, and a pretty good interview. I'm hoping that tier 1 hold applicants have the first crack on an open spot.

Don't worry though, I actually asked Veronica about the selection process a while back and she mentioned that the "for sure applicants" gets the spot and as the interview process starts rolling, they will start giving up spots to the applicants on hold.

Let's panic yet and hope for the best :xf:

Wait, u live in fremont? I live in fremont too! Haha, small world.

Well that's reassuring!!!!! I think what hurt me was the undergrad school I went to. I went to a state college rather than a UC and despite the fact that they tell you that it does not matter in the end it does. An applicant who goes to UC davis looks better on an application that an applicant who goes to San Jose State. It's not fair but it's how it is!!!!!

Where do you live in Fremont?

Umm...thatz odd. I live in Bay Area too. I totally thought I was getting a letter today. More wait for me 🙁

That is crazy how a lot of people got wait listed or put on hold. This is making me nervous now :scared:

Does anyone know when acceptance letters will be mailed out for candidates who interviewed on 10/29?

I don't think this is true at all. Delano got in and doesn't have a degree at all, and I've seen others in the past get in with course work from community colleges.
There's nothing that looks bad about having a degree from a California State school.
I don't know what exactly it is UoP is looking for or why you were put on hold, but I would say with almost 100% confidence that it is not because of where you earned your degree from.

Don't think like that and stay positive, I went to UC Berkeley, and we are on the same boat. I think it is more of an overall assesment of the applicant. For a long time, I thought UOP prefer applicants that have extensive pharm experience based from my friends and reading through multiple SDN forums but then again it's not completely true

Obviously, the selection committee saw some flaws in our apps or maybe there were flaws on our interview. Then again, who knows? I know it's frustrating of the uncertainty of our status but stay positive; we have the capacity and potential.

Let's just use this forum to vent and know that you and rest of the on hold people are not alone! Haha.

I live at Central Fremont near Suju's Cafe. What about you?

I completely agree with you on that one 100%. I had a buddy who was a police officer took pre-reqs at a cc, didn't have a bachelor's degree, and barely had any pharmacy experience and got in to UOP. HE must have had an EXCELLENT interview and use coercion to get in lol j.k.

I'm not saying that it looks bad, I'm saying that it may have made me less competitive. In California, almost anyone can be admitted into a state college but it is a lot harder to get admitted into a UC or private college such as Stanford. All I am saying is that it look more impressive when someone goes to a school that has a prestigious reputation as opposed to a school that doesn't. Getting into pharmacy school is also way more competitive than it was a few years ago and therefore it was much easier to get accepted with prerequisites from a CC and without a degree. Today however, the chances of getting accepted this way and without a degree is very low....Delano and you are the rare exceptions....congratulations by the way!!!!! :claps:

Relax 🙂. Breathe in and out. Think about it, you have pretty good stats and unless you really screwed up on your interview then, you shouldn't worry too much.

What's the worst the could happen? A hold status still gives you a fair shot of getting in considering that some accepted students might decided to go somewhere else.

I think the reason they are putting applicants on hold is that they want to see more pool of applicants.

Sorry to hear that yo but I like the fact that you are still being optimistic.👍

Well acceptances, in my case, was sent out on the 17th day. You just interviewed last Friday so you got a few more days to even remotely start thinking about not getting in. Plus your stats are way better than mine.😉

Meh, I wouldn't say I am a rare exception. Maybe an exception though.😛:meanie: Honestly I thought my app was gonna be placed on hold due to the fact that I won't have a degree prior to matriculating so I was pleasantly surprised.🙂

Agreed.....I'm tired of stressing out.....whatever happens....happens...

Just keep hoping for the best man. Did you at least get in somewhere else yet?

Still waiting.....I'm pretty optimistic about getting into UoP in March though but we'll see. I'm still waiting for an invite from UCSF which was my number one choice before I interviewed at UoP. How did your interview at Sullivan go?

Lol, thanks delano2000. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on my status. Once I get get accepted (hopefully), I'll create a Facebook group page for the class of 2014 🙂

dnguyen401, did you interview on 10/29 as well? I'm so anxious to hear back! I just got my unofficial Touro acceptance email today, but I want to wait until the last possible minute to give them some sort of response b/c I'm waiting to hear back from UoP. This waiting is the WORST!!

Congrats on Touro! Did u happen to interview on 10/20? I should be getting a response from them sometime next week.

Waiting is the worst! Just hope that you get in because getting put on hold lengthens the whole application process. Unless, you really love UOP so much that your willing to gamble. Best of luck!

Did you email Touro about the decision?🙂

Just checked my email and got the acceptance letter. 🙂 My heart is still beating haha I was interviewed on the 10/29 date if anyone is wondering. But yeah, now I don't have to take other additional courses for Western or USC! whoo hoo! hopefully my winter and spring quarter will be more relaxed 🙂

i interviewed that date, and live in CA and still haven't heard back yet.. the anticipation is killing me!!!!!!!!!🙁

No, I'm going to wait until the last minute to hear back from UOP. If I don't hear back from them by the end of the 2 weeks, I'll probably send in the acceptance then and just wait some more =[ UOP and USC are my top 2 choices. Did you hear back yet?

I didn't email them about the decision before Nov. 3 to see whether I get accepted or not. I emailed them earlier, I guess it was too late since today is Friday and they usually leave early. I will wait until Monday. 🙂 Congrat by the way!!!!! I'm sure you will be fine for UOP and USC!!!! 👍

It was ok. Got some pretty odd questions that I was not anticipating but I am done with everything now so that is a relief.

Don't gamble your acceptance though. I would definitely give them some kinda response while waiting to hear back from UoP. The most important thing is that you got in somewhere.

Yeah, I interviewed on the 29th as well. I requested an extension for Touro so I have until November 19th to pay the deposit. The waiting is the worst but I try not to think about it! Gluck and I hope we both get in! :luck: And congratz on Touro!

They made decisions for candidates that interviewed on the 29th already? :wow: Yikes. I hope I get one soon! And congratulations!!

I got put on hold too. What's the difference between hold and waitlisted? Who has higher priority?

Thatz exactly what I am wondering too..I got my hold letter today too 🙁..Wonder if they put everyone not accepted on hold.

Is it better to be high waitlisted or hold?

I think this is how it goes:

interview--> accepted --> rejected or on hold --> after 2-3 months on hold applicants will be reviewed--> some will get accepted while others will be on hold ---> By March: On hold applicants--> high waitlist--> medium--> low.

I might not be right but as far,as I've read through last years UOP cycle it went on that order.

Correct me if I am wrong.

People on hold have a higher priority. When you are waitlisted, the admissions committee has already decided the status of you app and then you are ranked based on how competitive you are. When you are placed on hold, the admissions committee has not made a definite decision on your file yet. In march, all the individuals on hold will once again be reviewed and either will be admitted or waitlisted.

I think they do this because there are so many applicants and they want to make sure that all the most qualified applicants from each tier are offered seats first. A lot can happen between now and march though and plans change so the outlook is actually pretty good for everyone on hold who had an interview. I wonder though is being on hold from a tier 1 interview takes priority over an individual on hold from tier 2 or 3? I think I'm going to e-mail Veronica and find out 😀
