Does anybody know how the timetables work? Is it a standard timetable in which all classes are schedulled to end say around 3pm? Or are they scattered throughout the day? I just want to know since..at least I'm gonna need part time job to fund this. Any info would help. Especially from current pharmacy students. Thanks in advance.

Interesting how I was thinking about the EXAT same issue today... I sincerely hope that we get at least one day off like people did this year 😉

The price of that is a few late lectures/labs like that one that ends at 9:30PM. But at least you get a whole day off to sleep, or work or that matter. You'll probably live close to campus anyways so it's no biggie.

Actually I live quite far away from campus (but still within commutable distance.)

And I don't mind having late classes at all, as long as I know I'll have an off day when I can sleep in 😛

anyone invited for the interview?any idea about the questions' types?

I'm sure everyone wants to fit in some part time hours.. but am I the only one who thinks 11 courses is A LOT? but these are full year courses right? so I guess it equal to the same thing as a full course load.

The new curriculum looks awesome, we jump into some of the good stuff from year 1,

Does anyone know what the "Experiential Education" is? - volunteer work at a pharmacy?

Boy I think 11 courses are a lot too.... I am taking a full courseload now and I absolutely have no time to work partime:scared: Really admire those who could work partime and study fulltime👍 !

I 'd like to work partime during my studies, but A) don't quite know a lot of places to look B) too afraid to fail 😕 I assume everyone else is good at looking in broad range of places for partime here.? If you don't mind I need your help.

I totally understand where you are coming from Fly. it is quite difficult to study and work at the same time. but considering you are a candidate for a professional school, you should have more confidence in your abilities to manage time 🙂
I work part time at a pharmacy as a technician while completing my undergrad right now. it is hard at first to juggle everything, but i got used to it after a while. certainly, it was a great experience to be exposed to the work environment and even helps to de-stress after heavy school work. I think you can try to find a part time position on campus perhaps next year, start with a few hours and work your way up. and if you find you don't feel comfortable with working while studying, then that's ok too because you'll have plenty of chances to work in the summers and after grad. hope this helps 🙂

Dont forget this new curriculum requires " Experiential Education - 160 hours over the summer (May - August)"

Don't forget that most of those courses are simply half courses 😉

BTW, has anyone wondered why on earth we have to take stats AGAIN next year considering that we had to take it as a prerequisite? 😕

I had a very unpleasant experience with stats this year, and I've also heard that pharmacy stats is one of the most disliked courses by pharm students... 😡

Since all applicants are coming from different backgrounds (degree wise) and schools, I think the faculty wants to make sure that all students have the same essential knowledge about statistics.
It is an annoying course but it's a small price to pay to be a pharmacy UofT student 😉

Yeah, it'll help jog our memories, especially since some of us will have not touched a stats book in 2 years 😎. Bring on those T-tests!!

I can totally see your logic behind this 😉... but by the same logic we should all take orgo, biochem, thermo etc etc because we came from different backgrounds and we need to refresh our basic knowledge !!!

I still can't get over it, sorry but I hate stats soo much 😡 :bang::annoyed:

lol in my case I had to read an entire stats text book (cover-to-cover) just a few short months ago... so the thought of taking stats again makes me wanna :barf:

lol yes but there is a biochem course we take in first year and although there is no orgo or physical chem, I am sure they will touch upon them in the other courses so they will make sure you understand the basics for them. However, I'd rather take stats over organic chem anyday, that course was brutal!

I actually ended up getting an A+ on the stat course so if we both get in, I can help you through it if you want, seeing as you hate it this much 😀😀

haha I haven't touched it in 3 years but it will be interesting to study it again, I just gotta dig all that info out of my brain 😀

You guys are all smart and can figure it out when u get in. The hardest part is getting in and then the fun begins. I'm sure if people from this forum work together and each individual contributes their strong attributes, pharmacy will be a bit easier. 🙂👍:xf:

aw, thanks a lot... I'm already super excited for becoming, potentially, classmates with such cool and smart people 😀 😉

I agree with you, I've heard from a friend who is graduating this june that the students tend to help each other during the program since no one is in direct competition anymore so it should be fun! I'm reallly excited 😀

actually u r in competition....since residency placement is limited the higher the mark you get the more chance for residency...

wait, for some reason I thought you got in last year, but your status still says pre-pharmacy... so are you an applicant this year ?

and I thought that EVERYONE would do the residency (or as they call it "experimental education")... 😕😕😕😕

That was quick lol. Thanks 🙂, I sure hope so because I really want to be at UofT next year 😀

SAME HERE 😀

but at the same time I'm kinda sad to leave Western... and tomorrow might, potentially, be the VERY LAST day of classes for me at Western 🙁

I got rejected last year after interview...

I applied this year but I probably won't go cuz I got a pretty sweet job for next year

The experimental education are ROTATIONS (non-paid) that everyone have to do (old curriculum pharmacy kids do it during their 3rd and 4th year but new curriculum is during the summer of each year) and residency is pretty competitive where you specialize in certain field of pharmacy (i.e. clinical or inpatient) after you finished or 4th year (low pay but looks good on resume)

haha same for the rest of us 😀. As for the residency, I heard it is indeed pretty limited, but it isn't mandatory. If you are planning to work in a hospital pharmacy you must do the hospital residency. Otherwise you can go straight into retail pharmacy (without residency) after you get licensed.

Would you mind if I ask you what it was last year that hindered you from getting accepted? What did you think of your interview last year?

Last year MMI for me was like living hell

I mean the interviewer at each stations act like they don't want to listen to you at all and there is this one guy who smile at you after the answer and then continue to mark a 1/10 on the rating sheet IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE....

I'm sooo not looking forward for this year's interview...but I don't really care about this shyt this year so I guess I'll be less nervous? lol

Well I hope that you'll have a better experience this year 😉

And surely, those interviewers were somewhat cold (some of them, not all) but at the same time, I have a strong feeling that some of them are TRAINED to act in a way to aggravate you... so remember that!

And for anyone doing the May interview: be prepared to face ANY type of person as your interviewer, they could be either welcoming, cold, somewhat rude or interruptive etc. 🙄

I agree with what you are saying but all the pharmacists I have met thus far seem to have completed their bachelor of science in pharmacy, got liscenced and are now working. So although it is limited, I don't think many pharmacists actually consider doing it.

haha I remember last year this interview station that I had (which I knew I was totally screwing up on) but the interviewer was smiling at me and all. Towards the end, I saw her giving a low end mark. Although its better for them to smile since you feel more comfortable, sometimes getting a cold face is better than a smile! lol

actually my pharmacy manager told me (he was one of the interviewer in one of the march session) that most of the interviewers are pharmacists👎

in my case, I could tell most of them were actually pharmacy students (i.e. they were too young to be pharmacists)

p.s. I sincerely hope I'm not breaking the confidentiality rules, since I'm note really giving away anything about the content of the interviews!

i noticed this too! it was really comforting actually, having older professionals doing the interviews would have been intimidating!!

Perhaps they have made some changes from last year.. why cant it be may already? i want to get my interview over and done with. I'm glad U of T has non traditional interviews. definitely sounds less intimidating.

Do any of you who have had the interview think that the MMIs really tapped into "pharmacist qualities" or did some of the stations stray away a bit?

I think most of them did touch upon pharmacist qualities for sure, but in a very subtle, indirect sort of way.

I can only really think of 2 stations that strayed away from it, but I felt those 2 stations would provide a more holistic picture of you as an individual.

Sorry, this must sound extremely vague lol.

I'm surprised to see that you actually managed to get a look at what the interviewer wrote down. It seemed very difficult for me to get a look, although I wasn't really thinking about it too much at the time.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you think you were doing wrong when you got the low end mark, and did you actually get to see exactly what it was?
I'm just curious since I can't stop thinking about everything I said during the interviews.

So do you think you completely froze and couldn't say anything right, or was it just a matter of you not speaking with 100% confidence or saying only one or two things you wish you could take back?

Ya for some interviewers it was easy to see your mark esp. if you finished early, they would mark you there infront of you while, for others they waited till the 2minute break (I believe it was).
The reason I messed up, is because the question caught me off guard, it was one of those questions that I'm just horrible at. At that point, my brain just completely shut down for that interview and I got really nervous and was giving her all these stupid answers lol I think her smiling meant she was laughing at me lol. Sorry to leave it so ambiguous, it would make more sense if I was able to tell you the specific question!

I think you guys are better off not talking about the interview. You are all borderline breaking the confidentiality. They said not to DISCUSS ON PUBLIC FORUM. Have any of you seen any other forum (example last years) that gave this much info away?

If you have had the interview..just chill out. If you have not had the interview, then be yourself, be honest, and dont be fake.. Then more honest you are, the more thoughtfull you will be. You are who you are due to the exposures throughout your life. It's impossible to recreate oneself in a month.

I really don't think I broke any confidentiality rules, I didn't mention anything about what the interview questions are or even give away any hints to what it was. I was merely stating my interview experience, which we are allowed to say.
Either way I do agree with you that all you can do in the interview is be yourself and be relaxed too! Anyhow good luck to us all 🙂

Doing all of my undergrad exam preparations. After all my exams, I'll focus on my interview scheduled in May. It sucks to that regardless of the actual number of applicants, the number of interviewees remain the same each and every year!
