University of Toronto Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When I ordered the transcript in April the lady said all that all the grades were suppressed until May 1st so i chose the option to hold the transcript until final grades are released, which meant that they won't ship out my order until the grades are finalized lol.

I suggest you to contact both UWO and UofT to look into this... I did the same thing as you did but I was informed that I had to change my transcript request.

Up to you though, maybe you did everything right but at the same time we're approaching the deadline quickly 😎

Can you just call them and have your transcript request changed? Or do I actually have to go there in person?

19 days left. We are approaching the decision day everyone.

This is a deadly wait for a 50/50.

I guess if the sentence begins with: "We regret to inform you.." then it would suck big time and leads to wtf happened. But if it starts with ""Congratulations..."" means dont read further, call your mom, then read further and finally post on snd.

I actually know how the sentence would begin in that case. After they post your address and say something like "Dear ______" it would be something like, "Final decisions for 2011 cycle have been made. Unfortunately we are unable to offer you admission."

But I am not sure if acceptance letters begin with the word "Congratulations....." Though I am inclined to think that it is, because that's standard practice everywhere else.

I've been rejected from pharmacy before and it was something along the lines of: "Thank you for applying to the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, blah blah...At this time, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you a place (cue the violins)...(insert some sad obvious excuse that there is limited enrollment and admission was competitive)."

Something like that.

guys, in my opinion, we should NOT be thinking about what the rejection letters might say... let's just think that all of our letters will start with "CONGRATULATIONS" 😉

how strict is U of T with their June 10th transcript deadline? Will they hold it against you if your transcript arrives at a later date even if you inform them?

Well they have your marks electronically submitted. If you really can't get it to them by the 10th I'm sure its fine. I think the transcript is just their proof anyways.

As mentioned, as long as it gets in by June 15, you're fine. Having said that, its kinda disappointing that they don't mention whether they got your transcripts or not. I wanted to double check whether they got my last transcript and I still haven't gotten any kind of response and the deadline is around the corner. I've given up hope of hearing back 😛

A comment totally unrelated to the above re: transcripts- wondering if anybody has any idea:

I'm taking a course this summer (well two, actually) but I REALLY hate it. Thinking of dropping it after I find out about admissions (obviously I won't drop it if I get rejected because it'll help me get ahead for next year and it won't be a pain in my butt during those semesters). Does it matter for Pharm that it would technically be a late withdrawal? I think because I would have already "accepted" (again, play along with my assumptions! 😀) it shouldn't affect anything on my transcripts. I really don't want to waste my time studying for the final exam if I know that I'm switching Faculties in September and this course would be literally useless to me then. Any input is truly appreciated! Thanks guys (and gals, lol) 🙂)

It depends on how confident you are you will be accepted. As I see it there is more harm in dropping than continuing. If you are rejected and you drop then you missed out on taking a course you'll have to take anyways and it would be a late withdrawal on your transcript so it would hurt you in future application attempts. If you are accepted and you dropped, your admission won't be affected since U of T Pharm won't even see that on your transcript. However you won't really gain anything. You'll just avoid a course you don't like and I guess spare your GPA slightly.

My advice: stick it out.

Today is the deadline for all transcripts to be submitted. Two weeks after today we will hear our fate. We are approaching the big day everyone!

yea it sucks, during the week i'm fine for the most part as I'm working full time research and constantly busy and in the "routine" but weekends, any second i have free time it creeps into my head... so i've been coping with that by partying hard... a bit too hard lmao.

OH boyyyy so close! Has anybody else 'planned out' ways to tell family&friends that you got in? I figure that if I see an acceptance I'll print it out and post it on the fridge, or leave it on my parents bed... and leave the house to party... something really non-challant haha and then SCREAM and shriek later on. Just to be silly. BUT these last few weeks are so hard to deal with.

lol if i get in i will probably scream it out loud to wake them all up (even if they decide to post it at 12am that day) 😀

omgs. i wouldnt even know what to do if they posted at 12 am....i hope they post it in the morning. so when i wake up it's going to be a brand new day for...good news?

I don't think they would post it at 12 am exactly because that didn't happen last year. It was 5 am, I think, that they started posting the decisions.

Does anyone know when is OSAP due? I always get confused about this 🙁

As far as I know there's no deadline. You can even apply during the course of your studies. I believe the application opened already however.

YUP, OSAP = Ontario Student Assistance Program

Since tuition and books are aprox 15-16k plus living costs, do they give enough to cover that? (provincial+canada student loans)

I'm guessing 25-30k is required per year. What do you guys think?

i think the government loans will go to a max of about 11k, then from there we'd need a bank loan. soctia bank has a specific loan for uft pharmacy the last time i checked, and it was about 20k a year.

Yes, as someone mentioned the maximum is only about 11k per year, and there's no guarantee that a student will qualify for that amount. But if you're OOP you would apply for student assistance in your own province so they might be better or worse than OSAP.

At this moment, this thread does not attract much excitedness as the U Waterloo one. 😎 I can understand 😎 you guys must be so restless now since the decision time is just around the corner!

Does anybody know around what date orientation starts? or whatever pre-semester stuff they do...

Are we talking before or after labour day? or August?

(Yes I know this is bad karma, but I don't believe in that stuff...)

5am? 😕 Wow, I guess I should wake up that early to check 😛

They usually recommend 6-8 weeks before you start school as I recall. Can someone confirm that?

Is OSAP Ontarios version of provincial student loans?😕
Yes, OSAP stands for Ontario Student Assistance Program.

and if the decision is a rejection? 😛
Being sinister, are we? 😛

From what I've heard, with OSAP, they will cover close to tuition, you'll have to pay the rest yourself but as mentioned, you can take out a loan for UofT pharmacy students or if you have any savings, then you can use those 🙂

Couldn't have said it better myself. That reflects the reality of my mood exactly.
Maybe it's just me, but, I'm somewhat relaxed. Given, I'm getting stressed as the 24th gets closer 😛

Sorry, unfortunately I have no clue but I would think it would be start of Sept.

Well the UW forum just exploded =) How I envy them. I hope we receive good news as well. Congrats HelloEveryone!

Thank you so much 🙂

I almost forgot about this forum since we had sooo much action on the Waterloo forum 😛

I've got some posts replying my suggestion that UofT posts their decisions at 5:00am. I'd like to clarify here that it is only my theory that they do so, based on the norms of last year. I think they do it because of the different time zones in this country, such that if they post it 12:00 am Eastern Time, it would still be Jun 23rd in the west coast! But please don't take this seriously because we have no way to make sure that 5:00 am is the right time! I'd feel guilty if everyone here woke up early just b/c of this😳

lol, I personally would've killed you if I woke up at 5 am just to see no offers were made. JUST kidding 😛

As far as I remember, most people found out by about 8 am last year. My theory is that: last year because of G8 meeting pharm building was closed, so they programmed computers to post offers in early morning. BUT, this year pharm building is open and they can, technically, post offers anytime during the day before they close at 5 pm.

Any ideas?

Hi this is my first time on this forum. I just want to find out from those that already got in or have knowledge of the approximate admission averages, what my chances are in getting into UofT pharmacy.

My mark is 80%, all my chem courses are above 70

PCAT:
Verbal: 45
Bio:80
Reading:71
Quant:79
Chem:88
Composite:79
Writing: 3/3

Interview: felt like i did bad in half of them...

Thank you for your time.

your pcat and gpa are definitely good.

however it seems that from previous years the interview is a huge deciding factor, a bad interview + great marks = rejection, conversely average marks + great interview = acceptance. but this is not so clear cut...

also from last years forum it seems doing bad on 1-2 stations was acceptable...however this year may be different due to the large decline in number of applicants.

also stay optimistic, i felt pretty crappy coming out of my waterloo interview and still managed to get in! hopefully u'll hear good news on the 24th! good luckk!!! 🙂

Congrats and good job on getting in. you must be stocked. Are you accepting waterloo or going to UofT?

From past candidates who posted on SDN it seems if you have approx 80 on both PCAT and GPA you have a fairly good chance as long as your interview was reasonable. With fewer applicants this year you might even have more leeway.
