University of Wisconsin c/o 2018 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The character limit is intimidating, but this makes me feel better. I can definitely do succinct, since I don't think I'm particularly diverse either... just older since I'm a non-traditional student. I've been putting off working on the essay, and I won't have all that much time to finish it since I have finals next week.

I've been putting off this supplemental because I've been doing finals... and I just realized that there is a 4000 character limit! Are you guys discuss multiple things that make you diverse or just focusing on one thing? I didn't realize the character limit was so big and I assumed it was going to be one of those "essays" that I would have to cram into four sentences... guess I was wrong! 🙂
Honestly, I can't imagine writing that much. Maybe I'm just not that interesting 😛
I know a lot of people who are vet students at UW and honestly most of the people I know did not write anywhere close to the character limit in any of the essays. I think the adcom would rather see a succinct, to-the-point essay than read a long rambling essay.
Oh, good. Cause mine is about 1,000 characters, with spaces.

I think I'm going to just pull stuff from my other supplemental questions, since a lot of them ask the same thing (what makes you different, etc). Hopefully I'll be able to tie it all together coherently. Good luck, everyone!

I just submitted! I swear, each time I click a submit button I feel like my stomach is going to drop out of my body, lol. I'm officially done with vet school applications though 🙂

Now to study for my biochem final... Ugh. Good luck to everyone else!

Right there with you on studying for the biochem final... Best of luck!

Submitted. :sigh: Now we get to wait until the end of March to know our fates at UW. That. Is. Far. Away.

I love Biochem. It was one of my fav classes in undergrad :cat:

I love biochem; I think it is incredibly fascinating. If the amount I loved a class (and/or the amount of time I put into it) had a direct correlation with my grade, I would be set 😉

Does it really take until March for them to notify? I saw that it might not be until March, but I was hoping that was sort of a disclaimer and it would at least be February! That is sooo far away. At least by then I will probably know about my other schools...

Last year OOS applicants started getting phone calls Feb. 12th. I'm assuming it will probably be the same this year. Still far away, but better than March!

Creeping up on this thread because I don't want to study for finals... I remember getting my acceptance phone call mid-February at 7 p.m. MST. I think everyone got their acceptances by early March (can't speak too much for IS people) because the official invited students house was March 15th last year. 🙂 Good luck!

whelp. I have written my diversity essay about ten times now... and I'm still no more diverse than I was when I first started. 🤔 To be honest, I almost do not want to submit my supp app because then there really is NOTHING to do but wait. At least the supp app makes me feel like I am actively doing something that will help me get accepted. I guess I'll head over to the "Quirky ways the class of 2018 applicants are handling The Wait" thread.

I think my supplemental is ready. I only really answered the breadth question because I had nothing to contribute to the other 2.

I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I barely made the character limit. Once I compiled my answers from various other supplementals I had a hard time trying to eliminate characters. Meh.

EDIT

Just when I thought was done paying for application fees...grumble grumble.

Has anyone check in with admissions regarding what they consider to be a first generation college student?

Both of my parents have high school degrees... mom took some college classes but never graduated. My grandpa did graduate from college. Not sure if they even look at grandparents with that question.. and if they mean college student or college graduate?

First gen means that neither your parents nor your grandparents attended a 4 year university. I had to ask, too.

Question about the Family Section of the Supplemental Application: At the very bottom of the page it says

"To be completed by students claiming residence for tuition purposes based on employment under Wisconsin statutes 36.27(2)(cm).

For the purpose of WI residency, the employed person is:"

Does anyone know if this means you should only fill out your parents' info if you are trying to claim in-state residency? I'm not sure what my dad's previous address was, and I don't think he knows either... Also, "For the purpose of WI residency, the employed person is:" (drop-down box)....which "employed person" are they talking about here?? Any ideas??

ow I had trouble staying within the 4000 characters, lol.

I put "none" in the drop down box since I am OOS and not trying to claim residency. Is that what everyone else did?

Yeah I didn't take that section too seriously b/c I'm OOS. I mean I filled out what I could but I didn't fuss over it.

Just finished and submitted my supplemental and already so sure I messed something up. The wait on this one is going to be killer. 😱

Yeah . . . . I'm a pretty busy gal and was soooo done with application nonsense I kinda put it out of my brain. But how awesome is it to FINALLY be done with applications!!:soexcited:

Sooo happy to finally be done! I kinda feel that I wasn't as particular about this one as I should have been.... but it is what it is!

So, based on last year's forum...we should start hearing mid-February. I'm an OOSer and WI is my #1 choice out of the two schools I have not yet been rejected from. Oh, the wait..

The earliest post I saw from the "Successful Applicant Stats of 2017" thread was on January 29th, 2013 (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/successful-applicant-stats-of-2017.970957/), and the person who said they got in was OOS. I was surprised it was that early...

Here's to hoping we'll start hearing back soon!

If anyone has any questions about the school I'd be glad to answer them in any PMs. I didn't hear until February 13th so don't panic if you're not called at the end of January. I have no idea what sort of schedule they're on this year but hopefully for your sake it'll be similar.

I think that person went back and edited their post later, once they had heard from UW. If you look at last year's UW applicants thread, it looks like ALL of them had to wait until mid February. Just pointing this out so that people don't get all excited to hear in late January this year haha

Haha I just now noticed that...ah well. Guess we'll have to wait till about a month from now. Fortunately my interviews for other schools will be done by then! I'll be glued to my phone (more so than I am already) at all times that week :xf:

It sounds like last year the OOS applicants heard around February 12th, and the IS applicants heard a bit later... We're getting closer; just another month of waiting!

my denial letter came on February 23rd last year.

Same here, dwood89! Did you apply anywhere else?

Yes, I also applied to Purdue (IS), Illinois, Auburn, Tennessee, Lincoln Memorial and Tuskegee. Interviewed at LM and I'm "pending" however...wouldn't accept even if accepted there. Rejected from everyone else.. Just waiting to hear from UW and Tuskegee. What about you?

I applied to CSU, Missouri, Iowa State, and UW. Rejected from CSU and Missouri, interviewed at ISU, and waiting to hear back from UW (IS).

I am in serious danger of going absolutely crazy before I get any news from UW. I get nauseous every time I look at my mail box. Please tell me I'm not the only one that feels like life is in slow motion and the day we get acceptance/rejection letters will never come?

From what I saw on Wisconsin c/o 2016 and 2017 threads, IS people receive decisions through snail mail only...sometime during the last couple weeks of the month. OOS people can get a phone call starting the middle of next week if they're accepted...but I think most OOS people receive snail mail (for acceptances, wait-lists, or rejections). The size of the envelope is a key determinant.

I'm glad the Winter Olympics are coming up...gives me a little bit of a distraction

I have given my husband specific instructions for checking the mail. Anything arriving from UW in a small regular sized envelope must be hidden from me until the weekend - I'll need a full weekend to recoup from anything in that sort of envelope. If a large, full envelope arrives he is to immediately interrupt WHATEVER I am doing (work, school, etc.) to deliver the letter. Until something arrives, I refuse to check the mail myself.

I am going crazy too. I am an IS resident so of course we have to wait longer. I gave my roommate specific instructions on what to do if she gets the mail before me on the day it comes.
