US Atlantic Bridge Program 2014

Go where you want to go! If you wanna experience Ireland than go for RCSI!

Not to be mean but once you are in school and preparing for the process you'll know what I'm talking about. Its just so much more paperwork, more hassle and way more stress. US MD schools prepare you for US residencies. Irish medical schools just won't. Timing for everything is a huge factor, it rarely works in your favour. Everywhere you go theres going to be an extra barrier for IMGs. Just look at the residency websites, theres always a special section for IMGs with extra requirements.

I guess it's different for me, I am also an eu citizen and wanna practice over there.

Well that is a big difference then. You are telling someone who has a US MD acceptance, likely does not have EU citizenship to choose RCSI which could easily cost 300k+ over their US acceptance? These are big decisions and there is way more to it than going where you want to live for a few years.

I'll be paying EU tuition? It's about $100,000/yr in tuition at RCSI. Versus $50,000/yr at Chicago Med.

What we meant by EU tuition is the tuition fees EU or Irish students would pay which are subsidized by the Irish government. If you are paying $100k a year it is international fees.

Still have to figure that out because I grew up in canada

I think you will pay international fees. In order to qualify for EU tuition you would have had to have lived in the EU with EU citizenship for a few years before applying. In any case if you qualified for EU tuition the admissions standards would likely have been more stringent.

Medstart108 is correct.

There is a part in the application package and acceptance (for UL at least) that says that you still need to pay EU fees if you are applying through Atlantic Bridge - or not through the Irish system. Doesn't matter if you have EU / dual citizenship.

Morning fellow applicants,
For those of you who got acceptance letters, is there anyone planning to reject their admission offer?! For any school

I am just asking because I want to know whether I should raise my hopes up again for the next round of offers / interviews?!

@surgeon14 to my knowledge TCD has not sent out second round offers yet. Just FYI🙂

I rejected my offer at UCC. They only gave me 20 days to decide so it was a difficult decision!

can anyone comment on how competitive these programs are?
is there any sort of grade replacement available?
I think the programs are fairly competitive, a few GOOD applicants got rejected.
About the grade replacements, you might wanna email ABP about this matter.

I am sorry to hear that @ECRobes what are your plans after this? Are you going to apply for a US med school?

Well I am still waiting to hear back from a few Irish schools but if not, I'm going to finish my undergrad, write the MCAT and apply to the US.

@ECRobes it must have been a difficult decision. At the end of the day though you have to do whats best for you!🙂 What is your first choice Irish school?

I hope you get accepted to the school you want. All the best 🙂

I haven't heard anything back from RCSI and I applied in February. My file remains "open for consideration".

I haven't heard anything back from NUIG or TCD and I applied in October...

According to Atlantic Bridge, my file is still active.

I can't remember if we have discussed this already but when do the rejections usually go out?

I got my RCSI rejection in March sometime, and the last rejection was end of July from TCD.

I had already accepted UL by that point, but my files were still active elsewhere.

Sassa, if you don't mind me asking, what is your GPA? And did you apply to the 4 or 5 or 6 year program at TCD?

I am finishing first year at UL, so my stats are for last year's cohort.

I applied to 4-year programs (because I'm old and already had an undergrad).

I went through Chemical Engineering as my undergrad, and my GPA was 3.3 I think? I can't really remember, it was almost half a decade ago 😉 Low GPA, but many 4 year programs in Ireland looked at the difficulty of the undergrad and also what you did in life as a mature student. I had that going for me.

Thanks for the info Sassa. Did you take the MCAT?

can anyone that has applied comment on the following?

do you have to enter all courses somewhere (like amcas) or do you just send in your transcripts?

which gpa do they look at? the transcript GPA, or do they recalculate it?

I think it was 28 or 29 P or R. Somewhere around there.

I half studied for 3 months, and did a 1.5 weekend crash course the month before taking it. I was working full time when I wrote it. Non-science background (though VR and Physics / Chemistry were easy for me from eng). I figured I'd give it a lash, apply, see what happens.

Was *this close* to making it into Western but my bio score was 1 point too low. But that's what competition is.

I knew I had the best chance at 4 year programs or schools that looked at the difficulty of undergrad program and life experience. Having been in the workforce with as a non-sci/non-trad, I applied to those. I already had acceptances for master's programs, so if I didn't get in first time round, wasn't going to be the end of the road. I just knew I couldn't stay in my industry anymore and needed to transition to biomedical / biomechanical engineering and out of nuclear.

I got accepted into limerick with a 3.20 Gpa and 25 mcat. Like sassa I had good experience after college though. You don't need a perfect Gpa or mcat to make it.

Hi everyone!! Canadian student here, been accepted to UCC dentistry for September 2014 back in April! Anyone else?! Message me so we can get acquainted! 🙂

I got my rejection from NUIG & UL
Mine said "due to highly competitive group of applicant..."

I guess I've still got the option of Trinity, but I'm not keeping my hopes up anymore. Looks like either US or Australia for me! (Although I would happily take an acceptance from Trinity. I really like the school.)

Are you guys applying from Canada? I guess I am just wondering if any Canadians got a rejection?

Hey, I'm Canadian (I got into GEM at Limerick- GPA: 3.8 and MCAT: 27) but I thought it might be helpful to know I just got rejection letters from UCD (about a week ago), UCC (yesterday), and NUIG (yesterday)

I hope this helps keep your hopes up, you still stand a chance 🙂

Hey, I'm Canadian, got into GEM at RCSI (GPA:3.5 and MCAT 31 and Masters GPA 3.3) and I so far have gotten a rejection letter (via FedEx rush, apparently they just couldn't wait to tell me to get lost hehe) from UCD at the moment.

hey everyone I was just wondering if someone has started a Facebook group for those accepted to UCD? Please let me know if you have! thanks

Do you guys find it annoying that we are still waiting for those final decision letters, knowing that we have like 80% chance of getting rejected. (At least I do).
IT'S JULY
