  1. Medical Student
Hey I was wondering if anyone could give average monthly rents that USC medical students pay at USC Keck, I know it varies quite a bit because people live within a pretty wide radius of the HSC that includes Monterey Hills, Moterey Park, Pasadena, etc.
Also I hear the cost of living in LA is "high" but besides rent what esle is particularly expensive?

cost of living is quite high in la, that's true. I'm not a keck student, although I was going to be a MPH student at the HSC campus ( before I got into UCLA). Rent right near campus is quite cheap, 900 bucks for a single. The area isn't that great though ( as far as I can tell). I'd expect 1000-1300 a month for a single. Go to craigslist and search.

I will be a student there in Aug.
I will be paying $550 to live in a gated community less than 1.5 miles away from campus (Sharing with 3 other ppl)

That is a really good price. Other than that i think you are looking at around 700-800+ per month to share a apartment/house with roommates.

Public transportation sucks around LA too. A car is pretty much a requirement.

Yeah...that was my plan too. I was lucky enough to have met someone down at 2nd look that really wanted to live with me and she ended up going down to LA, spending several days and looking for the place. She even found our other 2 roommates.

Anyway, the place is between downtown and campus in a small gated community on the edge of Little Tokyo. it is probably <1.5 miles from campus (which is good cuz I really want to bike to school). The place also has a gym, 24hr private security, neighborhood watch, pool, hot tub...community center. It is $2275 for a 4 br. and my bedroom costs $550 a month (the most expensive room is something like $640). I think we got the last place avail. in this place though.
