just got the rejection email too. awesome

I am in the same boat. This line I found particularly funny though, "I understand how painful that may be at the moment." So painful, so very painful. I didn't want to be a plastic surgeon anyways.

Me too. I just got the e-mail this morning. I must admit the rejection letter was one of the most politly written and professional sounding that I have got. I specially liked how it hinted as residency application and possibility of ending up at USC post MD. I am very saddened by the rejection, but, at least, they were not rude about it like some other schools I've been rejected from.

joining the club!

but don't feel mediocre...last year, my ex-coworker was rejected from USC pre-interview (she got her PhD from USC in mol pharm/tox) and now attends Harvard...

guess this means i won't be classmates with most of those cool people i see during my lunch break everyday who are taking tours around the health science campus and having student interviews in the quad...

back to dissecting rats! 😀

LOL. just recieved the same message. you gotta love the "you do the math" comment. haha

I only applied to 5 schools and got my first rejection yesterday from UCSF. The UCSF rejection was very nicely written and personally signed. This rejection was a little less eloquent... maybe I just thought that this was a school I should have had a shot at. I guess I'm new to the rejection game (unfortunately, I'm also an interview invite virgin).

Office of Admissions February 15, 2006

Dear Mr. Lahoo Zaherrr:

We are extremely grateful to you, and to thousands of your colleagues across the country, for applying to admission to the Keck School of Medicine, Class of 2010.

Nearly 6,300 applied for the 180 spaces, and that means that I am the bearer of bad news for most applicants. I am writing to tell you that you are not one of those chosen for an interview. I understand how painful that may be at the moment. But I am sure that you understand as well as anyone the reality of the math.

I sincerely hope that you follow your educational dreams at another medical school. And four years from now, if your residency match brings you to LAC+USC, we will be glad to see you.

You have my personal thanks for taking the time and effort to apply to USC, and I know that my colleagues in Admissions and on the faculty share my gratitude.

Sincerely,

me too
my heart is broken 🙁

I just checked my email about five minutes ago and the same thing happened to. I must say though that it is one of the more polite rejection letters. Well at least it saves some time and money right?

was everyone on this thread rejected pre-interview?

yea..... nothing to make you feel worse than a rejection right after bombing your interview (and by your i mean mine). man if poop could feel things, i'd feel the same way. 🙁

Got this one also. Their loss, in my honest opinion.

polite? nah. i thought the damn "click on the status page to see your letter" thing was soooo tacky. i mean, i paid good money, i want a paper rejection letter in the goddammed mail, so that i can give it to my roommate's cat to shred.

as a fine conniseur of rejections from med schools, with a grand total now of 12, yes, 12 of them, i think the best, hands down, by far was dartmouth. very honest, very grounded, very real, and on really, really nice paper. i even wrote them a thank you note for their fine rejection, in the style of their rejection letter. i hope it made them laugh.

anyway, i got my MS at USC in a science program that's more highly ranked then their med school is. screw 'em. and they just lost any alum donations i might have wanted to give them.

yeah seriously, that's bull$h!t....just got the email too, they can't even waste a stamp on us. And my girlfriend, who also applied, checked her status page right after me without checking her email first but assuming she got rejected too, and saw that they never received her LOR's. Basically she donated toward a new anatomy lab or something. Thanks USC

yep, got the letter too . . i also think it is pretty unprofessional to have us check our status page to download the letter. golly. oh well.

USC, if you weren't in California, I wouldn't give a rat's butt about this rejection. In fact, I really still don't. But I agree with the other posters that an electronic letter is not appropriate.

There are many schools that reject like this. I.e. UC Davis sends an email rejection only, Wake Forest sends you an email with a letter attachment, and Ohio States doe the exact same thing as USC...

Sorry everyone about the bad news!!! 👎

Yep, and I can personally verify each and every one of those. UC Davis' rejection is the worst though. Wake Forest's was the harshest though, just because of how quickly the rejection came.

I don't care that the rejection is via email. It keeps costs down, saving us additional secondary fees. Plus, a rejection is a rejection. I won't be going to USC, so they could give me a text message informing me of the rejection; it doesnt change the outcome.

I think Wake Forest's rejection letter came as soon as I hit the submit button on my AMCAS

Rejected too. there goes my chances of going to a Cali school...

Sorry, but I am only finishing up my frosh year of undergrad. But, according to what I have been told, isnt it essenitally near impossible to get into another state school aside from your own? Unless, of course, you have stellar stats and a bit of luck?

yea, but usc isn't a state school. it's private like stanford. the five UCs are the only state med schools in california.

I got the same letter, It was written ok but I agree that having to click on the status page to get it sucked. still looks like i'm going out of state.

its not totally impossible to get into a state school other than your own. I got into one. If it was totally impossible then those of us in california (where our state schools give residents no preference over other applicants) would be even more out of luck. Sometimes all you need is some sort of connection to the state, even a weak one like you did a summer of research there or something.

Whoo-hoo, another guy here who just got the boot from USC! I agree, it was a reasonably well-worded letter, exactly the same one as they one they sent me last year (change a few numbers). 😛 Seriously though, if they weren't a CA school I'd never even consider it.

Hahahahahha I wish USC had the balls to just put in an e-mail. Maybe I'm just bitter. Whatever, they don't have Leinart or Bush anymore. Le sigh.

awwww, snap!

i just got the beat down from 2 LA schools in one day! $heeeeiiiiiit...

eh, never much liked living there anyway.

That's not true. UCI and UCD accept very, very few out of staters. Like maybe 1-3% of the class, and the others still accept mostly Californians. The problem is just that there are so many California residents compared to the number of spots, which is only about 500 total at the UC's.

Rejected... but I'm getting used to it now. Doesn't quite carry the same sting it once dod. 😎

I also received the email rejection this morning. Seems like they were saving them up...

YAAAAY! i got rejected too! F*CK SC!! who cares! their football team isn't even good anymore!

Joining the USC rejection club. They screw me on my paycheck every other week, so I should have expected this.

yep, I was just rejected too (pre interview) I called to check my status and the lady told me they sent me an email and to check my status page....I guess she didn't want to deal with my reaction on the phone....

but i got into northwestern yesterday!!! 🙂 so screw cali lol jk, i wish i could stay here, but im beginning to think cali schools are over rated...

got bounced as well....and i didn't get an email telling me to check my status. It was waiting for me on my status page!

They sent us a mass mailing...we should send them a mass mailing back. 😉

Yeah, I think USC trumps BU in lamest rejection ever (BU also had an email rejection...for $100). I hated all the "suspense"....the whole "your status has change" (me thinking...oh gee, I wonder what it is) and then going to the website only to find "click here for your decision." Jeez, just get it over with!!

So your girlfriend never checked her status page before this? bummer.

Haha, oh I know, I got the BU rejection email too. My favorite line was "This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away." Yeah, I know which one I am, thanks. Another gem was "Most of the candidates we are considering this year are qualified to attend medical school and are likely to make important contributions to our profession and to society." Well the rejection means I'm not really being considered, so I guess I'll make important contributions somewhere else.

And no, she hadn't been checking the status page, her letters were sent late and I guess she just assumed they got there. it sucks

I think its not appropirate, but it's a lot cheaper than traditional letter. I guess they are tight on money.
