Hello everyone!

With 2016 around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to start this thread and continue the 2015 thread into the new year!

Similar threads from the past have been extremely helpful to me (and I'm sure) and many others.

Good luck to everyone taking Step 2 CK in 2016!

I did only a block a day.
Due to family obligations I did uworld in like 4 months spread out.
I kind of forgot most stuff that I did, honestly..
Now am crunched for time.
Uworld is also the only resource due to time crunch and seeing how the majority keep saying that uworld has everything that you need for the exam.

You have 8 weeks, not crunched for time. Figure out how many days until your tests, how many days off you want and how many hours/day you're going to study. If you scored 54% and are only using UW, you should at least have 1 review book and/or use online meded for casual review by subject, so you have some sort of organization and recognize your weaknesses.

Where is the "free 131" that people have referred to on here?

I noticed nobody really talks about the three block, 120 Q PDF available on the nbme website (as seen below), why not?

free 131 has now become the free 120...at this rate , 20 years from now they ll have 2 question block where the case scenario takes 20 minutes to read ...and every question has 50 options...

or make it pass/fail, 12 questions, 23 minutes each, with 500 options. and call it the CKCS 2. Half your grade is based on how kind and gentle you are with the crappy mouse

Thank you so much for the direction!
Really appreciate your input and this forum. 🙂

Wrong Site .. SDN is home of the 270+ , people here will tutor your tutor .. lol

My Step 2 CK now says completed and my print permit link has disappeared. Pretty sure my score is coming out on Wednesday. Not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not lol.

Agree with gregoryhouse. Got 93% on the free 150 and would definitely say there is a good chance I failed the exam today. It is a ...cking beast... the worst is: you will recognize every disorder they present you within these 340-/+ questions....and you
still can't answer the question ...

do yall think taking test after the usmle july 10th deadline means the curve is not as generous?

I think the curve has already been set and should be similar to most test takers in the past year. The reason i say that, is think of how the last year has been with people getting less then 44 and as low as 20s question in their last block . So if you add up the total question people been getting in the past year with the new changes, it comes out to about the same total number of questions .

I think the new forms administrated from the change on will be a full 40 question per block without the swing in numbers people have been seeing in the last year .

Took it today and my test had 6 blocks of 44, 1 of 42, and the last 1 with 32 questions. I'm guessing not all testing centers switched over immediately. Just a heads up.

The NBME takes into account the fact that students with post-July 10th scores will still be competing for residency placement with students with pre-July 10th scores. Therefore, their highly clever and meticulously devised algorithms for devising your final scaled score will make sure that there are no particular harms or benefits to taking one test or the other. Every exam form will still be just as fair, just as even, just as able to be used objectively for medical school admissions, and, unfortunately, just as difficult as one another. Otherwise, how could someone objectively compare a 260 from before and after these changes?

they have years of data...i have a masters degree in applied math/stats and I have publications on pychometrics...with the amount of data nbme has they can keep the standard error of measurement quite low...while modifying tests , one wants achieve a lower SEM and also use the lowest number of items to achieve a desired SEM...So if they want an SEM of 5 ,based on the data there are estimates to the number of items needed to achieve the sem...if a person receives higher number of questions , it usually means that more itens are needed to achieve the SEM...So they have evidently found ways of lowering the item numbers and keeping the sem same..

ok thank you! sorry I was under the impression the new changes meant that it was going to be like 8 blocks of 30 or so questions which is why I was asking about the curve. Yes I know its a dumb question since obviously no one on this board knows for sure....but i figured i would ask

thanks for the responses

Yeah it's still early , they claim that it might take over 2 months for some centers to do the switch ..

I wonder how it will affect score reporting. Last year I took step 1 right after the format changed and I ended up waiting like 6 weeks or so to get my score back. Hopefully, since my test was the old version, I'll get my grade back in 3-4 weeks.

Possible since your exam was still administrated under old software. You should see it by 9/14 at the latest .. Goodluck

The announcement said all tests are held from July 10th through August & released beginning September 14th.

I'm wishing my scores would be released tomorrow, but I know they won't... June 27 was my test so I assume I won't see my scores until next week but I can dream. Anyone else frequently log into the NBME "just in case" even though you know with certainty your score won't be up because it's Sunday and you checked yesterday?

Medical school has made me a master in exercises of futility.

took mine june 27th, too. Interestingly my permit disappeared. (eligibility period til september - extended though). Should I expect results tomorrow? Was pretty sure the 20th would be the earliest possible...

took mine the 20th. Looks like we get scores tomorrow? Not sure to be happy about that or what. Felt terrible after the exam.

Whatttt, that's crazy. I took mine the 24th and honestly think I failed or did <215. My link is still up. Was your exam all 44q with one block 42?

Yeah mine definitely has no permit link either, but I suspected it was because I was outside my eligibility period (ended June 30).

I had 1 block with just 20, one with 42, rest was 44. I don't expect my results today. Not sure what is going on. And I certainly failed from my feeling. It was horrifying.

For those who took it the 20th, do you think we get our scores back today? I tried searching the 2015 thread but can't find the time that scores are typically released. But yes, I felt terrible after the exam as well. Didn't finish the last 2 Qs on 3 of my blocks and had to hurry and guess, and also, without divulging any test info, I thought that two topics in particular on the test were very difficult. Definitely some WTF moments and felt crushed after. My UWSA was >240. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey!
I've never posted on here, but I since there seems to be very few average students who post on here I thought I would let you all know my experience. I have been a pretty average American medical student through all of med school who was right at the national average on Step 1. Because of a lot of extenuating circumstances I became very nervous about step 2 and then felt like I was steam rolled after I took the test. I spent 4 weeks thinking I had failed it. Below are my scores on practice tests and the real test. Hope this helps others who felt like me!

NBME 4 (4 weeks before original test date): 198
NBME 6 (2 weeks before original date): 204, I panicked and pushed the test back two weeks
UWSA (2 weeks before new test date): 242
NBME 7 (1 week before new test date): 221, worried me but the education specialist at my school said I should still take the test
Actual Step 2 score: 238

Hope this helps/encourages some people as I really struggled with the wait for my score! Best of luck!
