So I was looking at the class of 2013 thread and a guy who interviewed on Oct. 30th got put on the wait list for AF on Dec. 15th. Looks like they are full. I don't know about Navy or Army, but I figured some would be interested in this info.

Does anyone know which services accept the most people off the waitlist? I know that there will be a lot of applicants that are accepted but scared of the commitment. Maybe those people who are not sure about a military career would be more likely to sign up for Air Force, Navy, or Public Health?

Maybe that's just wishful thinking since hearing about Navy being full.

Is it necessarily the case that if they're waitlisting people, that means the slots are full?

Wow, that was fast!

I thought I heard while interviewing that AF generally doesn't move as much as Navy or Army. I'm not sure, though.

I believe it is. My understanding is they waitlist all those who would have been accepted were there an open spot. If they are not sure about you, they would alt list you rather than put you on the waitlist if spots are still open.

I would agree that they wouldn't be calling today, but earlier in this forum someone who called the ad. office said they would be calling today :poke:

Yeah when I called last Thursday (the day the calls were supposed to out), the admissions lady said that because it was an interview day, calls would be delayed a week until the 22nd. And then of course calls go out on a Saturday, which leads me to believe that calls could go out anytime, but most likely will bookend a 1st or 15th date to some extent. Bottom line, tape your phone to your head while you sleep so that you're ready at ALL TIMES!

Anyone know how hard the waivers are to get with a minor heart case...i had a case of afib about a year ago (nothing since then), but received a waiver through rotc and did my officer's course last summer and everything....essentially they are saying that I qualified to commission as an Infantry officer, but can't go to school to become a doctor....messed up...best of luck to nov. interviewees tom!!

My guess is that it should be waiverable, if you had it waived successfully for USMC Infantry. Have you officiall been DQ'd? gotten the letter? If so, contact Rebecca Patterson immediately. She's really good, will get the ball rolling for you.

i have been qualified by waiver (through cadet command) to commission into any other branch through army rotc....but since USUHS makes you do another DoDmerb not matter what..they DQ'd me for this time (Ms. Patterson let me know today, but haven't gotten the letter yet)....i would think since i have one waiver it should transfer over.....thanks for the help!

What makes you say that? Just going off this forum it seems they just finished most of the October interviewees.

Yeah, disregard what I said....
The admissions office really convinced me that they would respond today.

I wasn't sure where to post this, either here or the spouses forum but I was wondering if any of you had your spouse go with you on interview day?
if so how was it? thanks Sorry if this is the wrong place...

I didn't have my wife there . . . but somebody else did (on 11/20). I think it's fine. They're very welcoming. You might wanna just give them a heads up. I think you're welcome to sit in on the general informational lectures. But your spouse (the actual interviewee) has to go to his/her interviews alone, of course! (that's only 1 hour out of the day, you can just hang out somewhere, plenty of people to talk to).

So nobody heard back this week!?! crazy. I thought they'd use this week to get back to more people.

A couple people brought their spouse with them on interview day. The staff and admissions people were very welcoming of them and the other interviewees were fine with it.

lets hope for another round of sat. mid-morning/early afternoon calls for nov. interviewees.....

That would be nice but I wouldn't expect them to get to the 11/20 people tomorrow. (we haven't seen any of the 11/6 or 11/13 folks reporting it yet)

I'd give 11/20 till February at the earliest. (I could even see it being in late February)

man, what i cant believe is that they're still interviewing people!! They wont hear that they've been waitlisted until may

Thanks so much!

I don't like it any more that you do. I was hopeful that we'd hear back as early as a last week initially but I really don't expect any of us (from 11/20) to hear anything till mid February now. (or at least me, maybe a few people will hear back in early February)

one more question, hopefully the last, sorry...
I have a nursing infant... my other two are staying with my MIL, did anyone take an infant...

3 kids, wow! that makes me feel less stressed having 1

If you want to partake in the days events (the lectures, the tours), that might be hard, as I'm not sure if there'd be anyone to watch your baby. Although maybe somebody could, that's something you'd definitely have to coordinate before you get there.

If you just want to hang out on campus, that shouldn't be a problem. There's plenty of room. (I think there's a clinic in one of the buildings, with a Peds area, so they may even have a lactation room. If not there's plenty of bathrooms and private areas that you could probably use.)

thank you very much! I'm not THAT stressed, I just shake and twitch a lot
I will just hang out really and be there to support DH

My wife had to wandered around campus with our infant during my interviews and the orientation session (~2hr) in the auditorium. Had I known, I would have arranged for a "campus tour" with the alumni association, or planned on other constructive activities.

You guys (and gals) who have children and even infants are amazing. That level of responsibility is unknown to me and many other med school applicants....I'm worried about taking care of myself in med school, haha, where you all need to worry about your families as well.....very respectable! 👍

just to clarify I am not interviewing... I am just checking out the area 🙂
we're staying at the Navy lodge so maybe I can just hang out there too.
thanks!

Quality of life and pay are top considerations for prior-service and/or older applicants. USU appears to have both. My mentor went through USU with 2 kids.

A commitment is a commitment, whether it is a commitment to self, significant other, pets, or patients. What's one more ball in the juggling act, right? 😀

Wow, I'm extremely sorry to hear that. You sound more than qualified & motivated. Maybe they'll go to the alternate list this year so if you really want to go, still get your medical clearance, etc. taken care of. Good luck.

Are stats considered when deciding whether or not to grant a waiver to USUHS? I read this in some of the application materials a while ago, but have never really seen it mentioned elsewhere.

You're talking about a medical waiver? I don't think so. I think they just look to see if your medical ailment would prevent you from serving in the medical corp.

I think it mentioned something about considering waivers for competitive applicants. Best bet would be to ask Mrs. Patterson. She is very helpful and can answer this question better than any other person on the forum.

thanks, but you forgot one minor detail: The outcome of your application

I read your profile. Sais you got waitlisted, for Army, true? Well congrats. A waitlist this early is almost like an acceptance (so I've been told).

Did you get your notification by snail mail? Any indication as to where you are on the waitlist (#2 vs #56)???

I guess this means Army is full.

haven't checked the forum in awhile, but was disheartened to learn one of my good friends here at the academy got waitlisted for air force. he interviewed in november so air force slots are definitely full, if there was any doubt before. good luck to everyone still waiting...

Woops. Certainly is a minor detail. Yes I got wait listed by SNAIL mail in a one page thin envelope. Sorry. They do not provide you with any sort of ranking.

Ok. So we know Army/AF are full. I don't think we've heard of anyone Navy getting a waitlist notification yet, but I'm sure they're near full too (if not already).

So it's snail mail for the rest of us!

what's the chances of getting in if you're waitlisted? I know it depends on where you are on the list but does it move quite a bit? or not really?

It generally moves a lot, significantly more than at other schools. If you look back on this thread, like 10-15 pages you can see a discussion of it. People were getting taken off the waitlist well into June and July

It's been awhile since I last posted on this forum, but I would like everyone's take on my situation.

yeah that is strange, you are justifiably concerned!

When they asked for your grades, did they want an official transcript, or did they just take your word-of-mouth? What was your service preference? Anything peculiar or especially unique about your app? Could be a myriad of reasons . . . but yeah they should've gotten back to you by now.

Roberie in response to your post, I also interviewed on Oct 23rd and did not hear from Dr. Calloway until this week. When I spoke with her on the phone, she ALLUDED to the fact that Air Force and Navy are BOTH not full, but may be full by the end of this week or next week. My personal opinion is that they have had a huge increase in applications this year (like all medical schools) and they are just less quick to give out acceptances, so it is probably true that your application is just still under review, and they are holding out a bit longer to decide. I know it definitely drove me crazy waiting so long, but I don't think it is necessarily bad that you have not heard from them yet. I hope this helps your stress level just a bit....

Hey Roberie,

I was in an identical situation as you are now a couple weeks ago. I interviewed October 2nd, and heard back a week and a half ago. They also requested my fall semester grades and once I sent it to them I heard back with ~2weeks. I suggest you keep waiting and hoping for the best. Good luck

hi. so, i just got an interview invitation today. my LORs had gotten lost, then I finally resent them, and was not expecting this at all. What do I do???? Any suggestions, recommendations are appreciated.

Thank you.

well, at this point, your best outcome is a spot on the Waitlist, and you'll probably be far down on it. That could result in a late acceptance (~August). So it really depends on your options.
