UT-Houston has sent out acceptances

Just received an e-mail confirmation from my pre-med advisor that if you were matched to UT-Houston that the acceptance letters are in the mail.

I did check with UT-Houston Medical School and this is true. Somehow, the letters got mailed a bit too early. They are valid letters from UT-Houston and it is my understanding that everyone that was accepted to UT-Houston will receive a letter. They are all in the mail.

I think that TMDSAS should go ahead and post the results of the match if one of the schools has already released the info. If they don't I hope all the other schools in the match head to the mailbox with thick envelopes today.

I had a note from the post office on my apartment door at lunch. Apparently, I have a certified letter at the post office to be picked up hopefully before they close today. Would Houston mail out certified letters telling you that you did not match with them OR only acceptance/congrats letters??

I assume they are sending them out to the same address where they sent interview invites. My permanent is the only address I listed anyway, so this wasn't really an issue for me.

Some got them on Monday, some Yesterday, and I have yet to check my mail...will be about ten more minutes, but not counting on anything.

Are you guys sure the UT Houston letters are not acceptances for special programs like md/phd or md/mba. Because this is pretty blatant violation of match rules. I know some people got acceptances to Tech's md/mba program recently. How do you know the Houston acceptances are for the md program?

I know that they are legit MD program acceptance letters b/c I got one! I am in no special programs.

A&M's premed advisor sent out an email saying that Houston messed up and shipped out their letters way too early. No other school would be following suit, the Texas match would still not be officially revealed till Feb 1, and to not call the TMDSAS folks b/c they won't tell you and were annoyed with the volume of phone calls they were receiving about all this.

I know that the good folks at UT Houston are only human, and humans make mistakes, but how can someone ACCIDENTLY send out like 1,000 letters? Does this strike anyone else as odd?

I guess a "mistake" could possibly happen. If you think about it, it takes time to get the letters prepared, signed, and stuffed into envelopes. Perhaps someone had set some of the completed letters aside to be mailed out on Friday and someone else came along and decided to do someone a "favor" by mailing them? I know that this seems highly unlikely, but such mistakes do occur.

I'm assuming I'm not on the list, but I'll receive the confirmation when I check the match status on Friday.

See I told y'all that UT-Houston sent them out, and you didn't believe me....some people.

As for sending out 1,000 letters it's more like 200-225. This is Houston's class size and they haven't sent rejections out yet, sicne they need to make sure that everyone who receives an acceptance wants to go to that school and not to some far off land. When I interviewed a frist year student didn't hear about his acceptance until late July. He had a couple of weeks to cancel what he was doing and make it to Houston for the first day. So we might have all summer to wait, unless you are already admitted to a Texas school.

I can't access the page either. This is probably because either

(a) They've replaced, or are in the process of replacing, the page that used to be there with the match results, but they're not going to open up access to the page until later, or

(b) The site is getting hammered with hits from people like us hoping the results have been posted early.

If it's (b), then that doesn't bode well for finding out the match results anytime soon; it's only going to get worse as midnight approaches.

Good point. 500 isn't really a large number of hits, but depending on their server and network capacity, there could be a slowdown if the hits are concurrent (i.e., all around midnight).
