I know similar posts have been made, just wondering if anyone had more insight now that CUSOM has been around for a couple of years. I have been accepted to both and found both schools to offer great opportunities. If anyone has interviewed at both, which school did you choose and why? Pros/cons of the school if you attend?
I am from rural North Carolina but have been living in Baltimore for the past several years. For me, the PROs for VCOM-CC : more ESTABLISHED, good stats (HIGH pass rates, but average for COMLEX scores is slightly below national average), big alumni network with 3 campuses, area around VCOM is near several large cities and overall is less rural than CUSOM (I liked having more going on around campus since I have been living in Baltimore), STRONG global health opportunities (I am interested in international health), more housing options near school and I would like to live nearby school. CUSOM PROs: GREAT facilities, setting up good clinical sites (but no one has done rotations yet) and bringing great residency options to NC, I liked my interviewers and the students I met ALOT (but I was sick for VCOM interview so that might have something to do with why I didn't connect with them as much), slightly closer to home, integrative testing which I think would be good practice for boards, several international opportunities (not nearly as structured as VCOM), near Raleigh, Dean states they have been scoring high on their practice COMSAE but not sure of exact numbers. One weakness a VCOM-CC student mentioned was their clinical rotations were not as strong as they were hoping for and were placed in a very, very rural area, which for them was a negative. They also didn't like the stacked exams very much. VCOM-CC hasn't published a match list, anyone know how they are placing? Otherwise, both cost the same, both have mandatory attendance and dress codes. Any comments on this? Torn between the two and want to make a decision ASAP so someone else can be pulled off the waitlist at one of these schools! 🙂 Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
