Hi everyone! I have a question....

All of the schools I'm applying to require the GRE to be taken on or before Oct 1st. Then, the scores must be sent either to each school by Oct 31st/Nov 1st/etc. depending on the school.

If I am taking the GRE for the first time on September 30th (I know, I know...please don't give me a hard time about this...), can I submit my finsihed application, say, tomorrow? Would it be okay for me to just put my "Planned" date of the test in my VMCAS application (I wouldn't be able to put my scores in since I haven't taken it yet) and then send my scores directly to the schools?

Don't you love how this whole application process just sneaks up :scared:. I swear I plan and plan and I still am behind the ball too. It happens but my two cents would be to check with the schools first and foremost.

The other advice I would have is wait until you have those scores to submit but that is just me. I know VMCAS is really against and you run a risk there too. So it's a crap shoot.

You may also check with GRE testing center to see if you could up your test date but I am not sure how that works as I know there is a cut off at some point as to changes as you get close to the test date.

GOOD LUCK! Hopefully all the running like a crazy person will be worth it for both of us! Now back to finishing my own app... I know, I know....:meanie:

I believe there is an option to say that you are planning to take the test on a specific date and submit VMCAS without the score.

The scores you ask the GRE to send at the end of the test will go to the schools, individually. Supplemental applications should ask if it is a planned test, unless the school specifically wants the registration number that you get in the mail from ETS. For instance, Illinois, wanted the registration number, but their last exam date was Aug 31st.

Hope this helps.:luck:

Thanks and good luck to you too!! 🙂

The only problem is that the only free day I have between school and my job is on Tuesday (the 30th), so I can't move my test date!

I want to send in my application before it gets too close to the Oct 2nd deadline, but I don't know if I can with just putting my planned date for the GRE on VMCAS with no scores (even thought the scores are later sen to the schools).

I think I'll just contact each school I'm applying to and see what they say...but if anyone else has any more advice I'm all ears!

Opps, I didn't see your post Truth74 before I replied to DrKsomeday. But thanks!

I think you should be fine just putting the exam as planned and submitting without the scores. I'd assume that's why you have the option to do that. I took the GRE earlier this month (no scores yet) and VMCAS told me to just mark the test as taken, leave the score section blank, and submit ASAP.

I don't want to give you any bad info so you might want to check. I'd just hate for VMCAS to go down and you not get your app in!

good luck.

I am in a similar confusion...here is what I have figured out:

When you get your scores for the GRE right after the test you get only the scores for the verbal and quantitative. You do not get the percentiles or your score for the analytical writing section. This is annoying because the VMCAS app has a required slot for percentiles and won't let you leave it blank. So, even if you wait until after you take the exam, I'm not sure what to put in the percentile box.

I took mine last Thursday and I'm hoping that I can get my written report in time to include it, but otherwise I am just going to say planned, I think? I am taking them again Oct 1st (ya...I rock) hoping to improve my abismal verbal score (it was *awesome*).

Update:

The person I talked to @ VMCAS said that even though this is the 1st time I have taken the GRE, I could just put my planned test date into the test section. I do have to send my individual scores to each school by their individual deadlines though.

Also, does anyone know the difference between the general test and the new general test? Am I taking the new general test on Sept 30th?

When I called VMCAS they told me that since I didn't have the percentiles I should mark the exam as taken but list no scores.

If you call ETS they can give you your scores & percentiles 9-12 days after the test date. This includes the analytical writing portion. It does require a credit card and costs 12 bucks, but was worth it for peace of mind for me.
