Waitlist movement c/o 2020

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The school I am wait listed at says if we do get called off the list, we have 48 hrs to give them an answer.

Emailed UGA and they told me they wouldn't have the list ranked til Monday

To everyone who's gotten called off the waitlist, add yourself to the waitlist survivors forum once the hype dies down a bit 😉

Would it be inappropriate for me to call my IS and ask why the last available IS seat was given to an OOS without any notification given to IS alternates?

I would think so. You'd think they'd have IS alternates for a reason...

I'm trying to think there's a better reason for this, but I end up just getting more angry...

Isn't LSU one of those schools that has a varying number of seats for OOS and IS? If they didn't meet the minimum they promised, I would definitely call and ask about that. If they did meet the minimum, I wouldn't call, it was probably a budget thing since I think you've mentioned that Louisiana is having budget issues.

How do you know that happened?

There's a seating chart in the portal that shows you how many seats get confirmed. On decision day it showed 65 IS, 15 OOS, and 9 Arkansas contracts. I was listed as a Louisiana alternate. It said explicitly I could not take an AR or OOS spot. Today it shows 64 out of 64 IS and 15 out of 16 OOS.

????

Well, I guess I'm just confused because for about a week after interviews it showed 55-65 IS and 25-15 OOS. One would think when they changed it to 15 and 65 that that was the amount of seats they decided on. If not, why were there alternates in the first place?

And if this is because of the budget, I really would've appreciated some transparency about what legislation is out there dictating this.

I guess the way I read that is that the want at least 55 IS and at least 15 OOS, so alternates are for making sure they don't dip below those numbers. I think it would definitely be fair to call and ask why 65 IS seats are not being given since it appeared that was the portal was indicating.

I mean but it said in my FAQ that they get the majority of offers accepted before April 15th. I just don't think they thought they would dip below 55, especially for IS. Maybe they just didn't have enough OOS to interview so they did have to adjust the estimates. I still think it could be a little more transparent.

Does anyone know if they make phone calls on the weekends?

I got off the Iowa OOS waitlist (number 29/90) today and will be declining my offer so if any of you are waiting on that school I hope you get it! I also got off the OOS waitlist at Auburn and will be accepting! Hang in there everyone!

Wow, they're really flying. Congrads on Auburn 🙂

Does anyone know if the OOS waitlist for VMRCVM is moving?

I'm on the IS wait list for UTK. I'm not sure where I am on the list, but I'm realistic that IS wait lists normally don't move as quickly as OOS.

Does anyone know if you don't get off the wait list, and apply again, do the schools tak the fact you were an alternate into consideration while choosing the next class. I just have to think that if you get so close as to get an IS wait list spot, that they would see your perseverance in the next Applicatiob cycle and take that into consideration.

Maybe that's just hopeful thinking!

I know this is a stupid question but, we've been told to email them to request our ranking on the waitlist. Should I just come out an ask? What do I say? Should I add anything else to the email?

They're probably getting a bunch of these, so no need to write them an essay. Just keep it simple.
ex:

Hello ________,

I would like to request my rank on the waitlist.

Thank you for your time,
Your Name

Thank you. I guess I'm just too nervous to find out.

My school wouldn't tell me

Thank you. I guess I'm just too nervous to find out.

I emailed my IS school and they were happy to send me my position on the wait list. Although, I was a bit sad to see how far down I was, at least I have a practical idea of my chances. My IS school also told us they will update the list starting next week by taking out those who no longer wish to be wait listed. We are to email them again for an updated number.

I would suggest if you are on the waitlist and don't get off to mention it in your personal statement next application cycle. My personal statement this year was chalk full about how I got waitlisted and accepted at western and then I got waitlisted at uga, rather than straight rejected like every other year.

Ugh I got an unknown phone call yesterday but no message. Fingers crossed! The wait list is killing me.

Waiting for phone calls can be tough, especially when you hear others have gotten them. I got an acceptance phone call from MSU literally the moment I gave up hope. So try to keep yourself busy and it will come 🙂

I received a call on Friday that I have been accepted IS at U of M:happy: I was number 10 on the list, was definitely not expecting to hear from them the day of the deadline! I am curious how far the IS list has moved.

I turned down my OOS position at ISU, so this will help move that list along!

Wow IS for UMN moves a lot!
I assume that may be at least partly due to the cost of tuition...? There's a few vet schools that are comparable or even cheaper OOS than UMN IS.

Congrats to everyone getting off the waitlists! To those who haven't heard yet... don't lose hope! :xf:

Does anyone know if the OOS waitlist for VMRCVM is moving?

I've read it moves a few seats here and there this year based on what I've read in the threads, but nothing offical.

Well, I take that back. I just got the official VMRCVM email saying they've seated the entire 2020 class.

Doesn't mean that people won't change their minds over the summer, but who knows what that level of movement is like?

Yeah I assume so. It's pretty high!

Congrats @Cmmore15 :soexcited:
