When I asked Kansas about hearing prior to April 15th, basically they said the only way that could happen is if they had already heard from a large enough majority to know for a fact that there will be seats available. But that just doesn't happen. You'd need a school that doesn't accept over their class size and all schools accept over their class size. Nobody likes to say out loud that in most cases over 100 people need to turn down their acceptance in order for the wait list to even be touched. But the reason nobody says it is because it happens every year, and there's no reason to sound scary. But don't count people that reject their seats because that doesn't mean anything.
Also not all schools rank their alternates, and even those that do, not all will tell you your rank. However I'm pretty much positive that nearly every school still has everyone separated IS and OOS and will end up with the number of IS and OOS that they always advertised that they accept in their final class count.

They can't offer an in state student a spot when an out of state student drops because the spot that is available is for a student who is going to pay out of state tuition.

Yup, most schools have IS and OOS wait lists but I'm pretty sure Davis does it differently than other schools! It's isn't explicitly stated on their FAQ but based of their admission process there isn't another way of doing it!

"If I’m granted an interview, how do you select your Class?
At the conclusion of the MMI interview process, all applicants will be ranked based on their MMI scores and offered admission based on their rank."

The last message they send on the applicant portal also included this statement, "Applicants were invited to interview based on GPA, GRE and PPI scores. Our admission decisions were based on a final ranking of MMI scores only".

Instate/WICHE vs out of state status are only considered for interview offers. Once you are offered an interview, the only factor for admission is MMI scores!
 
How does housing work if your Waitlisted? Do you go about trying to find housing for the school you placed your deposit at if you haven't heard by the end of April? I'm someone who would need a roommate I just like living with other people so not too sure how you would go about finding housing if your Waitlisted at a school that's your top choice.

Waitlisted at VMRCVM. Trying not to let the stress of living in limbo get to me. Already made an appointment with my local vet clinic to get shadowing hours. (I'm way heavy on the research experience, very little experience on the other side of vet things, unless owning 4 cats counts. I'm a champ at dosing cats!) Already know I need to retake the GRE to strengthen my quant score. I guess I have 2 questions:

Anyone know what the movement on VMRCVM's waitlist has been like historically?

Anybody else just trucking along like they have to reapply?

It's doable. I got in late May and had been communicating with students at the original school I was going to attend. I just let them know about my change of plans and they were fine with it (we hadn't committed to anything at that point). As for finding housing at my new school, I just joined the Facebook group and most people were still looking. I looked at several places with a group of people and then just settled with one roomie from my class and found a nice place off of Craigslist (great apartment, meh landlord...not the worst but not always the best either).

In most places, a lot of housing doesn't become available until June or later in the summer anyway so you'll likely be fine if it happens.

I haven't been accepted anywhere, I'm only on wait lists, so I don't have to deal with this, but my advice would be that you need to be 100% honest with anyone if you start talking to someone about housing where you put your deposit down. Wait until at least May and then if you haven't heard, maybe start talking to people, as long as they're fully aware of how likely you are to drop out if you are offered a spot at your top choice.

Yeah, I've pretty much decided to get into that boat. 4/4 waitlisted though I'm so far down on my IS waitlist that it's basically a rejection. So I figure making plans for experiences and looking into getting file reviews is better than nothing. At least I can say I've learned something from going through an application cycle.

Don't say that! If it's your dream then don't give up. It's hard on everyone who feels like their entire life is on hold. But it really does make you stronger. Looks like your am MD applicant? Did you apply to Vet med too?

I would not go to that extreme. It took me 2 tries to get into my IS school and a lot of veterinarians I know had to apply 3 times. The key is not to give up and to persevere. In the meantime, you can get more experiences and retake classes to boost your application. It is not impossible, but you have to keep on keepin' on!

Yeah, it's been hard not to let imposter syndrome take me down with the waitlists. Thanks for the reminder on getting file reviews, I need to do that for one school at least.
 
I didn't get in my first try, I wasn't even waitlisted. So I'd say all of you still waiting should be proud of yourselves! You are good enough to get in. I got in my second try. So do the file review and keep working at your dreams. You might even find yourself thankful for the year off, I was. I wasn't at first, and I felt like my life had no direction at times, but that didn't stop me!

Just wanted to follow this thread! I'm waitlisted at Auburn Tennessee Iowa and Tufts but got into AVC. I really love Auburn and Tennessee though so I'm hoping I get good news from one of those later on....
 
Does anyone know how much the OOS wait list for UPenn has moved in past years? I've checked past c/o Upenn forums and didn't find anything and can't find anything on their website?

It typically has moved a good bit in the past. I think my old roomie was like #18 or 20. Each year is different though.

Thanks for the info! So, in your opini0n do you think someone on the OOS list within the top 25 would have a decent chance getting in? I don't know where I am yet but I'm trying to make myself pick a number to were if I'm below it, I'll give up and accept my offer at my back-up school.

I mean, I would accept an offer if you have it by the April 15th deadline. It would majorly suck if you declined it for just a waist list spot. I'm really not going to even give you a guess because I've been screwed before and I was near the top of a list and banked on getting in and didn't that year.
 
Has anyone heard anything about the Tennessee OOS alternate process -- how quickly it has moved in the past? whether we can ask for our number on the alternate list? etc.?

I heard it really varies. I think it was 2 years ago they had a shorter waitlist ( around 50) and ran through it and had to call people from the rejection pile. At the interview Dr. Kirk said it takes about 5 people to fill one declined spot. I emailed Ms. Shepard when I heard I was wait listed. They called me back and I think I heard (i was in a noisy area) that dr. Kirk was planning to call alternates and discuss their position on the list in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if this is all of the alternates or just those that ask about their spot on the list.

Yay, I'm happy I found this year's thread. I got waitlisted by Mizzou at the beginning of February, and just heard that I got waitlisted by Illinois yesterday. Not a fan of the acceptance-purgatory.
 
Waitlisted at UF (IS) and Illinois (OOS) anyone have any input there? Illinois doesn't allow you to know rank so that BLOWS! UF never said if they do or don't. Anyone know if I could call and get info. Or know if those waitlists move?

Back when I applied, I got called off Illinois' list within the first week.

Thats whats such a bummer for me, I felt I did good in my interview. I felt we all enjoyed talking to one another so it was a huge bummer getting a waitlist spot 🙁 I'm reallly hoping but I also dont want to be disappointed again

I don't think UF reveals rank either. I was called off their waitlist (OOS) (I want to say it was prior to April 15 but to be honest my memory is fading already haha). I think UF went through like 4-5 of us SDNers the same day for the seat. Who knows how many they called that didn't post. IS waitlists almost always move less than OOS. Illinois OOS list will move, I guarantee it.

A lot of other schools have sent out offers prior to UofI, and students have heard from their IS schools or other OOS choices. If they have committed or didn't have UofI as their top choice (as in, they weren't waiting on UofI), they're going to decline. It will move.

Illinois was amazing, I loved loved loved the school. I would go to either my instate or Illinois. I would defiantly not be sad at all if Illinois was my only choice. So I am totally hoping to get off that waitlist. Do you have experience with U of I sending out acceptances earlier than April as well?
 
How long after a school tells you they have a spot do you have to reply back with an answer? Is it within the week? Couple of days? I would imagine they wouldn't give you much time to make a decision so they can move on down the wait list.

That I'm not sure of. I didn't know anyone prior to June or so (our FB page wasn't created until the summer!). I can tell you that even our IS list was moving a short 2 weeks prior to class, so things move!

UF wanted an answer from me right on the spot. She left me a voicemail, and I returned her call later. She gave no indication of "Let us know ASAP" or "You have 24 hours." It was "We are offering you a seat, do you accept?"

Okay. That's what I'm worried about. I don't have my phone with me during most of the day because of work, and I get off pretty late when most offices are already closed.

I don't think being unable to call back right away would cause you to lose your spot unless you just never called back. I think I called her back the next morning. Filling up declined seats can take all summer. They generally wait to hear an answer from each person before they go to the next person. Then someone who's accepted may rescind their acceptance, and they have to fill that seat....you get it.

Okay. That makes sense. I'm wait listed at my IS (technically not a real IS school since it's private) and at Illinois (OOS). Thanks for all the reply! I'm having mild anxiety attacks each day because of all the uncertainty 😕

Don't put your lives in hold for a wait list, guys. I was in the wait list two years. Finally, this year, I made the choice that I would find another path if it doesn't happen. Although I had an end game, I got accepted. Don't get hung up on this or you won't move on.

I was wait listed at Kansas. This was the first year I applied to Illinois.

I didn't say it to burst your hope. I said it cause I grew up with the mentality of hope for the best and prepare for the worst. False hope doesn't help anyone and while you guys should hope you get off the wait list, you should also prepare for the possibility it might not happen. Now is the time you should start thinking how to improve your application for next year and enacting that. The people who improve the most are the most likely to get in if they have to try again. And if you do get accepted, you just have those improvements for your own satisfaction and to use later.

Yeah I'm already been thinking about it and even looking at other schools to apply to next year. But it be really really nice of course to get in this year. I guess I just have to wait and see. Congrats about your acceptance though! Hopefully I will be joining you

Same here :/ I got so excited because some of my friends got in to Illinois before I got my letter. Created a lot of false hope.

Does anyone have info on movement of the KSU wait list over the last years? Or any other info about KSU's vet school wait list
 
I have given up my OOS spots at Purdue and Kansas, and from Midwestern and Western.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. Go do something fun! Nothing will change if you obsessively check SDN. 😉 Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and in the meantime, go treat yoself.

As far as I know the Penn OOS waitlist has seemed to move a good amount in the past, but for the past couple of years has barely/not moved. That doesn't mean you should give up hope though. Last year a couple of us SDNers were waitlisted (top 15) and even though the waitlist didn't move, we talked to admissions and were offered deferred acceptances into the next year's class.
That being said, I agree with orca that you should definitely accept a spot at another school before April 15 if you have it! Don't depend on the waitlist, but once you find our your number from Penn (I think you can do that relatively soon, definitely before April 15) then talk to admissions about it and see what happens. Last year Tennessee did not give exact numbers, but told you what bracket you were in. I was told I was between #30-60 on the waitlist and got an acceptance call a few days after April 15.
 
Is anyone asking for a file review for schools they are waitlisted at?
