Undergraduate Category: State school
Clinical Experience: 605 paid hours as a phlebotomist, 261 volunteer hours (this includes a medical mission trip overseas)
Research Experience: 450 hours in a psychology research lab, 2 first author posters (1 presented at a national conference, 1 at an international conference), 1 second author pub that is under review (did not mention in app, will send an update letter if published)
Shadowing Experience: 85 hours (internal medicine, wound care, allergy and asthma (both adult and peds), ob/gyn)
Non-clinical volunteering: 1100 hours, almost all hours with underserved communities
Leadership: co-executive director and volunteer coordinator for a free after school program, cabin leader for a summer camp for kids with disabilities, volunteer coordinator for a pre-health club
Miscellaneous: I also did a semester long program focused on health disparities and equities during undergrad. I will be taking a gap year and will be a substitute teacher at schools that served underserved kids during the upcoming year.
I have a very service oriented application with heavy involvement in underserved communities, and have emphasized my desire to work in underserved communities as a physician in my application. I am struggling with a school list, and appreciate all feedback. Thank you!
