Hey guys!

I wrote a message on the Wayne State Orientation thread, but then thought about having a formal Class of 2008 thread. Who is going to be my classmate? 🙂 I am excited to meet everyone this fall!

Emily

Hi!

See both of you in the fall. 🙂

I am doing the BMS Program - AKA: "close but no cigar." MS Program.
I will be in the same Biochem / Histo / Patho / Anatomy classes with you guys.
So please be nice and don't laugh at the stupid old guy moving from San Diego back to Detroit.

P.S. How 'bout them Pistons?

Keep hope alive!!! Did U send that LOI????????

Yes, I sent a LOI to the entire admissions committee, and I emailed separate letters to the dean and assiastant dean also. I know they don't want supplimental info, but I had to feel like I was doing something. The waiting is driving me crazy!

Good luck Man

I'm 99% likely gonna be attending Wayne State.

So wat do u guys think of Tayshaun Prince's superman block 👍

I need to figure out where I am going to live. We'll see...

For housing, you should try looking at the last few blocks in Grosse Pointe Park before Alter Road. Some very nice houses that are subletted within a great community that has many public services. It's about a 10-15 min drive to campus...straight down Jefferson.

Good luck!!!

pacers fan here!!!

What's the pricing????????????

Are you going to Wayne State, Icedcube? 🙂

Just so ya'll know I found out that the white coat ceremony is on Sat. August 7th 2004. During the "Family Weekend"

I am attending WSU SOM this fall!!! I hope to meet you all at orientation and such. I am getting kinda excited/nervous only about 2 more months!!!!! 😀

Congrats everyone for getting into a great school. I am planning on applying to Wayne St, but am wondering how hard it is to get in as an out of stater (I'm a resident of Oklahoma). I'm interested in WSU SOM because it would be a great place for urban medicine/clinicals. I'm wondering if its worth applying as an out of stater with a <30 MCAT score and a cum gpa of 3.78 and sci. 3.59? I'm wondering what you guys would think about applying as out of stater with not the best stats especially with a lower mcat score.
thanks and congrats again on attending a great school

911med I pm'ed you 🙂

I don't really know how competitive it is for out of staters. However, I am sure if you expressed your desire to serve in an Urban area and you unique interest in Wayne, I am sure that would give you an edge. As for your MCAT, I guess it depends how much lower than 30 it is. 29 or 28 I wouldnt worry about it, below that, i dont know.

Congrats to y'all for your acceptance! Enjoy your two years in G.Spot Hall!

From, someone in Class of 2004!
5 days until Graduation!

Anybody who lives in the D heard anything about Laffeyette Towers??????? Are they OK or hooded out. Any suggestions on any other student friendly living facilities?????

My girl has a studio there, its nice. There's security too, and even have porters downstairs. Its prime spot, cause its right off 75, and 10mins from Wayne state, and its downtown, and close to Greektown, Hard Rock cafe, and all the new stuff. They are redoin the city for the superbowl in 06.
Goodluck to all going to Wayne, i volunteered at Karmanos way back, and have several friends at Wayne med, plus I'm in the D at least once a week so even though I'll be at Mich state, still have much love for Wayne.

thanks I'm gonna call today about them. Anyone else with suggestions feel free to chime in

congrats all!! the "D" is a great place to live, been here all my life. the Lafayette Towers is a wonderful place to live, my aunt lives there and I visit alot. you should call and get the info and see what you think. good luck in med school.

I know a lot of people recommend Riverfront Towers. They are a little more expensive, but supposedly they are extremely nice and most apartments overlook the river.

I think it's time for a bump.

Congrats to ya'll, there's a pretty good chance I'll be there in the future (I'm startin' up the apps now). But on a serious note, the pistons are un-freakin-believable. I think I would trade a kidney or two for tickets to one of the home games.

anyone get any financial aid packages yet and how much did they offer you?

also, i have two pistons tickets available front row behind the rim 120b aaa pm me for details

Just got back from watching game 2... speechless.

Hey Brad, did you get financial aid info after you were accepted off the wait list or before? I turned in my fafsa a long time ago, but havent heard anything. Thanks

nada, zip, zero, stingy with dinero

I have not heard anything yet either.

I'm looking at 23K per year (out of state grad school) - FAFSA submitted a long time ago.

besides, Ghost Busters, who do ya call?

Nope nothing yet. I'm gonna go back and re-do my Fafsa though. I talked to the people in the fin aid office and they suggested I add my folks to it cause I might qualify for campus based aid.

Does any one know anything about Lafayette Pavilion??????? Is car theft a big thing in the D (downtown area)????

Hey Brad,

Sorry, I don't know anything about Lafayette Pavillion. As for car thefts, there were apparently almost 24,000 in Detroit in 2002 😱 !! But i'm sure certain areas of the city are disproportionately worse than others. The areas close to the school are supposedly relatively safe.

In case you're wondering, I got the above stat from here:

http://detroit.areaconnect.com/crime1.htm[/URL]

I'll also be attending Wayne in August. Right now I'm looking for apartments (online) in Royal Oak and Troy. Looking forward to meeting you all 🙂

car theft or breakins is a big problem in any big city. Just know where u park and keep ur valuables out of site. Car insurance is expensive in the city compared to rest of state unless ur not using a detroit address/

On anoda note, Deeeetroit Basketballlllll, I was at the Palace last night watching the Pistons turn the Laker's house into mere bricks and stones!!

Just another point about car thefts...

The area around the school is really not that safe, and there are a lot of car thefts. Its really expensive to buy parking in the school parking structure (around $450/year) but it is worth it. My neighbor who decided to park on the street had her stereo stolen, window broken, and a few weeks after it was fixed someone tried to steal her car and blew the transmission...so parking is definitely not a place to save money.

In other news, I happened to get a tentative exam schedule for first and second years so if any of you going to Wayne are trying to plan stuff for next year and want to know about when exams are let me know.

Alright, I am releasing myself from all liability regarding the accuracy of this information. I was told that this is the TENTATIVE schedule. But it shouldn't change too much (unless theres another blackout while you're in anatomy lab like last year!)

Anatomy/Histo 3 - All day 10/27

Anatomy 4 - All day 11/19

Clinical Medicine 1 - 9am - 12pm 1/20
Winter break 12/21-1/1

Biochem 1 - 10am-12pm 12/15
Physio 1 - 1pm-4pm 12/16
Biochem 2 - 10am-12pm 1/31
Physio 2 - 1-4pm 2/1
Biochem 3 - 1-3pm 2/28
Physio 3 - 1-4pm 3/2 (day before my birthday yay!)

Spring Break 3/8-3/16

Spring Break is actually gonna be March 7 to the 11 according to the e-mail that we got about a week ago.... Everything else looks good. Thanks

Man, it is gonna suck, I stand up in a wedding May 21st......2 days after exams

o.k., I'm getting a little stressed now.
June 21st, and nothing back yet.
I am on a different time schedule than you guys (start date Aug 30th) but I
am schlepping home from Cali and need an idea if I should pack PB & J's for the raod, or if I have the sweet luxury of Burger King on the drive.
C'mon money gods, grammy needs a new pair of Rockports.

do any of ya'll know of full/partial merit scholarships? how many available? also, i'm wondering what the stats are like for these lucky few

They offer a 50% tuition scholarship if your not killed in a drive by shooting your first year.

If it is only a flesh wound, then you get an official "G-Unit Kevlar Vest" autographed by 50 himself.

Well this is stated by someone who calls D-town their FIRST home and from someone who is leaving their pad on the beach in SoCal to come on home and get down to business. Finally.

C'mon Lotanna, you've got to feel the love here.

Besides, your gonna be WAAY up there in East Lansing/Grand Rapids.
Dodging cows instead of bullets.

p.s.
I'll send you my G-Unit bullet proof vest if it makes you feel any better.

Go Blue!
but go to State for the hotties.

love and kisses,
