Don’t know, but I am planning on having my file pulled later in the year to make sure that he hasn’t snuck one in.

If we are to believe the rationale that we were given for having to fill out the evaluations, he must have a file (at least on main campus). Do you think that we could have one of those letters put in his file? :meanie:

For those who care about completely unrelated topics... the Lions just fired Mariucci because of the Turkey Day ass-whoopin'.

How about getting rid of the entire front office while they are at it.

haha... yes, perhaps we should send him evaluation emails telling him how unprofessional it is to parent us around and how good of a job he's doing at it 🙄 .

Dr. Jackson e-mailed me at the beginning of the year and said that he had placed a letter of unprofessional behavior in my file because I hadn't completed the blood-borne pathogen module (which I had).

It ends up that it was a mistake since I had changed my last name about 2 weeks into school. He was nice and apologetic afterwards, but the first letter was rather rude.

I think they have to let you know that they are placing it in your file, but who knows

I had a similar problem. And then my financial aid didn't come in until October because of my name change as well. Geesh! I got married, I didn't enter the witness protection program. They ended up making me submit a copy of my old driver's lisence and SS card, AND a copy of the new ones, AND a copy of the marriage certificate - just for Wayne! The damn loan company didn't make me submit anything except a copy of the new SS card.

does anyone know when the pathobio and pharm post-exam review sessions are?
oh, and did the combo (1st + 2nd) exam grades come out

Greetings Y'all:

So I've been super lucky to have landed an interview at Wayne Dec 8th. I am honestly pumped and am really looking forward to it. I had spoken with Barbara in admissions in early November and she indicated to me that a package would be sent out via surface mail that included interview day instructions and student host information. To date... I haven't yet received it, and I'm attributing this to maybe some issues at 49th parallel?? (I live in Calgary, Alberta). I emailed the office and awaiting a reply.

Anywho the point of the story is this. What am I to expect on interview day? I had a look through the feedback -- the responses are pretty varied tho. I guess just show up and go with it. Let 'em know how it's done -- yea that's right. Accept me or else! 🙂
That part I can try and figure out but as for accommodation...
I would be forever indebted if any of you would be willing to help out with the student-host option, the night of Dec 7th. Understandably, many of you must be in extreme final exam mode now but it sure would go a long way for someone like myself who has had limited prior exposure to Wayne, Detroit, Michigan etc. I also have a bunch of Q's that are more person oriented. As much as it may be about saving $$ it's about gaining insights from current students -- more so than a tour would provide -- and it would definitely help calm things down before the big day.

PM or post to this if you have any suggestions. I appreciate your time.
Thank you very much!!

Khalil

hey did they post pathbio II yet? if so, what was the average? thanks kids.

the median was 82%, or maybe 83% I am not sure. The median for psych and pharm were both 86%
Our class is smart!

anybody remember off the top of their head which (if any) biochem/physio lecturers do not make their lectures available online (as streaming video)? thanks!

Biochem: Brusilow (no video, but had audio)
Physio: O'Leary (no video or audio, but audio from previous year)

Go to DiCarlo's lectures... they were the most fun.

January physio is, I think, the best unit of any class all first year. DiCarlo, Rossi, and ?Lawson? were all great.

Rossi's great, but the kidney is my nemesis.

so did anyone go to the honors ceremony, I kind of was curious on who got honors in our class

yep, actually for all years and grad students as well. There was quite a few people on the list actually. I didn't go, but I got to glance at a program. Anybody remember Rillema's little "woo-hoo for the 100% girl" aka "question girl"....no surprise there.

I was honored for being the closest to the pass line & having the most professional conduct letters from Dr. Jackson, Ph.d

haha... i see you didnt forget to add the PhD to the end of his name! 👍

I accidentally ordered 2 BRS pathology books, so I am selling one for $30 or best offer. PM or email me at kadams@med.... if you're interested.

yeha, hopefully they stay up and continue to put the others up. with that one developmental professor, they initially posted his first lecture, then took it down like a day later after he found out that they had posted it.

Does anybody have Dr. Ransom's e-mail address? She was my interviewer and I can't find her in the directory, and I want to get in touch w/ her.

Thanks

Can you give a first name? There are multiple Dr. Ransoms and Ransomes in the directory.

To ask the obvious; why do you want to get in touch with your interviewer?

Personal opinion is that doing so (unless the interviewer gave you their e-mail address, which it sounds like is not the case) might not be the wisest thing to do.

I would suggest contacting the admissions office if there are any changes in your application/qualifications and not bothering the interviewer.

Nah, she said if I had any questions to e-mail her but I can't find the address, that is all. The admissions office was closed when I decided i wanted to get in touch w/ her so that's why i figured i'd try here.

And I'm sorry, Her name was Dr. Elizabeth Ransom, otolaryngology.

thanks

Where the heck did everyone go? No one's ever on the new Wayne State forums.... and everyone left here! I'm so lonely..... 🙁 just kidding. But seriously, what happened to the discussion?

Everyone was off being OCD and cramming for their exams (like you should have been 😛 ). Now that those are over the second years should start reappearing and tomorrow the first years should too.

isn't it great that it is over. I am just happy I don't have to study for the next 2 weeks.
we should all meet someday in person. It's just funny that we've been talking on this forum for a year now and we still don't know who we are talking to, even though we go to the same school
peace out

I definitely think we should...eventually. But certainly not yet. Maybe at our graduation party, we could arrange something where we could all meet in a specific area and introduce ourselves to each other. We have another 2 1/2 years of anonymous posting to enjoy yet.

Merry Christmas everyone. Just think, second year is half over.

That test was real fun, especially since I had food poisoning the last two days. I wasn't able to study that much, and now I'm thinking I should have taken the makeup, but I just wanted to be done SO BAD! Have a good vacation everyone!

1 more test to go for me until break... 16.5 hrs until vacation!

Biochem was silly easy, that means physio is going to punish us.

Karma is a biotch.

I suppose the answer is somewhere in all the posts, but I honestly don't have the time to check all of them. Do you guys have note services? do you get lectures on MP3's . How often do you guys go to lecture? Wayne state is my top choice and I have noticed that alot of schools have these services.
Thanks.

Rob

Tha school gives you your notes before the class starts. In some of the classes, this is the only material you'll be tested on. In others, there are textbooks as well. Most lectures are taped and posted online at our blackboard site, so a lot of people opt to stay at home and watch the lectures there. The quality is pretty good, I believe it uses Windows Media Player (which you can download for free).

I go to the majority of the lectures unless I don't like a particular professor or am just too lazy to drive into school that day. I think about half our class attends lectures regularly and half just watches from home.

There's also now a third type of course - where the school buys you the book instead of notes, and everything that you have to know is what's in the book - this is Biochem this year.

As far as going to class - the school is pretty clear about the learning objectives for the classes, so really if you aren't an oral learner, you can avoid lecture all together. I'm an M1 and haven't gone to or watched a lecuture in a couple months and I'm doing just fine.

Any of you MSII's buy the heme book? Do any of you MSIII's and IV's recommend it?

katrinadams9 said:

I bought it since Mark's review CD from last year said that the notes were horrible and he used the book to clarify concepts. I just bought it used off Amazon for like $18.

did anyone go to that research syposium for med students?
who won it?

Have any of you ever taken a makeup exam? How do you go about arranging for it? What kind of excuses do you need in order to qualify for one?

I've been really sick for the past two weeks and am seriously considering taking the makeup heme exam... but I don't know if a 2 week long cold will cut it with the admin. :scared:

I think you have to be sick on the day of the exam or show some compelling reason, like death in the family, kicked out of your house a day earlier, or something that made it impossible for you to get to scott hall on the day of the exam.
I did hear though that some people just show up late and say something like they had car trouble and get out of it. So I guess you can do it but you have to be creative.

anybody care to give any advice about the first clinmed exam? anybody remember anything that was tricky? i heard it was a lot of statistics and not real bad. a few tricky questions here and there.

There was lots of statistics but nothing difficult.
You have to know what OPQR.... they will give you scenerios and ask you what each means.
And then there are the numbered stuff, the questions are going to be something like all of the following is true except, .....
It's the easiest exam you are going to take this year and the average is going to be really high, from personal experience I think you should worry more about the class participation grade since that is what is going to determine your grade.
Good luck, from what I remember you have one more hard exam, the biochem one, and the rest of the year won't be that bad

I am starting to love pharm, didn't expect that

I guess it's my own fault that I will be failing that pharm exam... didn't look at any of the pharm stuff b/c I decided to focus on the heme exam instead. Think I just shot myself in the foot on that one. Whoops!

thanks! i think you just restored a little bit of my optimism by saying there is really only one really hard exam left... 🙂
