Hey 2nd years-

I can't find the info we got for the required ethics lecture, and I have to go tomorrow. What time does it start and how long does it go? I think I remember reading it was 9-12 in Blue.

For those that went the 13th, how was is? Let me guess, stupid. They find the most creative ways to waste our time!

You must also attend a session in Blue Auditorium on either April 13 or April 25. You are not assigned to a specific day and may come on either day. You must bring your PDA to this session as it will involve an audience response session that will utilize the PDA. The schedule for these session is as follows:

9:00 lecture - "Pain Assessment and Management"
10:00 lecture - "Clinical Ethics"
11:00 Interactive Case Discussions in Clinical Ethics

I have my PD final tomorrow, and only have one absence to burn - hopefully they count these as one absence instead of three

And the rhetorical question of the day is….

Is it ethical to intentionally skip a required lecture on ethics?

Not sure that word of that incident has made it to the second years.
So now that we are all curious; do tell.

It's 9-12 of the most boring re-hashed stuff. enjoy

Hey ddmo!! what's going on? are you ready for your summer vacation? Just wanted to say hello to ya. 😀

if i get the story wrong, someone please correct me- as i heard it second hand. Apparently Dr. Levine wanted to demonstrate hypotonia/weakening of muscles that might be present in a parkinson's or elderly patients. That same day she had another prof's group in her clinmed class as well. So she picked the smallest girl from the new group and asked her to stand up. She complamented her outfit, then pushed her and she went stumbling across the whole room, almost falling down.

Now, if a guy prof would have done that to a girl student... there would have been a lawsuit, lol.

Summer vacation????? You mean the 4 days I get before studying for the boards, or the 7 days after. Not much of a vacation, but will be much enjoyed. At this point I'm just ready be done for the year and start on the boards to get them out of the way.

How did the premed symposium ever work out?

Next time we get a summer vacation is retirement 😛

What's the word on the required seminar this afternoon? Katrina was saying on blackboard that it's cancelled, but there's no official email (and email is working).

Yeah, that's pretty accurate re: Dr. Levine. It wasn't anything malicious, and really broke the ice in a last-minute clin med group rearrangement, so I hope nobody got the wrong idea!

I hope all the first and second years are enjoying their impromptu day off! I hear power was out in Scott Hall & the Library, but there were sketchy rumours of at least on hospital outage - anyone know for sure?

I just heard on the news that some of the hospitals don't have power either. I thank God for the incompetence of DTE because now we don't have to go to the neuro clinic day, and it's not going to be rescheduled.

Edit: NM. Just got Dr Jacksons E-mail.

Only thing is... I can't call in to find out if I have been rejected or not! I am already nervous enough, but now I have another day to wait. :scared:

I agree whole heartedly - thanks to the skillful work of the DTE people, I was 5 days behind when I woke up this AM, and I'll be five days behind when I go to bed - I'm giving myself the rest of the day off, lookout couch, here I come

Shangal said:

This seriously made my week. Some precision timing on the part of DTE, they get big ups from me.

Was anyone at the lecture this morning? I'm wondering if I'll be able to watch the pharm lecture... didn't the power go out during the lecture?

Shangal said:

At least until they announce when the rescheduled lectures will be.
Considering how they managed to screw us with the rescheduled lectures on the day of Hazlett’s funeral, I am predicting that the rescheduled lectures will have us starting at 7AM on at least one day.
On the plus side at least we don’t have to deal with the clinic day – really hate those since they are usually worthless, for me.

Edit: just saw the e-mail from Dr. Jackson. I’m surprised that it is only going to be a 8 AM start. But Friday is going to be one long day.
Also, it would have been nice if they had rescheduled the general anesthesia lecture, I was actually enjoying it and maybe even learning something.

I was there and it was pretty good... until the power went out. We were only 15 or 20 minutes into the lecture so there is a lot that wasn’t covered. I doubt that they’ll post the bit of the lecture that happened before the blackout.

Hamburger, hopefully you will get your acceptance letter tommorrow. Sure that will be a great day for you, but it won't be as good as having a day off from med school

OH HELL YES!!!!!

WSU School of Medicine classes and meetings are cancelled for Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Scott Hall. Faculty, staff, and students should not report to Scott Hall. Minimal emergency power is running essential equipment. Researchers can access Scott Hall to check on their equipment. This message will be updated at 3pm on Thursday.

2 in a row baby!!!!

Wonder how they'll reschedule all this now?

Brings back the feeling of snow days in grade school. I wonder what this means for those of us who are missing the last clinmed before the clinmed exam.... Don't some people have clinmed at places other than scott hall? hmmm...

From blackboard:

Scott Hall will be closed on Thursday 4/27/2006 as well, so further rescheduling will be necessary. We are looking into trying to move the exam back. Further announcements of rescheduling will follow once we know when Scott Hall will re-open.

YEEHAW

Yes, I'm curious as well - I have a clinmed session off campus - on or not on? If anyone hears, post away please. Knowing Wayne and Clin Med, they'll tell us tomorrow at about 8 am that all small groups are cancelled

"Dear CM1 Students:

All Clinical Medicine Small Group 7.2 sessions are cancelled for
tomorrow (April 27h) due to the cancellation of classes caused by the
power failure in Scott Hall. More information will be provided Monday.

Dr. Popp"

I also got an email from my small group leader saying that we weren't going to be meeting again. Perhaps, he meant that he wouldn't be able to make the make up though.

Thank you, but that's if it is an acceptance letter ;[ I have this bad feeling of rejection. The delay has just continued my nervousness. However, I can understand your love of no school! Who doesn't love a "snow day" especially when the weather is actually fantastic?

Wow. Reading blackboard comments really makes me laugh. I think our class is in dire need of some time off. Too bad we have to study for the friggin boards instead of laying on the beach all summer like we deserve.

You guys do realize that by pushing the exam back, our release from Scott Hall will be delayed as well...right? Sure, we get a couple days off now, but I would have preferred more of them in between the last exam and when step 1 studying starts.

My guess is that they put the exam Wednesday morning, and push everything half a day (since Friday is open / "study day")

Hey ddmo!! Wow sorry about the short vacation, but I guess some days are better than none. Good luck with step one studying!! 👍 The symposium is going to be held on 4/29 so we haven't attended yet. I am looking forward to attending to make sure I have all my questions answered and to meet some of the current students. Anyways, just wanted to say hello and see how everything was going with you. I am done with finals so I am just going to be enjoying the next two weeks out of school. 😀 Talk to ya later!! Have a good one.

If we are to believe what the news had to say tonight, we can all thank some idiot contractor for cutting some underground power lines going to WSU-SOM and part of the DMC.
Bet it was interesting trying to evacuate patients without power (after the backup generator broke down) – glad I wasn’t in the hospital to have to help with that one.

So what was the deal with the gas email being sent to about 500 different list servs this morning?

How the hell does someone get access to that many lists?

oldjeeps said:
I'll stick with my earlier guess of some 7AM lectures.

ONLY 7am? How about a 6am-8:30pm day on Friday, all in Blue with no break for lunch. There are literally 14 1/2 hours of class for Wed-Fri, including the pharm lecture when the power went out.

You expected something else? You can't have forgotten, after everything that's happened this year, that we are surrounded by incompetence.

I am starting to hate this matt kid from class,
I think if he really wants to take it on tuesday, they should give him the option of taking it earlier, but I'd rather take it on wednesday morning. Why the hell is this guy speaking on behalf of the whole class when I never even met him
ba humbug

He's saying that because most people on blackboard are saying keep the exam the same. Also, we're not sure if the prof's are even looking at blackboard. If you have a different view, email it to Dr. Jackson too.

Unlike Matt and alot of other annoying people, I don't send mass emails to the class and speak on everyones behalf. And besides, if I do send one I am going to insult Matt, and I don't want to be dramatic

I wasn't saying you should email the whole class. I was annoyed by that too. I just think that people who will be upset by a move or keeping it the same should email Dr. Jackson or the course directors to have their opinions voiced. It's pretty useless to just complain about something unless you're going to do something about it.

Blah. Got an email from the Admissions office (don't know how)... placed on the alternate list. 🙁

Does anyone here know how the waitlist works? Do I even have a chance? I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks.

Have to agree with Shangal here... this is ridiculous. I, for one, used last night to drink a six-pack and watch Maury Povich figure who the father REALLY was. I did that because the exam was supposed to be delayed. If these whiners get it moved forward again, I'm going to be severely pissed.

That USMLE studying schedule thing is a crock... if people didn't give themselves so much as a half-day of flexibility in their study schedule then I fear for their scores. Who starts studying THE DAY after our finals? Come on, be realistic. People are complaining for the hell of it now.

My two cents.

For those of you that haven’t see the coverage blaming a contractor for the outage:

Honestly what the hell does it matter if the test is Tuesday or Wednesday, chill people, if you think Wayne is preparing you for the boards you'd better wake up, pick up a board review book and realize what is emphasized on the boards is not emphasized at wayne. If you want a good board score study now for the boards pick up Kaplan, BRS, whatever you're going to study and start learning it now, no one is going to hold your hand this summer!! It seems that as long as the school year ends on May 10th both sides would be happy, and secondly none of our opinions matter, it's wayne, it will be done is some convoluted manner that screws boths sides of the debate in the end. Just relax, enjoy the day, we've only got 2 weeks left.

Most spot-on post on blackboard so far (and no, it wasn't me).

I still like my original idea of just pushing everything a half-day -- exam on Wednesday, lectures into next Friday morning, we still finish on the original end date. Win-win?

Lord knows what happens if power's not back Friday though. Then we're all screwed.

just a small correction to this: most of the posts on blackboard are saying to keep the exam the same. Since most of them are coming from “anonymous” we have know way of knowing how many people actually feel that way.

Don't worry! Each month, when the committee meets, they go back through the alterantes, and can choose to pull from the alternate list. So, keep checking back with them each month.

I was put on the waitlist for a month. Now, take this with a grain of salt, as there is noway of knowing if this helped my waitlist status, but I did some things that may have moved my place faster. I called the admissions office, asked questions, came back for another tour and sat in on a class. I talked with Dawn about housing arrangements. I showed my interest (which was sincere, btw). The admissions office was more than happy to answer my questions and fit me into their tours. It was no biggie. So, again, no idea if this helped at all.... but it can't hurt, and it's better than sitting around worrying.

Also, I hear the waitlist moves quite a bit over the summer.
Good luck!!
