Phew. Well it's done... And now already thinking about opening the results I just want to puke! This is the part of the year that stresses me out the most... so if I'm scarce on the forum, it's because I am one anxious cookie.
Everything feels like it went well, and hopefully going in with a higher BFY will help me out this year. But it's still such a horrible feeling to wait. If the snow would finish melting I could do some serious run therapy with the dogs. I'm turning into that chronic gym-goer.
Best of luck to everyone else! I hope we're all excited first-years in the fall!

So quiet on the thread here... What are everyone else's plans for the summer? Is anyone going anywhere/doing anything cool?
 
I got a summer research internship in cattle genetics 🙂 Lots to learn, but so interesting! (genetics is my major and grad school is kind of my plan B)

My summer definitely depends on the news I received in the middle of June on whether I get in or not!
 
Is anyone else in S'toon this weekend for interviews this week? the weather is amazing here today! Keeping calm, keeping calm... hahaha.

This summer the vet clinic I volunteered at took me on as a vet assistant! Did my first week last week, was lots of fun 🙂

It is beautiful here...finally! Pathetic that there is still snow on the ground though. Are you working at a vet clinic in Saskatoon?

Don't know if you've done it before or if you signed up, but the tour was really informative. Very cool to see the facilities available, and it was lead by Dr. Grahn. Nice way to meet a few other terrified candidates as well!

(P.S. You're going to do fine.)
 
Jumper girl, I'm not seeing any snow?? Maybe I'm not looking in the right places... I've only really been to the school/malls in the area. I'm actually working at a vet clinic in St. John's NL where I did my undergrad haha. Are you working at a clinic around here?

and thank you nutty club 🙂 I have signed up for the tour! I'm excited as I've never seen the campus. This is my first application to the schools so I haven't been through this before... eep

The internship is through the U of A, and I'm working with Livestock Gentec.

That'll be great experience. Genomics is the future path for a lot of dairy herds.

Are you applying to WCVM and UCVM?
 
I'm a non-trad and my past is... complicated. I'm applying to UCVM for sure, and currently talking to WCVM to see if I have any kind of shot there.
 
thenuttyclub: no I'm not applying to AVC, my time living out here I have been a student so my residency is still alberta!

Braki: Yes we totally did!! I was one of the three girls who looked identical hahaha. was kind of odd how three of the four of us touring had identical haircuts :meanie: Small world! I think it went well, so hard to tell! Guess I will know in a month!

I've been tipped off that perhaps it's not a good idea to share this information! whoops. hahaha 😉 I doubt we'd all have the same interviewers, but to be on the safe side I suppose!

Too bad, although I guess if you had, you'd not be on this thread if you got in anyways! Why does AVC get to hear back so early? 🙁 Also, amen to not knowing! Glad to hear it went well, though. I hope we're in the same (excellent) position in a months time. :luck:

Only the international applicants to AVC hear back early. The Atlantic applicants are going through interviews now until the 2nd week of June. When I applied last year I got my acceptance from UCVM almost 2 weeks before I heard from AVC.

Waiting is the worst part. Good luck to everyone and try not to go too crazy from waiting!
 
Does anyone know if UCVM contacts successful applicants in any other way besides snail mail?

I'm non-trad as well. I didn't interview at UCVM last year, but got accepted into WCVM. So you may have a shot! It's worth looking into anyway.

They normally have the same interviewers by province, but switch it up each year.

Thanks, that gives me hope! One of their admissions people has said that if I scan my old unofficial transcripts and send them to her she'll look them over and let me know if it's worth applying. Doing that this weekend.

I wonder why? A fair chunk of the faculty is involved with interviews, I don't know how it could change anything just knowing who is interviewing. I guess maybe if people comment on them, and then other people have that same interviewer later... makes sense, I guess.
 
Those second rounds are coming out soon I bet! I see they've updated the "message of today" to only be relevant to second rounds. Good luck everyone!

I think that's exactly it. I've heard from students that are trying to get a peek for friends/relatives who are applying that they get shoo-ed away very quickly. I think they want to eliminate as many forms of bias as they possibly can. If you walk in there all brushed up on someone's research... well... they may find it flattering to say the least 😛

In other news: GOOD LUCK SECOND ROUNDERS 😀

haha if I were an interviewer and someone came in all brushed up on my research I'd be suspicious to say the least 😛
 
Looking at prices of flights to Saskatoon ...

OHGODWHY

If I get a second round interview, it's gonna cost me like $500 just for the flight ....

🙁 They better not reject me after that!

How bad is your car on gas? Maybe you and a few friends could take a roadtrip. 😛 I drove up to Radium from Regina in September for a wedding... and gas total round trip (including a brief foray in Calgary to visit my brother) was only around 300... then we split it 4 ways. I drive a Nissan Cube... so it's pretty efficient. Still, maybe you can have some fun and make a cheaper excursion with some buddies?

True, but it's kind of hard to get like 3-4 vacation days with less than 2 weeks notice! 😛

(Also technically I don't have a car ... so that's a problem as well, though I'm sure my parents would let me borrow theirs.)

Where are you looking for flights? I usually go to the WestJet/Air Canada website instead of third-party (Expedia, etc.) since it's usually cheaper. I hope there's a sale for you! $500 is way too much. 👎

May 16, baby. I can only assume they HAVE to go out this week .... but I think the admissions staff is home for today so we can breathe easy until tomorrow. 😛

As for flights, I was looking at WestJet (sigh) but if/when I know what's happening I can play with the dates and see if that changes anything. Flight booking is weird.

I think mine we late last year, after the 15th I believe.
