WesternU C/O 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ahoy there! I just got a Western email this morning (OMG), but they only gave me the dates of Feb. 6th or 7th for an interview. I chose the 7th, and Im waiting for a response. Anyone else going on the 7th? Anyone else under 25 and can't rent a car? Should I just take a taxi from the Ontario airport to a hotel near campus?

I am staying at the Shilo Inn which has both a shuttle to and from the airport, and the school!! Try there!!! 😀

And CONGRATS!!

For those of you who are interviewing at Western...you may want to check out this post 🙂

How To Prepare For A Behavioral Interview

Thanks, Sharon. Been following your entries on facebook for a while. Lots of great insights and advice. Much appreciated. Hopefully, I will be interviewing at either Western or Davis in the next couple months. 😀

For everyone else, I just got my application complete email today. Seems like things are ramping up. Good luck.

And my birthday (V-Day) falls right inbetween! As long as I don't get my rejection on my birthday, I'll be OK.

I hear you, box, I was/am worried about that too, esp with Davis. I got my rejection from davis on 2/16 last year. My bday is on the 21st...

Hopefully there just won't be rejections this year 🙂

Are you interviewing on the 7th?! We're both from FL! Oh and which Shilo Inn? I REALLY need to use the shuttle, I cant afford the plane ticket, the hotel AND a bunch of cab fare.

Good luck to everyone interviewing and those who applied to Western. After being offered an interview this week I have declined the offer. Hopefully one of you will be selected for the slot!

I'm all packed and ready for my Cali trip...my flight is at 6:45am (CST). Hope I get to meet a few of you this weekend 🙂 Good luck to everyone!

Shilo Inn Diamond Bar, I interview on the 31st. Where in FL? I hear you on the cost. Paying for this trip and 3 others is killing me! 😱

Hi everyone!

My name is Kelleen and I have been lurking around here for quite some time and have been meaning to join everyone in the conversation, but just continuously put it aside "for another day." 🙁 I guess working full time and being a full time graduate student took over! I just wanted thank everyone for all their postings as you have eased me in knowing I am not the only one having worries!!

I flew in yesterday from Florida and have been stuck working on school work, but am now going to go get my hur did for tomorrow lol. If anyone would like to get together for an early dinner and perhaps some conversation to ease our nerves this evening, shoot me an e-mail! I have a rental care and would be willing to drive those who don't have any transportation.

I am super excited and nervous for tomorrow! This is my first interview ever and am kinda freaking out! Glad to know I am not alone! Best wishes to all and can't wait to meet everyone!

~Kelleen 🙂

I'm in Pomona now; I just walked around the campus and found my way around the area. I wouldn't mind meeting up with anyone for dinner as well.

I will be interviewing tomorrow as well. Unfortunately I won't be in Pomona today to meet up with any of you guys. I'm really excited & a little nervous about our big day tomorrow too! 😀

Let's get together! I am actually in Ontario staying at the Ramada, but rented a car. Where should we meet?

Good luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow!! If you're interviewing in the afternoon, I'll be one of your interview hosts. 🙂

Just wondering if any of you who got interviews are willing to share your GPA, GRE scores, and amount of animal/vet experience?

just got my interview invite!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
i reaaaaally hope i get the dates i requested! 😱

Just wondering if any of you who got interviews are willing to share your GPA, GRE scores, and amount of animal/vet experience?

I have about 2000 hours in large animal (horse/ livestock) experience and another 1300 in veterinary hours. I took the GRE twice and improved my score by about 100 points, it was still around average though. My GPA was on the lower end but Western takes out every class you've repeated and doesn't count it against you. I did really well in upper division coursework as well.

Oh let's see...Overall GPA 3.23, Science (as calculated by Western): 3.13 and Prerequisite (for Western only): 3.29.

GRE scores...470Q, 570V, 4.5A

Vet experience 6000+ hours (at time of application. I'm still working at the same clinic.)
Animal experience 35,500 hours. (I grew up on a cattle ranch & showed steers/heifers for 11 years.)

Speaking of interviews, I thought yesterday was fantastic. I'm in love with the school. 😀

thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed your interview 🙂 I'm super excited! how long did it take from when they offered you the interview to their response with your specific time?

errr I don't feel great about sharing my specific stats yet but my GPA was way low (I went to a rreaaaallly hard undergrad which was luckily a research powerhouse) but I have really, really extensive research experience and less clinical experience
my GRE score was above 700 verbal and close to 800 math
good luck!

I'm glad you had a positive experience yesterday, it was nice meeting you very briefly!

And i hope all the other candidates had a great experience too and good luck to the upcoming interviewees!

Mine was confirmed the same day... I was invited on a Wednesday and it was confirmed later that afternoon.

I did have a great experience, and it was good to meet everyone! Just keeping my fingers crossed now.:luck::xf::luck:

Western is such a great school 🙂 I loved my interview and am so enthusiastic about the program. Good luck, everyone!

i'm so relieved this past weekend has come to an end! flying from new york (& being a first time flyer) was so stressful & i was absolutely terrified for the interview. not a fan of behavioral based questions. 🙁 i'm trying to stay positive but march 15 is such a long wait!

as for stats, i think my cumulative gpa is around a 3.5 (if you include vet tech classes. not sure if western includes them or not). my GRE was an 1140. science gpa was ~3.3. not sure about western prereqs gpa. too lazy to calculate! as for experience, at the time of applying, i had ~1400 hrs SA veterinary. ~200 hrs LA veterinary. for animal experience hours i only put a few hundred, although i've had much more.

I wish I could interview again. Stress free (lol, since I am already a student) and then I can just chat with people and then go out with the awesome third years again. 😀 I had a great time last year.

I absolutely loved everything about the school! The students were so enthusiastic, the professors were so nice, and I really like the unique curriculum WesternU provides. My interview went fantastic (in my opinion haha) so I am really hoping I'll get in! I definitely have my heart set on WesternU now!

I'm so happy everyone had a good time !!! You also can't beat that gorgeous weather (it usually isn't like this in Jan.... More like rain and fog). Hoping to get an interview this week!!

I had a wonderful experience this weekend, and I would be thrilled if I got accepted!
Many thanks to you- and your fellow vet students- for being so helpful and welcoming. 🙂 it was great to meet you as well!

My hopes for an invite are dwindling. I know they're "not done yet" but seeing others go on interviews or get invites and not seeing anything... I feel like this cycle is done.

hey fromthebox, don't give up just yet! my friend got her interview invite over the weekend, so they're still sending some out and there's still hope 🙂

Don't get discouraged. I only received a notification that my application was complete and being forwarded for review a few days ago. I am pretty sure that the cycle is far from finished and will be more interviews to come. In fact, it sounds like Western got backlogged a bit due to technical difficulties and is just now catching up. Stay positive until you hear otherwise. Still plenty of folks with skin in the game. 😀

Western is so awesome I just want to explode!!! haha. I would just like to say, it warms my heart a lot to see so many candidates enthusiastic about the Western program. I can speak on the behalf of Western alumnae that WU can be treated as a bit of a black sheep within the veterinary world, but that their program is obviously working. And there are people like us that would be so, so thrilled to join it!

I had my interview this last Saturday! It went great! This is my second year applying to vet school (and Western U) and my first vet school interview EVER!!! It was an amazing experience. I loved the campus, faculty, etc. I hope everyone else has the same positive interview experience that I had. Now come oooooon March 15th!!!

Anyone here with a car that wants to take me to In and Out Burger? I tried to bribe the shuttle driver at my hotel with a burger, but he wasn't so sure lol... I WANT SOME IN AND OUT BURGER!!!!! :hello: :help:

Almost tempted to, but I live 45 mins away, and I'm running around like a nut preparing for Tufts. And I have work. BOOOO

Hi everyone, I am a former lurker trying to reform my stalking ways. I wanted to say:

1. I got my application complete email today, so Fromthebox, they are still working hard down there. Give them some more time to sort through everything before giving up.

2. Emiloo4 - get your burger "animal style." In-n-Out is my absolute favorite, and is a great reason to live in CA.

Hopefully, more interview notices are coming...

.

Welcome!! What does "animal style" mean? You are the third person to tell me that lol

Edit: ... figured it out! 🙂

"A mustard-cooked beef patty with additional pickles, cheese, spread and grilled onions diced up and mixed together on the grill before getting dumped on your burger. This is probably the most famous secret menu item, and for good reason: it's pure awesome on a bun. You can get any burger done Animal Style."

mmmmm 🙂

Animal style is not something that can be described...it's just a freakin awesome experience in your mouth hahaha

hey guys want wish everyone who has interview tomorrow the best luck. I remember a year ago i was in ur shoes. Be calm and collective tomorrow. have some nice breakfast and just relax and breath. I'll see those of you going tomorrow. I'll be your tour guide 🙂

come on guys, it's midnight on the east coast. i should not be thinking of french fries at this hour.
😛

anyway. is it a huge pain to fly to LAX and not Ontario? I am having a huge flight booking headache because i had had a trip to san fran planned for president's day weekend and i got confirmed for an interview in the beginning of the week now... (i'm coming from DC..) and my boyfriend is in san diego, so i just changed the first leg of my dc-to-SF flight to SD-to-SF instead (woo! i successfully argued my way into not incurring the $75 change fee *win*) but i have no DC-to-Western flight at the moment... any advice/wisdom would be appreciated!
