Who got interviews already and where??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From what I've heard Penn interviews both instate and out-of-state at the same time. I would imagine that if you had to confirm an interview in a certain amount of time and you didn't that they would contact you. I know that OSU calls if they haven't received confirmation in two days. I can't imagine that they wouldn't follow-up if they didn't get a response. They ended up having to send me a second postcard to return (even though the first one ended up coming two weeks after it was postmarked!) Of course I don't know this for sure, but I'm hoping as I also won't be able to check my mail until the 29th.

My friend from IL just got a Penn interview for Jan 12

hey, literally dying in CA. hoping holiday mail & distance are keeping notification at bay...NOT rejections!

Congrats to those with interviews! 🙂

Just a reminder about the interview feedback...those of us still waiting to hear or just starting out in the application process do appreciate your help!

Jan 5th Ohio State w00t!! =)

Texas A&M January 16th! I'm so excited! My neighbors now think I'm crazy. It was my 4th time at the mailbox today and I saw the letter and opened it at the mailbox saw it was an interview invite and went screaming down the street. And then of course I called everyone that I know.

So are these just the first batch of Penn interviews or...

Yes, I believe these are just the first 30 interviews. From my understanding they send out interview invitations in batches of 30 as they only interview on Fridays. Also, their interviews are dependent on whether your interested in small animal or large animal as they interview those separately. So don't worry if you haven't received anything yet (that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)

Aha...so I hear that they accept people almost right after the interview, even though there might be many more interviews to go...do you think they call in the most qualified applicants first?

I know OSU and I believe Penn does interview the most "qualified" applicants first. Yes, I have also been told that Penn calls that evening or the next day to tell you whether or not you were admitted. I guess you can't even relax for a little after your interview!

I haven't heard anything either. Just to share a little more angst, there have been threads here before propagating the rumor of a Penn/Davis antagonism, which I will now continue with absolutely no evidence whatsoever: If you applied in-state to Davis, and Penn thinks you have a good chance of getting in there, they reject you. The assumption being I guess that you'd definitely go in-state if you could, and them accepting you and you declining makes their numbers worse.

Thing is, I'm originally from the Philly area, and in a lot of ways Penn is more "home" than Davis would be, so if I had to choose between the two it would *not* be a snap decision. I hope they noticed that most of my life has been spent in NJ/PA/DE and I've even been a Penn employee, and don't throw me in the automatic-reject pile. Wonder if it's worth sending them a letter to that effect... 🙂

Heh... Then again, if I *do* get an invite from Penn I guess it might mean they don't think I have a shot at getting in to Davis... Agh... 🙄

I wouldn't overthink it, it'll just make you crazy. Since you said there's no evidence, don't even worry about it. There are so many parts and little nuances in the admissions process that you never know what could get you in and what could hurt you. Even if that rumor is true, it's probably just a minor consideration.

I was just wondering why it would be different between Penn/Davis? Might they not assume then if anyone got into their state school they would rather go there? I know that Davis accepts very few out of staters, but so do many others so I was just wondering if there was more to this theory to explain why it would be Davis specifically.

I have no basis for this, but I do think that Davis probably has the highest reputation of pure state schools (ie, not UPenn, Cornell, or Tufts). When I talk to vets, Davis consistently stands out as being really top class. I don't know if that's accurate - Colorado State, NCSU, and Wisconsin all come to mind as being comparable - but maybe Davis' strong reputation has antagonized Penn's academic focus?

Just a thought.

On a different note, I think of UPenn as being "part" state and "part" private, in that they have a considerable portion of the class for out-of-staters. Is that accurate, do you think?

Penn is definately all private, tuition is crazy high for in state and almost half of the class is out of state. If it wasn't such a great school, it would really suck to be from Pa.

No, its pretty random with some bias for in state residents at the beginning of the interviews. Also, the first couple Fridays were SA people, I believe my interview was the 1st LA day and that was mid-February.

Jan 5th Ohio State w00t!! =)

That will be a fantastic time to be at OSU considering the national championship game is the following Monday 😉

I don't get why it would be Penn/Davis in particular (other than as mentioned, Davis takes mostly instate folks)....but I do think this happens to a degree with schools that are close to each other (namely Purdue and OSU). I guess they just assume you are applying because it's close to where you currently live. I've known some Ohio people with really great applications that didn't even get interviews at Purdue. I'm sure it happens elsewhere. Again no "evidence" but decent grounds for speculation.

Wow, it seems that there are quite a lot of us interviewing at Penn on the 12th. I counted 4 who posted here, and someone said that they interview batches of 30, so that's a sizable amount. Anyway... not that it means anything, just thought I'd note.

Best of luck to everyone, and see some of you there on the 12th 🙂

Well who would even know if they got an interview these days...post office closed yesterday, closed today, closed tomorrow...

Did you guys find out through snail mail? Also, are you small animal or large animal? And when did you find out?
Thanks!

Snail mail December 22. I'm in-state, small animal. Good luck! 🙂

I'm interviewing at Penn on the 19th!! Received the snail mail today.

When did you hear from LSU?? Was is email or snail mail? I am hoping to hear from them too, Good luck to you :luck:

LSU sent me an email this morning but they only interview LA and AR residents so if you're not one of those you probably won't hear anything until decision time. Good luck!

hahaha thanks ShelterGirl

Thanks!! I am a LA resident... I was hoping we would hear before AR, but that's ok... I just hope to hear soon before I pull all my hair out with nervousness!!! 😀

OMG! Did your online status change?? Was it a big letter/small letter?? When I emailed Patty earlier in the week, she said notices would go out in the next two weeks, good or bad news.

Holy cow, CONGRATULATIONS, and I *really* hope to see you there!!

Thanks for the heads-up. Now I won't burst into tears at the sight of a small envelope, but I'm sure I'll cry anyways 😀

Congratulations to you too & I hope to see you there! Now how long does it take for a small letter to reach CA from MA???

my dad (who works at the post office and thus i consider him an expert) said 2-3 days, probably 3.

Totally did not expect an answer about how long I should expect to wait😀 but at least I shouldn't panic about it not being here yet. It stinks to know that it may not arrive before the holiday, so I'll have to wait even longer. ICK!!

Catcrazy, what state are you in??
