Why did Finch/Chicago Med change its name to Rosaline Franklin?

I hate it when institutions change their name. It kind of shows instability to me. Like the way MCP and Hahnemann became Allegheny and then that became MCP Hahnemann and now Drexel. I don't have a problem with UCLA adding in Geffen or USC adding in Keck to the name but the name of the institution stayed the same.

Well who was Finch? Chicago Med use to be just Chicago Med then they added Finch later on. If I were him and I donated a large sum of money, I would sue the University.

Rosalind Franklin got screwed out of the Nobel Prize for her work in elucidating the structure of DNA. This happened because she happened to be deceased at the time Watson, Crick, and Maurice Wilkins were alive and awarded the prize.

The least that someone could do was to name a medical school after her.

well other people have been screwed out of Nobel Prizes as well. Some recent ones that come to mind are Raymond Damadian for the development of MRI and Paul Chu in high temperature superconductivity. Should we name schools after them as well?

The reason MCP Hahnman changed its name was due to financial problems with the company that was controlling both the school and the hospital system. When that company went under there was a period of instability and financial turmoil. Now that the school has become part of a Ugrad institution it should stabilize and the new name will be there for a while.

I think the reason that Finch changed its name is because Finch has not had a good reputation in the recent years (whether they deserve this reputation or not). The name change is an attempt to give the school a fresh start. Sort of like Multiple Personality Disorder is now called Dissosiative Identity Disorder because MPD has so much stigma attached to it.

For the ultra-rich, there are still schools available to be named after you. For example, URochester, NYU, MSSM, Vandy, UPitt, etc. I personally would love to see NYU Pekq school of medicine (bogus long name like Weill).

It wasnt money. Finch just wanted a name change. They paid Franklins heirs 10 bucks and received the money right back as a donation.

Not sure, but I don't think MSSM's name is up for sale. After all the money Annenberg donated to everything related to Mount Sinai, you'd think he'd already have his name attached to the school.

Finch should have changed its name to the University of California Midwest Branch since I heard about half of their people are from Califronia.
