Is this a school that firmly doesn't take significant update letters pre-II?? Super bummed if that's the case b/c I had 2 second-author pubs get accepted for publication halfway through this cycle rip. I figured that would make up for my low stats and give me some shot at getting an interview oof.

If it makes you feel better, I also had a publication occur that wasn't on my primary app that I couldn't tell them about (I have similar LM score as you) and I got an II 2 weeks ago! I think there is still time 🙂

It does! Just praying at this point. Congrats!!

You've got this! Wishing you the best possible outcome for your cycle <3
Thanks fr! My MD cycle’s been a wash unfortunately, so it felt a little bit disheartening to see schools j rejecting me left and right. The one interview I had turned to a WL and that was honestly my best shot 🙁

I really am still happy overall though bc I got acceptances at DO schools!! I’m equally manifesting Ws for you. I know you’ll be a great doc <3

+1 OOS II earlier today!

I see that the meet and greet is optional on the day prior to the interview. Is it truly optional? I am unavailable during that time and wondering if I should move things around to attend the session.
its optional, no one present is part of the admissions committee. good luck on the interview!!

Did anyone receive “we enjoyed meeting you” email after interview?

Thanks for letting me know! Were you by chance given a "app complete" email before the II invite? I submitted my 2* a long time ago and still haven't gotten the "app complete" email, just the one where they received the 2*.

OOS II +1, genuinely thought I was a well done steak at this point.... Tips for preparing?
It feels low stakes and casual, just practice the MMI format because it kinda threw me for a loop as my first MMI. The questions are pretty standard though!

Hmm that's interesting, I got both "Supplementary Application Confirmation" and "Application File is Complete" emails...

I'd prob shoot an email about this if I were u

Gotcha! It probably means I’m getting rejected tho lmao.

Honestly, that just means you should follow up with the admin office. This has happened to me and I got accepted to that school. Also, logically there's no reason for a school to send app complete emails only to applicants who they want to accept. It just means they received all parts of your application so it's important to follow up and clarify if you don't get that email.

It's been a hot minute, but I'm a current M3 at RFU. Free for questions.

I saw one question about if classes prepare you well for Step 1. I'd say yes and even more so for y'all. Ever since COVID, CMS has changed a lot of their leadership, and I think for the good. They've totally re-adjusted their Multisystems block to basically be a strong Step 1 prep class. And other resources as well.

I definitely feel supported well at RFU. Those who take initiative and hit the ground running do very good here; those who are passive, barely pass their exams consistently, or expect admin to hand them stuff on a silver platter do not do as well. I highly recommend researching the clinical sites throughout Chicagoland when M3 year comes by. If you strategize well for the clinical lottery, you can have a great experience while those who do not research the hospitals and geography of Chicago struggle a bit.

Just got an email about the women in health professions virtual event and I interviewed 3/4. But it's about the different graduate health programs, not specifically MD

Does anyone know when the last interviews are? Still hopeful!
they sent me an invite last week, and last tuesday 3/4 and tomorrow 3/11 were the only available days to sign up. however i believe that last year they were still interviewing into april so i wouldnt be surprised if they were just not showing me all of the days that they planned to make available

Did anyone who interviewed the first week of February hear back yet? I really enjoyed my interview day and like the school so I’m really hoping for an acceptance!!

Would love to hear more about the clinical sites lottery and what you mean by strategizing!

Question for people that interviewed: Are the MMI interviews group interviews, or are you just going through all the stations yourself?

Main room is everyone together, but every time you go into an MMI station it is just you

That's so helpful, thank you! Also, are you expected to ask/answer questions in the main room? Or is it just a presentation providing more info about the school?

Sure. As many know, RFU/CMS does not have a primary teaching hospital, for better or for worse. I think we can deduce some of the qualms of not having a primary teaching hospital; the pro's are a.) you get a more diverse clinical experience at different sites, and b.) you can get experience on different EHRs.
In the middle of 2nd year, there is a lottery for M3 clerkships. The first round you rank your preferred clerkship order (e.g. IM first, next FM, etc.). The second round you rank the sites for each of your clerkships.
What I recommend before then is to make a list of all the RFU clerkship sites that you see on the RFU webpage and Wikipedia. For each site, look at where it is located on Google Earth and Wikipedia them (if that's a verb lol). Which ones are level I trauma centers, comprehensive stroke, ECMO, or cardiac surgery centers- important for EM, IM, and surgery. Which ones have a dedicated pediatric hospital (e.g. Christ, Lutheran, and sorta County lol). Which ones are located in the city vs. the suburbs. I think the worst thing one can do when they get to the lottery is rank them randomly and not consider travel times vs where you move to live M3 year; sure does stink living downtown but doing a rotation at the FHCC VA or living on northern end and having to commute to Christ. Finally, consider your specialties of interest. If you love surgery, then you really should do your surgical clerkship at a surgery-friendly site (Masonic, LGH, Christ, or County). If it's peds, you want to do it somewhere with a peds residency like LGH or Christ. That's what I mean by strategize.

You can ask questions if you want to, but during the down time between each MMI station, we were just hanging out with other people in the main room and Dr. Ellison was asking ice breaker questions like your hobbies etc. After the interview, it was basically information session from RFU, you have alot of opportunities to ask questions.

Questions but most are silly/fun

You get put into a breakout room with a prompt that you have a minute or two to read and take notes. Then you answer the question for a single interviewer (faculty, staff, or student). It will only be you and the interviewer in the breakout room. After the time is up, you go back into the main room for a minute or two with Dr. Ellison and all the other students that are interviewing. In that large breakout room, Dr. Ellison will be asking individual students lighthearted questions (i.e. what you do for fun or what is your favorite food). This is the process as you cycle between mmi stations and the main room. It is lots of fun, actually. There is not really time for you to ask questions then, but there will be plenty of time in other segments of the interview day. It is an enjoyable experience!
