I've been lurking on this board for weeks, and finally signed up 🙂

I want to eventually get into Purdue's DVM program. I currently live in CT, but hubby and I plan to move to Indiana to be closer to family. I've been looking through this forum, and see few to no applicants for Purdue's Vet program, and I don't understand why! I know it's a tough school to get into, but much higher than say UGA or Colorado. Is there a reason why so few on here want to consider Purdue? Is it something I'm missing?

Animal nutrition and communication requirements are the biggest deal breakers for me. It looks like a really cool program though.

The class size is tiny, and I can't decide if that's a good or bad thing. Anyone else have thoughts on that?

For me, I don't know anything about Indiana.
I know my Grandpa went to Notre Dame. and that its very cold. My mom was born there....I think thats about it.

It just doesn't appeal to me as a place to live for the next 4-ish years. I also didn't apply to many other schools for the same reason.

I'm applying to Purdue 🙂

I applied, but have a general prejudice against Indiana State schools.

Why? Because I grew up in Indiana, and recieved BETTER financial assitance in grants, scholarships, etc to attend private, expensive out of state universities than I did any of the in state schools I applied to. So much so that the COA and tuition to attend OOS at much better schools was less than half of what I would have to pay instate. However, my cousins, who barely made it through highschool, received full scholarships to play sports and attend school with LOTS of support like tutors, paid meal plans, laundry services, etc.

So, pretty annoyed that it was more difficult for me to live in state and attend a state school instate than to go elsewhere...and hte state wonders why there are problems with top students leaving.

Then Purdue would not tell me why, despite being above all the averages for requirements to the vet school, I wasn't even offered an interview. The most detailed explanation I could get was a mass produced letter with the stats, despite repeated efforts. They aren't ranked very high, and I would have (due to family status) still been eligible for IS status. I would have loved to attend Purdue, since it is the vet school I grew up with and worked with a lot through 4-H and FFA, but at this point, I doubt I would even be willing to live in Indiana and pay taxes because I feel their educational policies regarding financial assistance for higher education to students who are strong academicly is horrible, espeically when compared to students who are weak academicly but strong athleticly.

Why no love for A&M?

Oh, right...TMDSAS. 😀

Why no love for Michigan State? And the reason I'm not applying to Purdue is fairly simple...I wouldn't get it.

i really wanted to apply to michigan state, but i was 1 class away from their % prereq complete prior to deadline. i'll apply there next year.

I'm applying to Michigan! I've had a really hard time narrowing down my list to 10, and I keep wanting to add more because they all sound awesome.

I agree with twelvetigers, positive thinking!!! MI is my IS, so it's my #1 obviously. I just added Mississippi State today, so that brings my total up to 5. I would really like to apply to VMRC too, but OOS #'s aren't encouraging.

ok ok 😀 positive thinking. apply to VMRC! SOME out of state are accepted, so why not give it a shot?

The schools that get love have to give some love to us OOSers!

And for the record I did look into Purdue in the initial stages. The only other course I would need would be genetics lab to apply. I just narrowed down my list and the schools with the slightly higher OOS acceptances won out. Damn NJ needs a school...🙄, I'll keep dreamin'.
